But before I go into my progress, I want to talk a little about my SCII games today to give some words of motivation to a few frustrated players. I'm a platinum somewhat-mediocre-at-best Protoss who needs a lot of work on all MU's.
Here are my stats for the games I played today so far:
Games played: 5(all Zergs)
Opponent Builds: 1 who went 2base mass ling/bling into roach/hydra, and 4 who went roach/ling all-in
Games won/lost: 1/4
This was an extremely frustrating start to my day because I know exactly why I lost. It's not that the cheese are OP, but it's because I didn't do a few crucial things that led to my losses: I didn't scout very well, I got greedy(I went 1gate expo for 3 of the games I lost, 3gate expo for 1), and I didn't keep my eye on the mini-map.
So with a sense of what I needed to do, I played one more game(again, against a Zerg). He tried to roach/ling all-in me, but this time I was ready, with better WG and 3gate timings, and I pushed him away easily. I went on to expo, macro-ed like a madman, and I eventually just rolled over him with a scary 3/3/1 army composed of stalkers, sentries, templars full of storms, and a few collosi.
So for those of you in the same boat I was, don't worry; just keep your calm, scout, keep an eye on the mini-map, and macro. You can defend these things by doing just these basic skills that build the foundation of a good player.
If you want to play a few games, just let me know and I'll edit in my username/character code in this post!
Now to attempt to segue into the main subject...
Progress of my Goals
Goal of College GPA
I can't really do much about this one, but I"m doing what I can by reading more books and novels to hone and focus my mind, and improve my reading level. I like reading both entertainment and philosophical/psychological books, so I got into a habit of checking out one entertainment and one philosophical/psychological novel. Currently I'm reading Shockwave by Clive Cussler(Dirk Pitt series), and I have Steppenwolf by Hermann Hesse checked out.
I picked out the Hesse novel from a list of books/novels that my AP English Literature teacher put together for the class. There are some really, really good books on the list. If you want suggestions from me or want the list itself, just comment below!
Ultimate Frisbee
The progress I've made in this goal makes me smile. I've been going to the gym and lifting 3 times/week(emphasis on squats in a 5x5 routine), I've been doing track-workouts to improve my endurance, quickness and athleticism, and I've been playing a good number of games. My throws are good but they still need work.
As a relatively fast guy who's only 5'10/11, I need to work on laying out to extend my range. Since I'm not very tall compared to other higher-level players, my favorite role as a defensive handler requires me to play good defense; good defense consists of sticking on my man, having a great mark, and the occasional lay-out d's. I need to work even harder to make A team.
Overall, I'm proud of what I've accomplished so far.
Internet Marketing/Money-Making
This is, by far, the hardest goal to make progress in so far. I've been doing some research on what I can do with blogs, and I've gained a lot of facts and information about some useful tools on the Internet. However, it's hard for me to put them into practice; I need to be LESS LAZY, and I need to act on my thoughts using the new-found knowledge I gained.
For the last week, I've been playing around with social media marketing. Social media includes websites like Facebook, Twitter, Myspace(who the hell uses Myspace now anyways?), and many other websites that aren't as popular.
If you've ever tried blogging and trying to get more viewers, social media websites are one of the most important ways to market/spread word about your blog. You write your blog, make a status/post about your new blog post onto your social media websites, and wait for people to read your blog. Easy enough concept, right?
However, it's an understatement to say the familiar phrase "easier said than done", because it's EXTREMELY hard to actually make money this way. You need more than just those 3 social media websites when you start from scratch; if you have more than one blog you're trying to market, multiply the number of posts/status you need to make for one blog by the number of blogs/websites you have, and imagine how much time you waste making posts/statuses.
With those problems in mind, I found two useful tools that can make posts/statuses all at once on all of your different social media websites: Ping.fm, and HootSuite.com. I have accounts on both of these right now, and I will go into more detail about this and some blogging techniques since this post is already way too long.
So Happy Monday, and good luck on all of your dreams and wishes! Never give up!
