Well said. And nice 9000th post
Edit: wtf? 9000 posts in less than a year? O.o

Maybe the comments aren't meant for you but more as a show of respect to the deceased, their friends & family. I'm sure that if I posted one of those for a friend or family member, the support would be helpful, even if it's from random stangers.

A lot of people who know the person who died personally might find it comforting. Its not like there's much to discuss on an internet forum if the death was uncontroversial...

I think family members of recently deceased have something better to do then browse random internet forums lurking for people spamming RIP. I mean, it's understandable if there is some relation between the deceased and TL, but if it comes to like public figures, it only dilutes the actual information in a thread.
Do you really think Amy Winehouses family reads these forums? I'm cool and all with someone stating why he/she ment so much to him and why he/she is sad that person died, but page upon page of RIP is just flat out annoying. Especially because its the most generic form of 'support' you can show and it seems like most just do it to bolster their postcount.

Actually, I prefer when people use proper vocabulary when talking about Starcraft. For example, "cheese", and "all-in", have pretty established meanings, and it dilutes and weakens the meaning of the words when they are constantly misused. I don't know about you, but I enjoy having a set of vocabulary which can be easily used to describe what's happening in the game, as opposed to having to describe in detail the meanings that should be encompassed in that word. In the end, I guess it depends on if you view the vocabulary informally, or as a technical language. For example, if you entered a discussion where the majority of people were misusing the words "velocity" and "speed", it doesn't suddenly change the meaning of the words, it just makes the people misusing them seem ignorant and misinformed.

Solution to most of your problems -> Read Brood War section. All the cool guys are here

People using the word troll.
"Oh it's just some trolls, ignore them."
Just because someone disagrees with you doesn't mean they're a troll! Don't try to sweep all the naysayers under the rug by dismissing them as trolls. It's insulting to the actual ones who work VERY hard to get banned!

To be honest, the only thread that popped to my mind when I read the post was the Cyx thread... I guess we both have valid points.

lol I decided to do a quick search of "earth flat" to see what I come up with. These are all very recent, and were in 3 separate threads.

But again as long as he is not claiming the sun is made out of cheese and the sky is red I'd give him a theater to prove his theories. Sorry, but you're a moron. People knew the world was round, that's how sailors could navigate long distances on a sphere. The plotting between a flat plane and a sphere over long distances of water is significant. Then again, why am I bothering with someone who's simply using the argument from ignorance logical fallacy, obviously you're too far gone to bother with.

Aristotle was the first to put forward sound arguments to why the world was round. Due to ellipses of the moon and whatnot. He still thought earth was the center of the universe.Ptolemy created a cosmological model for this in the second century A.D. Only in the 15th century did someone have the balls enough to propose the sun was the center which the earth rotated around. Copernicus. Yes, there have been lots of philosophers/scientists who have understood the world as round, however, the MAJORITY, being ignorant and having no education, always believed the world was flat and feared falling off the edge of it KwarK, really......

The point where a thread suddenly somehow turns into a debate over religion and atheism.
Unfortunately, some threads actually start this way.

I always understood it to mean a show of respect for the dead to your peers and the people around you. There's no real good way, on a forum, to express your unfamiliar sadness to people around you. It's like when a famous musician dies and you reminisce with your friends face-to-face about specific shows, events, or skills they had. Imagine "RIP" is the short-handed way of doing that.

You're pretty much ignoring the fact that there are people in this world and on this site that will post something specificly to provoke a certain kind of response, just for kicks.

Agreed on some. "Ruining ESPORTS" or any common joke is fine if it's clever or the timing is right though.
This one to some degree is unavoidable in LR threads, but I still feel it could be minimized with common sense: Suppose someone asks a question that's answer is widely known (or made a glaring error), then like 50 people quote and reply to the same post with the same answer/correction. I think there is a time-frame after which it warrants a quick F5 check or you can safely assume someone already got it.
On a related note, the urge to rush off and correct/throw facts out is so strong that people are correcting people that actually agreed with them, or stating facts that are technically true but useless to the point being discussed. (I guess this is similar to what you were saying )

I am sick of people thinking that the only Esport in the world is SC2.(they instantly dismiss Dota, LoL and Halo as such).

You want to know what annoys me? Of course you don't. I don't want to know what annoys you either. That's why there's a letting off steam thread. But I guess it's your blog and I'll gtfo.

I feel like this blog title would be better off as, "Why I will never be your friend."

I agree with most of what you said, but I still think people spamming certain words around here need to be punished. Some grounds are holy and unworthy beings are to be kept far far away.

"hurting ESPORTS" is totally still funny.
