so im not the most active user on team liquid in the sense of posting constantly but i do like to browse the forums relatively regularly. every once in forever you i work up to nerve to make a post but ususally im just a watcher but there is one thing that ive noticed almost consistantly. immediately following most OPs, there is usually some kind of troll.
now these come in many shapes and sizes. there is your good old fashioned demeaning troll.
he sticks to the tried and true methods like saying you suck or dont have a life or whatever.
then there is the one liner troll. he'll deal out that sage advice such as..... scout....or.....macro. is it true? well yeah but does it help....NO!
you have the troll troll.....this guy is the crusader of the weak and destroyer of any unwise enough to incure his wrath. he sees some troll being stupid and instead of leaving it to the mods, decides that it is his divine destiny to put that punk in his place. well-meaning, probably. the only problem is that the back and forth bm fest that ensues totally destroys the post and may even get it closed.
my personal favorite is the random other game troll. this special breed of idoit pops into a starcraft site full of starcraft players just to say: "starcraft sucks go play halo" normally this only gets a temp ban or such, which i would say is too lenient for being that brainless but i guess someone needs to be merciful.
there is a sub category of troll that exists. they are called the search tool troll. whenever a question arises that they deem to cliche they bm about how the poster is dumb and needs to quit wasting everyone's time and search. they are kind of the elitist of the forum world. now dont get me wrong, if someone is asking a question like need help with what is a good mech build or something that is easily searchable, then by all means use the search. but most of the time these posts are made asking for help with specific replays and cant be answered by someone elses post. i personally dont see the reason why someone took the time to say they dont have to time to answer a question. now i should add that some are a little more clever saying they are putting up the answer in the form of a link to the search page. this one always makes me laugh... :D
there are lots of other troll types, the ones that question your ladder standing, the insta-tech switch troll, etc etc. this could just go on and on from me. but im done raging on trollers for the time being. now you guys get to join in the fun. are there any special trolls that you guys love to hate or hate to love?....do you have any special instances that are funny?

Trolls are the vigilantes of the internet. Some fight for good. Some fight for evil. Most are questionable.
The weak and simple ones are banned off young.
The best make pretty good mods, come to think of it.

trolls? no.
being stupid or annoying isn't trolling.
trolling is deliberately being an asshole in order to get a rise out of people.
all the types of posters you mentioned genuinely think they are helping in some way.

There are no such things as "trolls" and your referring to good honest people as "trolls" indicates a certain intolerance toward differing viewpoints. This troubles me.
People are uniformly and universally honest and genuine on the internet. I think you should just learn to be more accepting of these different viewpoints and love your fellow man.

come on there has to be at least one good troll story...i mean hot bid doesnt count...everyone knows he's slightly trollish....but at least he's funny when he does it...:D

Embrace the internet, and learn to back off a step. Besides, by today's standards (if there are any...), it's really hard to tell whether you're being trolled or not. Sometimes others will tell you that you're trolling although you didn't mean to. At other times trolls will countertroll another troll and as you said, derailment ensues.
In all cases, unless you're really involved in the discussion/debate, just have a laugh and move on.
TL staff/mods usually do a good job keeping this place sane but fun.

I prefer the notion that the TL mods have only left the masterful, subtle--yet effective trolls left standing. I think you're overreacting.

I don't really notice any trolls around on TL. There may be some, but mostly stupid posts that get cleaned up by admins. But for the most part I haven't spotted a good genuine troll anywhere around team liquid.
Or maybe I haven't been browsing around enough.

to be honest, when i was writing this i was looking for some specific examples and could only find like 1. but i had a memory of a bunch of these type. and once the creative juices start flowing you cant stop them....even if there is a giant lack of evidence....:D....i was having too much fun writing it
