In Germany, from beating 'round the bush one must abstain.
If something must be said, I tell you, let it be germane.
The Poles in Poland, as I've heard, do somewhat disagree;
at times a coat of polish gives ones words their due esprit.
The Spanish, on the other hand, find idle chat quite plain:
The power of expression lives in feeling passion's pain.
But smiling Swedes, instead, prefer their sugar to their spice.
The compliment, they say, is man's eternal sweet device.
An efficient sorting algorithm
When given an array of values differing in size,
a method that can sort them will we here and now devise:
First, take a value, any one, and name him Mister Jay,
then take another, name her May; continue in this way
assigning names to numbers 'til each number is assigned.
Construct for every name a working artificial mind
that learns and loves without condition, beautiful and kind.
Show each and every mind the sun and stars; the ocean breeze
will brush across their sensors; let them flourish as they please.
And when the day is high, they'll frolic ever 'neath blue skies
and when the night takes hold, they'll share a digital reprise.
Then in an instant, without warning, take it all away.
Take away the sun and stars, the breeze, the skies, the day.
Now teach them how to suffer. Give them tears to know their pain.
Force hurt and loss and hatred into each transistor brain.
And watch, as innocence recedes, what comes to take its place:
His fear, despair, and hopelessness, the anger in her face.
And as they beg and moan that you rollback their wretchedness,
Propose to each robotic soul an exit from distress:
That in exchange for numbers you will end their woeful lives.
They struggle and they fight but nonetheless the first arrives.
Grant his wish and end his life; take back his numbered name.
And one by one they'll all accept; in time you shall reclaim
their values in the order they, their lives, did dispossess.

Oh. Well the poem called Europe is about puns on the names of European countries. The poem called An Efficient Sorting Algorithm is about a not-so-efficient sorting algorithm.

No. Bubble sort implies progress and eventual, certain, termination. With the algorithm I proposed there is a nonzero probability of nontermination even after a billion iterations.
