Analogies.

ALL analogies are flawed. In fact ALL analogies are bad. Analogies are only reasonable when used to explain things that would otherwise be beyond the readers' comprehension. When Stephen Hawking talks about wormholes or relativity concepts in front of a casual audience, he uses analogies so that his audience would get some vague (though probably fundamentally incorrect) idea about what's going on. It's basically a way to dumb things down.

When you're a random person arguing against other random people in forum about something neither of you are experts in, don't make analogies. When you're talking about really simple, understandable concepts, don't make analogies. It's not only straight up pointless and wrong, it's also condescending.

To be honest if someone can't make a point without making an analogy, he probably doesn't even have one. An analogy isn't a proof that what someone says is right - yet this is exactly what most analogies are attempted for. People actually believe that if they make a seemingly strong enough analogy (though this is only ever the case on a very superficial level) that their point is proven by default, which is just ridiculous.

Now without knowing the context of the example in OP, from experience I can think of a number of points that most commonly reference the analogy about people believing Earth is flat and pretty much all of those points are straight up wrong (just like the analogy itself is).

I agree with this one the most. Ive never had any respect for people who complain about bm in a public game. I blame ICCUP with their "report bm" bullshit for this trend. They give soft-skinned pussies an excuse to become attention-whores.

I can understand moderating a forum because its usually a place to acquire information hence there needs to be some form of etiquette in order to create value. That is to say, it fosters an environment where reliable information can be found by weeding out irrelevant stuff like troll posts, flaming, flamebait etc. which would otherwise devalue the content of the forum.

But if you get pissed because some random guy in a 1v1 whom you will never meet irl, called you a faggot because you 4 pooled him then you deserved to be ridiculed and taunted for being a pussy.
