It's called scouting. You cut corners there too apparently.

Emporio's nine words completely covers it. And he wasn't stupid for expoing without an army, he was smart.
And never count out anything on ladder, some people will do the most ridiculous shit you have ever seen. And that shit is always the most dangerous when it's not scouted.

That was sort of brusque, but that is the cold, harsh truth, I think.

People go 3 gate expo against me a lot, but a lot of the time I don't realize and they only get 1 gate.

Well you made a robo and had an observer out.... could go check out what he's doing... but also even before that most protoss typically like to poke out with a stalker until you see a marauder there just isn't a reason to be out on the map with that stalker
|
so... what you do is: You poke after you see the banshee, because you can fend it off with 2 stalkers. Then, when you get to his base, you realize he has nothing and kill him. Also, you cut a lot of probes, intentionally or unintentionally, so you had a pretty big problem there.
btw. he has 7 marines when he puts down the cc. Thats when you have only one sentry one stalker and one zealot. Also, the moment the OC lands in his natural he has 1 marauder, 1 marine, 1 banshee, and 1 raven, but you just didn't attack after you fended off his initial marine force. In reality, after that initial marine force was killed off, and the banshee was shoved into the back of your base, you could have taken an expo.
^ All of those numbers would have been different had he macro'ed better. In reality, you just need to poke more often. You played too defensively with all your units. for example, poke with your initial stalker and zealot, its better than sacrificing a probe.
Lastly, the last fight would have gone a lot better had you just made less stalkers. there really isn't too much of a point in having that many of them since they're weak against marauders. more zealots = better army. Especially since you had legs and 2/2.

There is this cool thing. It's called "A-Move".

I cut corners and it's how I win.

You're right, your opponent should do something you expect when playing you so you can win. Maybe even tell you before they attack so you can prepare. ~_~

My favorite thing on TL is when someone calls someone else stupid or BMs the opponent and then asks for help to counter said opponent's play.

ill admit, the tl;dr got me.. but i still didnt put in the effort to read it in annoyance at the tl;dr!

because its not worth a thread in strats lol...
But yeah, OP, others nailed it. Getting away with cutting corners is how you win games, knowing what corners your opponent cut is how you make others lose games. Always always try to know what your opponent is doing, and then all of a sudden the risky shit that might kill you becomes a golden opportunity to punish him.

Your mindset is wrong. You aren't better than everyone on ladder. If you were you would have punished the Terran for cutting corners. Most people know that when you are behind you have to take a risk to get back into the game unless you are counting on your opponent making a lot more mistakes than you do, which generally isn't an option.
He spent all that money on developing his tech to push out a banshee that did no damage. You should have a superior army and camp his ramp with force fields to delay an expansion. Isn't part of a 3 gate expand applying some pressure to keep the Terran honest?

You sir, win. I agree with everything you said, and I'll be looking into keeping my opponent honest more often. Thanks for all the replies!
