Long ago, in an internet far far away...
There was a website I used to visit regularly back in my early teens called Newgrounds. While I suspect most people have heard of - if not visited - Newgrounds, it is a website that is mostly known for it's flash cartoon/game portal and having been created by Tom Fulp, who also behind games such as Castle Crashers and Alien Hominid. What it is less famous for however, is it's Audio Portal.
At the time of writing, there are over 433,000 entries on the audio portal, dating back to February 2003. These are broken down into 37 genre sections, such as - Dubstep, Classical, Ambient, Hip Hop, Rock, Funk, Latin, Voice Acting ect. The main Audio page also features notable tracks and artists, making it easy to find new stuff as well as current high scoring tracks.
But anyway, story time.
Newgrounds has always been one of those websites I go back to once in a while when I'm bored. Sometime around 2008, I decided to check the audio portal to see if there was anything noteworthy to listen to see if I could find anything good to listen to. It was then I discovered Danman87, a then holder of most of the top ranked classical pieces on Newgrounds, turned film composer Denny Schneidemesser.
Ever since, I've been following his career with interest. He recently removed his music from his Newgrounds, so a month or so ago, I decided to see if anyone else had been producing anything else worth listening to. The following is a list of tracks and artists I've found over the past month.
Reasoner - Currently has the most popular Newgrounds audio entry Ticking Away. Mainly produces highly rated Ambient music.
Hamstercake - My new personal favourite classical composer (with some good non-classical stuff) on Newgrounds. Has some notable tracks such as His Final Act and Late Night Flow.
ParagonX9 - One of the oldest Audio portal submitters, with a large back catalog of tracks. Mainly produces DnB and video game tracks. Notable ones include Chaoz Fantasy and Chaoz Airflow.
Bidoof45 - Windy Treasures
Rasmuz - You Broke My Heart Into 8bits
2dpolygon - Destination
Bezo - Penguin Ultimatus
Skullbeatz - Press Pause Part 2
Gedab - Tropical Jam

This is just a small taste of what I've found so far. While there is a lot of less than great music to sort through, I've found a few hours of good music these past few weeks and I'll likely dig up more over time. So until then, happy music hunting!
