being stupid or annoying isn't trolling.
trolling is deliberately being an asshole in order to get a rise out of people.
all the types of posters you mentioned genuinely think they are helping in some way.

There are no such things as "trolls" and your referring to good honest people as "trolls" indicates a certain intolerance toward differing viewpoints. This troubles me.
People are uniformly and universally honest and genuine on the internet. I think you should just learn to be more accepting of these different viewpoints and love your fellow man.

Embrace the internet, and learn to back off a step. Besides, by today's standards (if there are any...), it's really hard to tell whether you're being trolled or not. Sometimes others will tell you that you're trolling although you didn't mean to. At other times trolls will countertroll another troll and as you said, derailment ensues.
In all cases, unless you're really involved in the discussion/debate, just have a laugh and move on.
TL staff/mods usually do a good job keeping this place sane but fun.

I prefer the notion that the TL mods have only left the masterful, subtle--yet effective trolls left standing. I think you're overreacting.

Hahaha man you're so funny.
I don't really notice any trolls around on TL. There may be some, but mostly stupid posts that get cleaned up by admins. But for the most part I haven't spotted a good genuine troll anywhere around team liquid.
Or maybe I haven't been browsing around enough.

to be honest, when i was writing this i was looking for some specific examples and could only find like 1. but i had a memory of a bunch of these type. and once the creative juices start flowing you cant stop them....even if there is a giant lack of evidence....:D....i was having too much fun writing it

If it's not okay to say that white people are stronger and more mineral efficient than black people, why is it okay to say the same thing about Zerg or Protoss?

there is a sub category of troll that exists. they are called the search tool troll. whenever a question arises that they deem to cliche they bm about how the poster is dumb and needs to quit wasting everyone's time and search. they are kind of the elitist of the forum world.
