Hey all,

Yesterday I recieved my Razer mouse bungee and Abyssus mouse. I figured I'd write a small review about my findings. Here's the products:

The Razer Mouse Bungee

I've wanted one of these for a long time. It is supposed to eliminate all mouse drag, but I was quite disappointed with it. My main finding was this:

It does NOT eliminate mouse drag, it rather distributes it across your mouse movement.

When you move the mouse towards yourself, you will feel the drag of the bungee bending down. When you move the mouse away from yourself, you will feel the drag of the cord pressing up against the end of the bungee.

The good part about this is that you can exactly control the mouse drag by positioning the mouse bungee in a specific way. I have my bungee set up in a way that I do not feel any drag when clicking the minimap (needs to be very precise) and have some downward drag in the top right corner.
Normal mousing without a bungee usually causes drag in an unexpected way, which is why the mouse bungee is useful. I can imagine this tool being especially useful when playing at some place other than your own home, where you cannot setup your trusted method of taping it to a specific spot on your table or whatever.

A plus about this product is that it sticks to the table like glue. It will never move around no matter what you do with your mouse. So that's something you won't have to worry about.

All in all, I am disappointed that it does not completely eliminates mouse drag as advertised, but it is still a useful tool.

+ Provides control over mouse drag
+ Grips to the table perfectly
+ Great design
- Does not completely eliminate mouse drag

The Razer Abyssus mouse

I've only used this mouse for one day now, so I can't really comment on it too much. First impression is positive though.

The first thing I noticed was how LIGHT it was. Compared to my last mouse, the Razer Deathadder, it just moves so easily across my mouse mat.

The mouse buttons are also great. They require little force to press and they sound great.

I'm not yet used to the shape of the mouse. It is quite small, which is great, but since I'm used to a much larger mouse I now need to figure out where exactly to place my fingers to control the mouse optimally. Especially my ring finger feels like it has no place to rest. This is something I will need to get used to.

A minus about this mouse is that it gets dirty easily. Every bit of sweat / grease is visible on the rubber grip, and the glossy black sides attract finger prints like mad.

One more point, the blue LED logo remains lit when I turn off my computer, which is really annoying. I emailed Razer tech support on how to fix this, I'll hopefully hear from them soon.

Those are just first impressions. I am happy with it so far and I think it will serve me well.

+ Light weight
+ Small
+ Mouse buttons easy to click
- Gets dirty
- LED light that won't turn off

Conclusion

That's it for the review. I'm looking forward to getting used to my gear gaming gear, I think the mouse and bungee will serve me well.

Bonus points if you can recognise my mouse mat

Regards,
-Khenra

I'm kinda noobish about things like this, so bear with with me. What exactly is mouse drag? I don't notice any resistance when I move my mouse up or down (I have a Razer Deathadder, braided cord, btw). I'm not opposed to getting a bungee if it will make my mouse handling feel better (I was astonished by how much better my gaming mouse feels than a standard mouse when I got it), but I'm trying to figure out exactly what it does.

As for your mouse light not turning off, I don't know for sure, but I would guess it has something to do with the way your computer distributes power through its USB ports. Maybe your setup will continue to distribute power even though it's turned "off" (a lot of electronic devices don't actually completely power down when you turn them off). My Deathadder does go off when I turn off my machine, so I doubt it's the mouse itself.

I managed to disable the light for my Razer Imperator in the driver settings. Have you checked those?

Anyways, I somehow never had a problem with mouse drag as i always make sure the cable is in a good position and has enough length to move freely in all directions, though i can see how the mouse bungee might in some circumstances provide a better feel. Nice review there, eventhough it's still not convincing me to spend the money :p

The base is made out of one piece. Then there's the springs coming out of the base which are bendable. And then there's the top piece attached to the end of the springs. You can't disassemble the pieces, it comes as a whole. You can fit it in a bag by bending the springs slightly towards the base. That's the way it comes in the packaging as well.

Mouse drag is the resistance of the mouse cord dragging across the table as you move your mouse. The most obvious example is when your mouse cord is hanging off the end of your desk. It will be slightly harder to move your mouse towards yourself as the weight of the mouse cord is slightly pulling the mouse upwards.

Most people solve this by taping their cord to their desk, which helps with the upwards tugging but creates other problems.

It is a confirmed problem with the Abyssus. I just couldn't find a solution except for opening my mouse and disconnecting the LED all together. I also don't want to mess around in my BIOS power options if I don't absolutely have to.

The Abyssus driver has no setting for the light, unfortunately. And I'm not trying to convince you to buy a mouse bungee, just reviewing it so people can make up their own mind.

i actually got Roccat's Apuri mouse bungee instead, it has 4 USB ports =D

you can buy Razer abyssus Mirror edition, which is pretty slick too.. you won't dirty it easily, but you will tend to leave finger prints behind, which isn't a problem imo.

edit: and yes, i don't think there are any settings that you can turn off the LED light.. i'm curious what razer has to suggest lol.. keep us updated!

It sounds like if you leave more slack in the cord that extends from the bungee you won't feel any drag when moving the mouse toward you and very minimal/none when moving it away from you. This is how I use mine. As far as I'm concerned the "bungee" portion is just a gimmick, and all it's really doing is holding some slack in the cord while keeping it up off the desk.

you can turn off the lights and turn off mouse acceleration if you download the latest drivers from the razer site. it has other options to customize your mouse as well.

How would you rate the abyssus+bungee vs your old deathadder? Got a deathadder atm meself and imo the mouse cord is so thin and light there's rarely any noticeable drag.

I'd be very interested to hear a comparison between abyssus and DA (if you have the time)

Razer mice so so sexy. Even though I already have one myself I drool every time I see one in the stores ...(@_@)...

I have a razer naga special molten edition (in other words, it has a different colour)

I initially bought this when I was a big WoW player and didn't play SC2 at all. Had I been into SC2 I would of probably got a spectre ^_^ I hear they're good.

The abyssus mouse cord is so freaking long. Is your computer located in the next room or something? I don't get how you can't have any slack in the cord.

Also another bug - the mouse wheel setting resets itself to 30lines (!) every scroll everytime you restart your computer

Really bad drivers.

That's a great tip, I will definitely try that. Thanks!

I downloaded the latest drivers (v2.01), but alas no option to turn off the blue light. Are you sure you are talking about the Abyssus? If so, I would really appreciate a link to the driver you are talking about.

They're two very different mice. I have the Deathadder Black Edition, by the way. Quick comparison:

- Abyssus is noticably smaller (check razer store for exact dimensions)
- Abyssus is WAY lighter.
- Deathadder Black Edition has a different material on the buttons. Smoother. It doesn't get as dirty as the Abyssus. I prefer the Deathadder grip.
- Abyssus has no side buttons
- Click feels about the same
- Deathadder has a braided cord, Abyssus doesn't.

On the Deathadder you will notice less drag simply because it is much heavier. You use more force to move it, so the tiny drag is not as noticable. On the Abyssus I notice more drag.

You should install the v2.00 driver instead. It does not have the scroll setting bug. It is not available through the Razer site, but you can find it through Google.

I just got a reaction from the Razer tech support. This is what they wrote:
"This is most likely a computer hardware issue with your ports or Motherboard. Please contact the manufacturer for updates for your USB ports and BIOS. Also try using different USB ports you may have."

Alright, time to check my BIOS..

Well, I found out how turn off the blue light on my Abyssus while my computer is turned off.

It involves switching a jumper on your motherboard to make sure your USB ports are unpowered when your computer is turned off. I found the solution here:
http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/795311

Get the manual for your motherboard and check the 'jumpers' section. There should be a jumper for your USB ports. Switch the jumper (from 5VSB to 5V) and voila! No more blue night light when you're trying to sleep.

Is the Bungee Heavy?
Older bungee models had a large steel ball in it so it is heavy and doesn't move around
when the mouse moves around

Does this Bungee have sufficient weight by itself ?
so it doesn't move around when you move the mouse???

This is what I'm wondering about right now and is currently preventing me from buying one
because from the pictures the bungee looks really light and flimsy?

It is not heavy at all, but there's a material on the bottom that makes it stick to the table like glue. As the bottom gets dusty it will get less sticky, but you can just wash off the dust with some water and it will stick again.

Really, it will not move around when moving your mouse. No matter how hard you pull. It even requires some force to take off the table by hand.

So if this is what you're concerned about, go ahead and buy it!
