So this article is from the Vancouver Canucks website, but I'm not posting it because of anything Canucks or hockey related. Rather, I'm posting it because articles about this have only really been picked up by Northern European newspapers.

From the bottom of this article was this snippet:
The day, in which the Sedins found time to have lunch with Forsberg, was a lot of fun, according to Henrik, but not everything went as planned and newspapers in Sweden are still buzzing.
It rarely rains on the island of Öland – and by rarely I should say that leprechauns ride unicorns more often – and it had never before rained on Crown Princess Victoria’s birthday.
Yes, I said had never rained.
It poured all day and although the show went on as planned, it took a comical turn when the royal family arrived at the ceremony and mistook garbage bags placed on their chairs to keep them dry, as rain gear. Next thing you know King Carl XVI Gustaf is punching holes for his arms and head into a garbage bag. That’s my kind of King.
“It’s been a huge deal in Sweden,” laughed Henrik. “The princes and princesses and everyone were laughing about it, so it was good.”
Not wanting to stand out, Daniel and Henrik followed suit and placed garbage bags over their legs during the ceremony.
When in Rome..or in Sweden I guess.
Now here is the best part. There is a delightful picture.
+ Show Spoiler +Yes, that is the King of Sweden in that garbage bag.
I found this highly entertaining, and since there is such a large Swedish base on TL probably already chuckling about this, I figured we could all chuckle along with them.

Haha that's awesome, I guess practicality is a Swedish trait!
|
I think it's awesome
|
What a trendsetter! I'm hoping to see Sjow, Naniwa and Thorzain in these @ MLG !
|
This is why i love our king.
|
LOL, I'm glad the royalty thought it was funny too. Seeing the king wear that garbage bag is so comical.
|
King of Sweden is now my #1 hero.
|
I did that once in Middle School, only inside instead of when it was raining. Why throw a perfectly good trash bag away, only used to carry a ridiculously large poster, when it can work as stylish wear?
Swedish royalty is ahead of the curve. We will all be wearing trash bags for parties in the future.

That is awesome. It's not just comical, but has a social meaning to it. The king realized everyone is born equal and dies equal, so he wanted to make a statement that even the most important and rich person can lower himself to standards poor people need to endure everyday.
+ Show Spoiler +Probably not but still, pure awesomeness.

It's probably the new IKEA model, "Träshbäg". Although, the whole thing is kinda sad. I still can't comprehend why we still have royal families in the 21st century. They're like a vanity item. On holidays you show them to your friends and that's all they're actually good for...

By far the best part is the part where everyone else puts on trashbags since the king's doing it. that's like, pretty awesome.
This blog post is excellent, and earns 4/5 stars. It's not quite ILK tier, but it's close.

Seems pretty typical. If there is something to keep you dry why not use it.
But I like the king mostly because he's a bit absent-minded and seems so confused all the time.

Surfinbird1: yes, and why do people drink alcohol? I mean, it doesn't solve any problems, it's just fun. I think that anything that is fun should be abolished. I will add it to a list of things to abolish: - History (who needs it? It's all in the past.) - Traditions (why do the same thing twice?) - Cars doing over 70 km/h (why should anyone want to go faster? Think of the risks) - Art, music, books about imaginary things (it is really not good for anything but itself) - Love (why should we leave human replication to the whims of our feelings and hormones?)
The short of it: being human is about "meaningless" stuff, it is all that actually has "meaning". And if people find meaning in royality then I congratulate them.

that is pretty funny It's always nice to see these types of stories instead of the norm right now =/ ty for sharing ^^ I'd never have known otherwise
|
LOL, that's my kind of king!

A wise king is someone who is practical

Don't fashion models do this as well? In fact, some of them even wear the garbage.

Just one more reason why I'd move to Sweden
|
would't call it blunder
would call it genius
it's a huge statement on the type of people they are or on the type of person the king is at least
