Just got back and boy have I been waiting for this weekend to happen for awhile now!
From the moment I saw that tickets were only going to be $25.00 I knew this weekend was going to be awesome! Seeing Starcraft 2 on the main stage and having amazing casters cast the games was great( and especially having your friends there as well) how do Huksy, Mr. Bitter, Day9 and djWHEAT do it so well!!??
Everything went smoothly on the production side from what I could tell some minor lag on the first day but that is something quickly forgotten and fixed. The players were easily approachable, even the koreans! Pictures could be easily taken and conversations with random people were common occurrences and games were not in short supply, EVER!
The people who we were around(the fans) were straight up baller nerds who proved why Starcraft 2 has an awesome community. I mean during every match you could feel the emotion during every single match. Something important gets killed ooooo's went out through the crowd a big battle goes in favor of a player cheers would go out.
Now the ONE thing I must say that could be fixed is the seating. Everyday at least 30-40% of the crowd did not have a seat and had to stand. It is not an end all be all but after standing for three days straight ALL day it can be kind of rough. But again, this is easily forgotten.
All the games were fantastic even though most went 2-0. The finals were a blast as well NO SPOILERS HERE! Hearing that the stream shattered records from Columbus in terms of people who were watching AND the number of people who clicked on hopefully can mean more sponsorship money for the future.
In conclusion a big thank you to all the guys at MLG, the players and the fellow nerds for making this weekend a great time.
And of course a never ending supply of Dr. Pepper made it all the more sweeter
yeah, the biggest problem was that there weren't enough seats... :/ My feet were dying day 2 and 3. I swear, it's hell standing through an hour long game, especially boxer vs mma.
Spent the whole weekend chilling with the FXO crew (SloG is fucking awesome, Sup son!) and team dignitas + kiwikaki. Was super chill, got to go to the IPL prolounge and had a great time overall.
I agree seating was rough but you never can have enough chairs at these events, it's inevitable, I just wish the security wasn't as mean to people who just wanted to sit behind stages 1 and 2 to watch. Or at least be consistent about it (they were letting people sit on stages 1 and 2 for halo to watch their final but wouldn't let us sit on sc2's stages 1 and 2 to watch our semis).
Oh and big shoutout to Dignitas Odee. he was fucking awesome the whole weekend! And Choya is a fucking awesomely hilarious person with the best Thor impression ever.
Thanks for the writeups! Has MLG released anything about those numbers? That's pretty awesome if there were that many viewers for SC2, maybe we can actually reach Sundance's goal ^_^
May I know if it was just the mic arrangement or was the crowd less lively than the Columbus one. From the stream, it seemed the reaction was quite lackluster considering BoxeR was there and the #1 plz moment and him throwing the t-shirt to the crowd should have made an explosion.
Okay, how enthusiastic was the crowd in person? Judging from the streams, it sounded like the crowd was weaker compared to the last MLG and NASL. The only time I heard cheering was when MMA or BoxeR was playing (didn't watch that many matches)...
I'm still in Nerdawe after getting home. I saw some many awesome people, Fans and Pros. Got to tell QXC he is a total baller. IT WAS SO MUCH FUN!

This (for me at least) was because there was other noises going on from Halo and COD, and announcements were going on at random. It was so awesome to hear the casters live, but it wasn't like having my head phones on with 100% attention in the game and listening. Then again I was standing in the back
Amazing weekend. I just got back into San Diego. I agree with the seating. We had to get there early every morning just to snag seats, and then it was almost like you were glued to them, because the moment you got up there were people on the prowl for seats. Other than the seating, which I already knew would be a problem, it was an amazing event, and I'm so happy I went. The crowd was insane all weekend, especially when Jinro dropped that nuke.

The crowd did seem pretty unenthusiastic from the stream, and it was also disappointing how many people left right after final and before the awards ceremony.
I new to SC2 and it was my first esport event and I thought Anaheim was incredible. The crowd was massive and excited but did not really achieve its full potential in decibels. Despite there being so many people there the event felt intimate.
The lack of chairs was a little frustrating and I feel like the crowd would have had a lot more energy if enough chairs had been provided and a little more filler was given in between series.
Saturday night White-Ra on the mainstage was not particularly special gameplay-wise but the storyline and passion of the crowd was epic
The viewers were somewhere between 100k-150k, I think Day9 said he would unbutton one of his button on his shirts for every 50k viewers. Also I am pretty sure that the number 100k was thrown out on saturday but it could be higher for today's games.
If I am wrong please correct me
Edit:
I would like to add another note
The camera's/pictures don't do the crowd enough justice. During Boxer vs Rain the crowd went very VERY far back to the point you couldn't really capture it with the camera's they had on the crowd.
The crowd was amazingly loud, audible from OUTSIDE the venue when boxer was winning or making key plays (people I was with were taking smoke breaks).
I dunno what the stream did to dull it out, but I do know that if the stream noise comes specifically from only the MICS of the casters, than there's a reason it was so quiet, as day9 and wheat were in a completely separate area from the stage floor (as evident by day9 coming out of a side entrance when he said he'd come out for autographs)

HELL NO, we were cheering for every little thing and we loved it. I talked to a few guys from Columbus and they said Anaheim was much louder and enthusiastic.
MLG had a lot of space to work with so I am pretty sure that they had the casters on another floor away from the crowd itself.
Having flown in Australia the day before the tournament started, and only being able to go to day two in person because I was pretty much ditching the friend I was staying with to be there, I have to say, it exceeded every expectation!
I wasn't sure about what it would be like going alone, but as has already been said, everyone was as friendly as can be! Random conversations would just begin while you were standing shoulder-to-shoulder with fellow nerds watching games, and the pros were also very chatty and cool. In fact, surprisingly so. At one point I saw Jinro standing near the schedule screens, and was signing autographs and posing for pictures with starstruck fans. I walked back about half an hour later and he was still standing there, and remained for a lot longer, I'm sure. There were many similar situations to this. I can imagine it wouldn't be easy to stand around chatting to fans in between stressful games, so big props to everyone. It really made my day.
DAT NUKE. I happened to be standing next to ImbaTV's McDuff at the time (who I didn't know anything about because I'm a big noob), and we got chatting at various points during the day. I do believe that nuke made us mates, however! Unbelievable. When we asked Jinro whether he could hear the crowd cheering through the soundproof booths when that bad boy landed, he admitted he could hear it. So I guess that also answers the question about whether the crowd was enthusiastic or not!
I honestly didn't mind standing - I came up the sides of the stages and felt closer to the action, however my feet are absolutely killing me, even after one day! Can't imagine how much pain some of the people are in who were there for the full three are in. No-one's fault though. The message here is get in early and get yourself a seat for the day, or wear better shoes (note: Converse, while baller, are not supportive shoes).
Free Dr Pepper. I think I had about 8 of these during the day. Will let you know if I get diabetes. The only problem here was that the size of the bathrooms was in no way relative to the amount of free Dr Pepper being handed out! It was rare to get into the bathroom with less than 5-10 people lining up, which was annoying, but a necessary evil, I guess!
Thanks to the organisers, players and fans! If you met a big, excited, wide-eyed, Australian noob running around on a sugar high at some point on day two, it was probably me.
one thing that I wish they would of done was just give more space in between each aisle. When having to get out of the rows you had to literally climb over people. It was a real pain in the ass, it seemed like an obvious thing considering when you entered the venue there was so much extra flooroom where you could just push it back a bit.

And also, add more chairs :D
It sounds like those 2 things contradict each other. Adding more chairs would make even less space.
There's probably some fire hazard code they had to follow as well.

I think I remember reading a tweet on the first day in which Sundance said they had reached the fire-safe limit for chairs.
first mlg ever attended 100% will be back for the next one in anaheim
only thing i can complain about is the lack of chairs... standing all day was really tiring and security even made us stand while watching the nonstreamed featured games :\
The really annoying thing was that security made people who brought chairs in pack them up and put them back in the car. For day 3 me and my friends brought in 3 lawn chairs and sat for 1 match and then security threw us out -_-. MLG should really make a bigger effort to make sure there's sufficient seating, they should have put halo/cod in a different exhibition hall or SOMETHING if there really is a fire safety hazard.
Also, watching players in the open bracket was really not as easy as it should have been, it would be much nicer if the open bracket computers were arranged in individual rows so no matter where the person sits you can at least stand behind them and watch.
If the seating issue is fixed I might attend Raleigh, otherwise its just waaaay too difficult to go so far to sit on concrete/stand for a full day. The energy of the live event was awesome and it really doesn't translate well into the online streaming experience but I do value my legs/ass.
I'm pretty sure the open bracket players wouldn't want people hovering over them while playing their matches.
I think Anaheim was a great event, except for the subpar seating. Even then, I would not have minded it as much if people were allowed to sit on the concrete during day 2 and day 3.

The difficulty was more that players seated on the inside with their monitors facing away were near impossible to watch. There could still be a divider behind the players giving them a decent amount of space like there was at Anaheim while affording the spectators a decent view if it was arranged differently.
It was really awesome being able to watch the pros play up close. It definitely gave me a new perspective on how ridiculously good some of them are.
LIke a bunch of people said, not enough chairs! The venue had more than enough space to fit everyone, but there just weren't enough chairs people could sit on. The security wouldn't even let us use chairs from the consoles (where players had finished for the night).
If the game on the main stage was broadcast on several smaller monitors it would also help.
But beside the seating issue the event was amazing! I'm definitely going to attend another mlg in the future (possibly as a player even though I would get scraped)
wow, still a seating problem. kinda sucks, but i guess that means they'll just have to get a bigger hall for the next mlg? in a way it's a good problem to have.

yeah, i would've liked something like that at columbus.
Some back story: apparently there is a section of seating in the crowd reserved for players, media, team reps, etc. A redditor's cousin won access to this area through some contest. Upon returning from a bathroom break/whatever they noticed a bald guy sitting in their seats. This bald guy was Sundance. Without knowing, they had asked Sundance to move and he happily obliged, without making it known who he was.
The next time that they get up they decide to leave some personal effects on their seat as a way of indicating that the seat was occupied. I'm told by people that attended MLG that this was fairly common practice. Xeris, when noticing two unoccupied seats, takes it upon himself to displace the items on the seat. When told the purpose of the items he was throwing onto the floor and that those seats were being held for winners of a contest Xeris had this to say, "I won these too ... through hard work."
Really Xeris?
MLG management: respectful members of the community, awesome event all around. NASL management: will throw your shit on the ground.
i went the first day and got to sit pretty far in the front, sitting behind incontrol and his gf. it was fun but the games were SUPER short because of korean domination (it was like 20 minutes of games and 45 minutes of waiting.) The background music after games were super loud (like you're at a club). It would've been nice to have some peace and quiet, but we didn't want to lose our seats lol.
i didn't bother going day 2 or 3 because it was REALLY crowded, and we knew there was no chance of getting seats unless you go super early in the morning. If we had to stand far in the back, there gets a point where it's actually hard to watch the games because the projector was far away.
i got to see mma and mvp play up close when they weren't playing on the main stage though, so that was really cool. how often do you get to see a top korean's fpvod? (besides byun streaming or something). they play so quick but efficient, its amazing
bleachers would've been awesome or something along those lines. sucks for the people who have to stand behind people who are 6'5'' and/or 300 pounds lol

Lol. I sat behind incontrol on day one too! Were you the guy in brown? I was the one in green lol.
I was sitting next to Incontrol during day one. In the row ahead of me was the Blizzard crew (Morhaime, Browder, et al). It took me a while to realize that they were special seats but somehow I managed to sit in the front three rows all three days (although I have up my seat to some players on the second day when they were sitting on the floor)
The sound setup could've been better as it seemed like they had only one set of speakers in the front center. I wish they had set up two sets of speakers on both sides pointing in to drown out the Halo and CoD casts from the sides.
All that aside MLG was sweet and if you haven't gone before you should definitely head out to one when there's one happening near you!

really douche move by xeris. someone over at fnatic should have a word with the idiot about behaviour in public to not embarass urself or the organisation paying ur checks since his parental units failed obviously.

If this is truth Sundance's attitude is the reason MLG success and Xeris (we need his side of the story) is the reason NASL isn't doing so well, they doesn't understand customers and how to run the business.

NASL is doing fine, technical bumps were the main reasons they lost some interest. The fact that it's drawn out in a season means they won't be hitting maximum viewers every day but will receive spikes when fan favourites are playing.
Attitude honestly has nothing to do with NASL "failing" or MLG being a success. The reason it's a success is because hardwork is put in and they do a good job on the technical scene.

While it is important to hear what Xeris has to say, there were several witnesses to the event that he moved the stuff off the chairs and then made some comments about how he deserved to sit there.

Sounds like the streams used a mic that blocked out a lot of ambient noise. That was a big mistake and I hope they fix that for next MLG. We stream viewers want to hear the crowd!
Also it would be nice if you have crowd interviews during breaks like the ones that Lindsey Sporrer was doing for NASL.
In all honesty, there's not much to do apart from an apology for Xeris to make this better. What really annoys me is that people are starting to build such huge egos over starcraft.
Its not clear in the video that was posted, but Boxer so happy when that gg came. He ripped of his headphones and threw them away in sheer joy. It really was amazing.

I think I'm the only one that walked slightly further into the Hilton to use their super nice, completely EMPTY bathrooms with 8 perfectly clean stalls and a ton of urinals compared to the TWO shitty stalls and TWO urinals at the event. There was no way I was waiting in line when Hilton was around a 3 minute walk (took less time to even go there since no line).
Also, to all the seating complaints, I heard they knwe there would be more but are limited to a certain amount of seats for safety reasons/firehazard/etc. Although they should just pack Halo/CoD into a corner or side somewhere and move the 100 total spectators that showed up for those two events combined and used their stages to feature SC2!

Some back story: apparently there is a section of seating in the crowd reserved for players, media, team reps, etc. A redditor's cousin won access to this area through some contest. Upon returning from a bathroom break/whatever they noticed a bald guy sitting in their seats. This bald guy was Sundance. Without knowing, they had asked Sundance to move and he happily obliged, without making it known who he was.

The saddest part is i'm not even surprised. Of all the possible people, I could have guessed it would be him. You only have to see his posts on here for a few months to see the type of person he is. Makes me sad, really does.

This is really disappointing. Integrity and manners are really important to me as a consumer, and if this is true then I will distance myself from anything Xeris is involved with(NASL and fnaticMSI).

Are you thinking of Raelcun?
Also, I am waiting pensively for some more info on this Xeris stuff. Seems like the kind of entitlement that needs to be stomped out as quickly as it shows up among the people gaining some fame from this.
Haha Xeris, what a joke. Huge ego for no reason... he's a manager! I remember Fnatic ran out of players to play in the EG Master's Cup and had to play Xeris against CatZ. CatZ basically messed around with Xeris the entire game until he finally decided to win.
Is Xeris the guy who had a part in the most embarrassingly horrible SC2 tournament yet? He must be lying about the "hard work" since it was quite clear that no one put any sort of "hard work" into NASL.
That is a really dick move to pull. I wish the guy who was sitting their would have made a big deal about it, people that act like this will only stop when someone calls them out for it. Thank god that redditor witnessed what happened and shared it with us as the guy who was sitting there was to polite to even say it was xeris. What a dick.

There was literally only two guys in the Reddit thread who can back up the story of Xeris kicking him out. Only one guy heard "Yeah, we won these seats too... through hard work." The other guy said nothing other than Xeris kicked them out. For some reason, I think there is another side to the story.
Seriously, Xeris has been a community contributor since the days of BW. You can bash NASL all you want (because it definitely did have its problem), but you cannot say that NASL did not do a good thing for e-sports (though I've actually seen some people with bigger self-entitlement issues actually say so) and you cannot say the Xeris did a big part in advancing that. Xeris has brought us Fnatic.MSI with his hard work as well. It is two random reddit posters vs Xeris. I think I'm going to give Xeris the benefit of the doubt.
I guess he is too stupid, or too absorbed in the warped version of reality he resides in where he is important, to realize that without people like the ones he stole seats from he would be even more worthless than he already is.

Thanks to the organisers, players and fans! If you met a big, excited, wide-eyed, Australian noob running around on a sugar high at some point on day two, it was probably me.
Uh there was a bathroom outside the hall that had only two stalls / two urinals, but the one inside had like 40 stalls (I think they took over the women's room for us?). Even after big games there was never a huge wait. Did you not see the bathroom inside? It was on the middle of the wall on the Halo side.
Also, having watched the stream and then gone there in person - their crowd mic was not on or something. It was VERY loud in person, incredibly exciting to be amongst.
No one should be surprised at Xeris's actions. Anyone who reads any of his posts can see the arrogance in them. The funny thing is most people wouldn't be able to pick him out of a lineup, nor name any of the things he's done in e-sports that he thinks should make him so entitled. He is by no means some pillar of the community like a Day9.

i didn't bother going day 2 or 3 because it was REALLY crowded, and we knew there was no chance of getting seats unless you go super early in the morning.
Sundance is a cool guy and gotta give props to him for running MLG so smoothly. Yeah, MLG had some rocky events, but they've been improving each time.
I thought the NASL playoffs was better than Anaheim really (aside from Day 1). WAY more chairs, 3 screens, clear sound that could be heard at any angle. Always autograph signings between games. Of course MLG has 2 other stages that could interfere with the sound for SC2 so I can't blame them TOO much... MLG also had much more lopsided matches (maybe due to inserting Koreans into the NA kiddy pool ). NASL's playoff format is easy to follow. MLG feels like a bit of a mess. Of course NASL inserted a bunch of players into the playoffs which had many Koreans participate which gave us more interesting games. Going back to the format, since MLG is a bit rushed (huge open bracket and lots of group play) they can't have the big macro maps cause they take too long. This means we get a lot of the smaller maps, 1 push 1 kill type of games. Also, Xeris is a dick, but this is bad journalism you should've gotten Xeris' side of the story before posting that.
Just as there are a ton of nice people who used to kill esports by restreaming GSL season 1, some can be a total asshole and still be a great contributor to the community.
I too was at MLG, great great event. Biggest problem ever:lack of seats. I know Sundance did have more seats this time, than in Columbus, but the fact is, more people were standing than sitting for the majority of MLG. This has definitely got to change! Also, extremely disliked how there was only 1 stream at the event, they should've had 2 streams up. Also I wished they could've spared a big TV just for results, I found it fairly difficult to keep up with a lot of the results of all the games. Another improvement would be actually showing the casters on stage, similar to NASL. It could've sorta been set up sort of like late night talk shows, in which the interview couch is angled slightly at the desk (the commentating desk). I also felt that having to wait 2hours just to register into the convention center was pretty ridiculously stupid, and felt that the "gold member" thing was sort of a nickel and diming tactic. Just charge us more straight up, don't make another tier called "gold".
On the positive, amazing games, liked how their were 2 screens set up showing where the matches were being played, and when.

Xeris having an ego is a joke... and his girl friend thinking she is E-Famous because she is with him... ( -_- ) no comment. Incontrol's gf is the only one in the community making waves as far as i know... anyways Xeris showing exactly why no one seems to like him. Also no surprised we are not hearing his side of the story.. because there is nothing to tell plenty of witnesses to justify what happened.

He's just the manager of Fnatic.MSI. They would be here with or without him. And he's been like this for a long time. If you've been around awhile you'd know that.
The old BW commentator GGRise posted about him too.
"I met xeris IRL at WCG US finals that I was supposed to cast in NYC. I can confirm: he is a dick. I was standing watching either idra or machine playing and he literally walked and stood right in front of me - as in my shirt was touching his. I tapped him on the shoulder and asked him "excuse me, is there a reason you stepped right in front of me?" to which he replied "I felt like it" so I told him to "get out of my fucking way before I make you get out of my fucking way." eg.colbi was standing next to me and said "dude, this is motherfucking xeris." I not so calmly replied "I don't give a fuck who he is, you don't get in front of someone like that" (other than incontrol maybe, he's a much bigger guy than me) and he got out of the way. If he didn't, I was planning on pushing him over the midget barrier >:D tl;dr yes, xeris is a big douche IRL"

Nobody mentioned that Xeris should get a special treatment, but its ridiculous how many people are bashing Xeris based on a reddit thread where only 2 people seem to be the only ones saying it. No evidence or anything.
From what I see, Xeris has a lot more to lose from this than the other people claiming that they totally saw Xeris doing that.
This is borderline Highschool drama. Of course if proof emerges that it was actually Xeris, then yeah people have all the right to dislike him but so far I think its fair to at least give Xeris the benefit of the doubt

Rofl what do you think this is like Guess the Pokemon? It was Xeris, people know what he looks like
And no, i don't really see why we should have to hear his side. No one has anything to gain by saying "some guy stole my seat for no particular reason" before even knowing who it was whereas Xeris has much to gain from justifying his actions.
Sounds like the streams used a mic that blocked out a lot of ambient noise. That was a big mistake and I hope they fix that for next MLG. We stream viewers want to hear the crowd!
Also it would be nice if you have crowd interviews during breaks like the ones that Lindsey Sporrer was doing for NASL.
yeah the cheering we heard on the stream just appears muffled and unimpressive. NASL actually did a better job with the crowd mics.
Can somebody talk about the ball that was being tossed around the audience during the last day? Was it something planned or just somebody threw a ball and people started flipping it being bored?

Flawed logic? Seriously, he is not saying that people should not give Xeris crap IF he did that, he wants to give him the benefit of the doubt.

And no, i don't really see why we should have to hear his side. No one has anything to gain by saying "some guy stole my seat for no particular reason" before even knowing who it was whereas Xeris has much to gain from justifying his actions.
Well, some people do have something to gain though. Lulz. And it's not unheard of people lying to aquire some.
Still, I believe the story, it sounds genuine and there's at least 5 people confirming it, might be more by now.
And regarding the action itself: disrespectful, distasteful and frankly - fucking stupid. I mean, I'm pretty sure that Fnatic doesn't really like having people on their payroll with this kind of behavior. It gives off a bad image. People have lost jobs for way less.
I hate the wristband so much. Just a stupid idea to take it off. And what are they gonna do if I just cut a orange paper and wrap it around my wrist? Who know?

Plenty of people saw Xeris pull this shit, and frankly, its a disgrace that he acts so entitled like that.

Actually 3 groups saw it happen. The people who lost their seat, and two separate parties who were sitting behind them. Of course there isn't going to be much evidence besides the witnesses around the seating area. I'm not saying he's guilty, but you can't expect the people who lost their seat to go "ok i'm going to get my video camera and film this and post it on reddit as evidence"

There are plenty of good people who have worked very hard for CSL, don't let Xeris ruin your opinion of them it just because he seems to try and grab power wherever he can find it.

That behavior isn't really in the same league as what Xeris supposedly did though.
Wow... No words. Xeris needs to see this so he can give his side of the story.
Looks like he is a pure and simple asshole, if this is true.
"When they returned, Xeris basically explained that he was more important than them, and deserved to be there much more than they did.
They eventually got a MLG staff member, but apparently Xeris was so 'important' that the two contest winners were forced to move. I'm not sure where they ended up.
Me and my friend were discussing how much of a jerk he was (loudly enough so that he could hear us), and he turned to us to say : "I won these seats too... through years of hard work.", and then laughed.
Didn't really know how to respond to that, so I just let it go at that."
I met xeris IRL at WCG US finals that I was supposed to cast in NYC. I can confirm: he is a dick. I was standing watching either idra or machine playing and he literally walked and stood right in front of me - as in my shirt was touching his. I tapped him on the shoulder and asked him "excuse me, is there a reason you stepped right in front of me?" to which he replied "I felt like it" so I told him to "get out of my fucking way before I make you get out of my fucking way."
eg.colbi was standing next to me and said "dude, this is motherfucking xeris." I not so calmly replied "I don't give a fuck who he is, you don't get in front of someone like that" (other than incontrol maybe, he's a much bigger guy than me) and he got out of the way.
If he didn't, I was planning on pushing him over the midget barrier >:D

As to the situation with Xeris, I hope to god there is some other side to the story. I can't imagine how someone can be so ridiculously arrogant, without joking/sarcasm. It doesnt matter how much you've done for the community, it does not entitle you to belittle others.

This is borderline Highschool drama. Of course if proof emerges that it was actually Xeris, then yeah people have all the right to dislike him but so far I think its fair to at least give Xeris the benefit of the doubt
Well actually its more than 2 people. Theres Desmos, HuskyHog, LiquidGaga(topic creator), qetuoadgjlxvn(whose seat got stolen), LazyScout from this very thread.
The LiquidGaga guy already more or less ID him. Now we just need to hear what Xeris has to say about this.
Doesn't seem like there's much he can say. He acted like an asshole, and I doubt an apology is going to make us chance our view of him. The best he can do is try to manner up.
Xeris dick move. I don't even wanna hear his side of the story because I know it's going to be worthless. Reddit has it in a bit more detail for anyone interested.
Xeris: "I'm more important than you... in my head."
I am disappointed in Xeris, I respected him much after the huge NASL topic but after reading the threads on reddit and here I just can't believe it. I hope there is another side to the story :x
I had a blast at MLG! The one thing that really blew me away was how polite everyone was. No matter who you were standing next to you could turn and ask them about the game and get a conversation going. I remember watching MMA take on Moooman (not on the main stage) and Tyler take on a Zerg (didnt catch who it was) there was a huge crowd and it was hard for people in the back to see so everyone up front sat down on the floor so everyone could watch.
Free dr pepper, stride gum, towels ect. I dont think i ever waited to use the bathroom when I went in there was always an open stall and they had people working the bathrooms to keep them clean at all times.
The crowd was always into what was going on. In one of the games Jinro gets an epic Nuke off and the entire place went crazy! I couldnt get the smile off my face that weekend it was just a very awesome and positive atmosphere ill definitely be attending more event in the future if I can.
I understand the situation with the sating with regards to it being a fire hazard if they have too many seats int he venue my only suggestion would be to get more comfortable seats if possible. I got to the even when the doors opened on Saturday to get a good seat but after a couple of hours i decided to stand because the seats were very uncomfortable and very narrow. Its not really a big deal just one thing I noticed that could be improved.

That is some flawed ass logic youve got there Same reasoning leads to the flagrant abuse seen in many communities by the police, its just "random people" vs "upholders of justice."
I've heard xeris has had his head up his ass a few times before this, no surprise here
Flawed logic? Seriously, he is not saying that people should not give Xeris crap IF he did that, he wants to give him the benefit of the doubt.

He's not going to manner up because he's a sociopath. The best you can do is just ignore him, move on, and just accept that some people just don't give a damn about others. That's what the real world is like.
On August 02 2011 08:40 hysterial wrote: Can we not bash Fnatic because of the actions of one person? For the most part Fnatic seems like a pretty manner/solid team.
As to the situation with Xeris, I hope to god there is some other side to the story. I can't imagine how someone can be so ridiculously arrogant, without joking/sarcasm. It doesnt matter how much you've done for the community, it does not entitle you to belittle others.
Fnatic itself has no transgressions here as a whole, and it isn't right to bash their players because of this. However, if this does turn true, then I will distance myself from the team and it's sponsors as long as Xeris is their representative. Thankfully Sen is leaving Fnatic, so I can still root for him and still watch him. I also will not be supporting NASL.
Edit: OMG they had free towels at MLG. My desire to go has been increased 10 fold. I am totally serious.

lol'd at how wrong that is, think before you make an outrageous comment. MLG Dallas was the most horrible SC2 tournament. NASL provided the most entertaining finals of SC2 so far imo.

MLG is more than MLG Dallas, and NASL is more than the final matchup, which has nothing to do with the actual tournament but rather the players who are facing each other.
I was sitting in the third row on the left side of the main stage. Can indeed confirm that xeris stole these seats. Even after the two people got a MLG staff lady to come to the scene and try to get their seats back, xeris and his lady friend refused the move and basically laughed at all 3 of them.

Dallas's failures were not due to lack of hard work from MLG; they were mostly due to lack of internet backbone and infrastructure in Texas.
Sounds to me with this kind of attendance MLG can afford to raise door prices a bit. Just an extra 10$ from each head would make a decent dent I would think. What means it can help go to the prize pools of the event what happens to be lacking for the most part.

i didn't bother going day 2 or 3 because it was REALLY crowded, and we knew there was no chance of getting seats unless you go super early in the morning.
Sundance is a cool guy and gotta give props to him for running MLG so smoothly. Yeah, MLG had some rocky events, but they've been improving each time.
Yeah sundance is awesome, it was almost impossible to get day9's autograph because of how busy he was so I approached sundance randomly and asked if he could get it for me. He said yes and immediately took my mouse pad back to day9, got the autograph and then contacted me on twitter later that night to return the mousepad to me in the hotel lobby. It was so cool that he went so far out of his way to help out a single fan <3. He also gave his pizza to a friend of mine after overhearing how hungry he was and no I'm not kidding about that.

I was in the crowd cheering and yelling, and I checked the streams last night and the mics didn't seem to pick up our chants as well as I thought. But we were LOUD. I'm sure more videos will be released like the one on the first page of this thread of our reactions. Maybe on the stream we did not sound as loud as Columbus, but being there in person I feel like we were at least 5 times as loud. We shook the convention center with our voices.

They throw beach balls around because 1 person manages to sneak it through the security and blows it up mid-game and throws it around. Happens all the time at graduations.
Well I doubt we'll get a response from Xeris, but this is ridiculous. I don't even know what he could say. "Hey man, obviously I was joking." "All the witnesses heard me wrong."? I hope more people see this, so they can see how Xeris acts toward community members.

Although they should just pack Halo/CoD into a corner or side somewhere and move the 100 total spectators that showed up for those two events combined and used their stages to feature SC2!
sorry for late reply, catching up on thread, but you realize at the event, inside, they turned the womens restroom into the mens restroom, and there was like... 50 stalls there right? (on the wall next to the halo feature stages 1 and 2?)

Ahh I see. Its alot of fun watching the audience view in the MLG stream itself. I thought to myself that all these types of self-expression(troll boards, Gracken worm, flipping tables, Emperor T-shirts and EmperorFighting signboard) and fun are rarer in the GSL streams.

There were two beach balls being tossed around randomly, and one of the security guard ladies grabbed it and took it away. The whole crowd boo'd her (really loud), a mix of that and the frustration they were causing for not letting the crowd sit on the floor. So after she was humiliated she joined the fun and threw the ball and we cheered her lol

Lol oh Xeris...not surprising at all. Once a douche always a douche. The only thing surprising is that some (very few) people are actually surprised by this.

Do you not watch GSL, NASL or any other event that doesn't release replays?
And good to hear the crowd was awesome. I knew it just seemed lack luster on the stream because of the set up. I mean the entire crowd gave Boxer and MMA a standing ovation after their series and we could barely hear it.

Gotta mic it up better, while not overdoing it so it blows out peoples speakers. Craig Ferguson does that well on his late night show - He has like <100 people but the laughter sounds much larger because his tech people really mic up the crowd volume without it sounding buzzy or crackly.

GSL and NASL cast every single game that is played.
MLG casts what like, 10% of the games played at the tournament?

This is probably mega-derailed from the thread topic by now, but anyway, that sounds almost exactly like the other accounts of what happened, indicating why Xeris did something uncool.
You can't take seats if they're assigned seating, doesn't matter if there's not even anyone there. Isn't that the point of assigned seating? >_>

i didn't bother going day 2 or 3 because it was REALLY crowded, and we knew there was no chance of getting seats unless you go super early in the morning.
From the stream, I had no idea the crowd cheered that loud when Boxer won. That video is nuts. Live crowds ftw <3
Holy shit that video is amazing. Next time I hope they mic up the crowd. I really can't afford to travel to the states and go see an MLG but at least if I can hear the audience like that I can feel like I'm right in the crowd
I watched the stream and enjoyed it with no hiccups or anything. However, I think if MLG can manage to mic up the crowd (obviously needs to be done right.. I don't know shit about sound teching) it will make the stream MUCH better. I absolutely LOVE hearing crowd reactions - it really didn't seem like the crowd was into it much from the stream apparently because of the set up. The NBA mics up rims... MLG should mic up the crowd! Would be amazing!
Also... does anyone happen to have a video of the crowd reaction when Jinro hit that defensive nuke?
Crowd was so loud at points that when I was playing my games in the open bracket, which is behind all those people you see in the pics, when people screamed it completely drowned out my game.
Xeris's tendencies to do stuff like this was confirmed by Rise in that Reddit thread. I'll no longer be spending any money on any event Xeris is involved with. There are far too many hardworking, deserving tournaments to waste money on a guy who's a dick because he thinks he is internet famous.

hmm i remember evoli from that sixjaxmajor vs SEA thread while back where he completely downplayed the matter and tried to sweep it under the rug instead of offering any sort of apology.
he himself is a huge douche and doesn't seem to consider the community much at all.
both he and xeris seem to share this attitude that they are somehow more important than everyone else.
After Sundance's actions, which seems confirmed, I will not be a cheapass and buy the MLG pass. I was going to buy the NASL pass (got to show gretorp love after all the bashing he recieved) plus I thought it was more games and more worth it then MLG. But MLG head honcho showing class? MLG over NASL easy.
xeris can apologize all he wants but it doesn't matter. he knew exactly what he was doing when he stole those seats. sorry, but you can't do that and then apologize later on. doesn't work like that.

Fixed that for you.
Waiting until the story blew up on the internet two days after the fact and THEN issuing an apology reeks of damage control.
Should have known you were in the wrong there, Xeris.
Anyway, you probably should have been back at NASL headquarters working instead on a tournament format that doesn't suck complete ass.
I was there and the fighting over seats was a bit ugly sometimes. Its understandable that many ppl get irritated because its so hard to stay standing for hours. Everyone wanted a seat and there were many people "saving seats". Other than the seating situation the event was wonderful! and the high demand for seats only shows that Starcraft 2 is growing more and more. Lol, no one cared about Call of Duty or Halo, we were even stealing halo and cod seats since they were never filled.
Regardless of whether or not you find him genuine, hopefully this is a step in the right direction. The reddit police is on to you! Behave at MLG!
Damn that reddit crowd is brutal lol, can't say xeris doesnt deserve it though

Sundance is charismatic and all, but he can't exactly change California law. This happens over at our colleges, as well; where there are plenty of students and room, but not enough seats due to "fire regulations".

Imagine if you're in Xeris's position. You've been busy managing your team, and you just want to sit down to watch the SC2 game on, so you walk to the "players/vip/press" sitting area. Now, being Xeris, you probably know everyone in the SC2 industry. So you walk up, see 2 seats, and sit down. There might of been stuff on it, so you kindly just slowly moved it down onto the floor. Then this guy walks up to you, saying that it is his seat, you've never seen this guy before, so you just say this area is for players/vip/press, UNKNOWINGLY that he won the contest for it, and there is no indication of proof, lack of badge/special spectator wristband of sort. Slightly irritated at the fact a guy you've never seen is claiming thats his seat, all while distractng you from an important game, you quickly replied a retort.
Now this story gets posted from one side of the story, and on a fucking website in which everyone is a bipolar idiot who's threads are more about stupid drama, than actual strategy. (reddit)

Did you even read a word of what has been said so far? It's pretty conclusive that this is not at all how the story went, and according to multiple people there, Xeris was just being a prick about it. He was told before the guy even showed up that the seats were reserved for the contest winner. Thats why he made his snarky "i earned it too" comment. Don't be so quick to crawl up somebody's ass until you know what actually transpired.

You tar absolutely everybody in an entire community 'a bipolar idiot' and think they're the stupid ones? Jesus christ, not only is that prejudice to the extreme but it makes you sound very bigoted. There's some great things that comes out of that community just like TL, and just like TL, there's a load of trash too. Does that mean everybody on here is an idiot too? Because there's a select few that act like it?
And whether he's been busy working or not is completely irrelevant. I have hard busy days at work just like most others, it doesn't mean i can be a complete jackass on my way home or when i get in though. It doesn't give me any sort of sense of entitlement. There's plenty of people you will never have seen at every event, and to just assume because you don't recognise their face that they are not entitled to those seats is stupid. What happens if they are Sundance's family or something like that? Would he just dump all their shit on the floor and take their seat too?
The fact is, he was a jerk, some people have come forward and posted about it (whether it is on here or reddit doesn't really matter, it's the story that matters and just because there's been drama of late doesn't mean we should just overlook people being shitty) and now he's doing damage control and trying to save face.
If it was out of character, maybe you could just put it down to a bad day or something like that. But he's been like it for years and is notorious for rubbing people the wrong way. In BW and in SCII.

Reddit has it right - It's the responsibility of the SC2 community to show each other that being a prick isn't tolerable unless you're Idra.
Couldn't find a dedicated MLG Anaheim viewer feedback thread, so picked this one.
Having viewed both EVO 2k11 and MLG this past weekend, I cannot help but think that MLG can learn a thing or two from the fighting game community.
Coverage of the EVO tournament was amazing, because of the upsets, the lively crowd, the excellent casting, the storylines, the underdogs winning, the favorites faltering, the amazing games, etc.
Why doesn't MLG show the players more? ESPECIALLY right after the game. This way, stories can be told, "with the game," about the people. On the MLG stream, there was too much dead air, too few player interviews, and too little behind-the-scenes-action. (A 2-sentence 'interview' on stage with JP doesn't count. The viewer doesn't get the "story" with that. A grainy picture of the player in the SC2 HUD doesn't count either.)
Who's the underdog? What was the most amazing run through the bracket? Which players have a history/rivalry? How do players experience the matches? Where are the fan favorites? I want to see footage/interviews/items addressing these things.

LOL how'd you do that? Don't they run at the same time?
I think commentators did a good job outlining every player's background and situation. More pre-game and post-game footage that ISN'T the commentators would be nice.
Hey everyone, I'm the guy who won the Dr. Pepper Contest and lost seats to Xeris and I'd like to explain everything really quick.
Basically I won the Dr. Pepper Grand Prize and got a cool Astro gaming bag with a bunch of stuff in it (gift card, Gunnar glasses, etc.). One of the prizes was 2 VIP passes and seats in the front row, however, the Dr. Pepper Spokesman (a very kind fellow named Jay) unfortunately didn't have the passes on his person at the time and my friend and I were very eager to get our seats since SlayerSBoxer was about to play and we're huge fans. He went up and spoke to security and asked them to let us in while he got the badges. My friend and I sit in 2 seats for 3 matches without getting up once until after one match where I decided to go talk to the Jay about the passes while my friend used the restroom. Unfortunately Jay didn't have our passes yet so I went to talk to my little brother and another friend who had to stand since we only got 2 seats. I come back to the front row to find that some dude in a Fnatic jersey and some other fellow are sitting in the seats that my friend and I had left our stuff in with our stuff on the floor. I ask them nicely to move and unfortunately had to talk to security after these guys refused to give our seats back.
Whatever Xeris and his friend said is between myself and them, and does not need to be posted here.Xeris has apologized publicly on reddit and offered my friend and I his VIP tickets to either the next NASL or MLG in response to a post by some other fellow who witnessed the whole scene and I have accepted this apology. Hopefully he follows through with the VIP pass but for now I'm just glad that the team of one of my favorite players (Sen) is not being managed by a tool. Sry about the bad pictures >.< again thank you for the apology Xeris
I can't believe you took that corporate blunder apology seriously. I never seen such a poorly executed apology like that, ever. Oh well he gets to try to save some face and you get some tickets for another mlg. And the world still spins.

Did you end up getting ur passes and ur seats, or were you shit out of luck? If it's the latter then he still kind of fucked you over, tbh.
