I have 3 kids; 2, 4, and 6 years old.. I've attempted to teach the older two SC2 and I'm pretty impressed with how they've done.. The 4 year old is able to build buildings, rally units, and even Shift+sequence buildings.. the 6 year old is able to make armies and attack, but mostly focuses on turtling up with cannons or planetary fortresses (EVERWHERE lol)... The 6 year old is able to beat the computer on Easy and the 4 year old can beat Very Easy with my help..

just wanted to get everyone elses's thoughts on this and if you've had any luck teaching your kids to play

No replays? For shame D:

I'm sure you've seen miniwheats' videos of him learning right?

Playing video games like Starcraft will be very good for you kids. It teaching some very important lessons such as multitasking, decision making skills and good hand to eye coordination. Best of luck to you and your kids, hope to see them in the masters bracket by the time Legacy of the void comes out.

I've been trying to teach my 7 year old brother to play Protoss, and we're not making that much progress. He just isn't able to make workers at all, without me constantly reminding him. bri9and, what were your methods of teaching your 6 year old?

My 2 year old is a little young to actually play, but he likes to watch tournaments with me. I did a blog about it a while back.

My 10yo plays the piano insanely well and I haven't beaten him in chess since he was 8.

If I introduce him to SC2, he will rake in the GSL winnings and pay his own rent (and mine, incidentally).

Ahw so cute =)
I remember playing when I was like 6 years old, my sister was 9 and she taught me, but she learnt by herself and we didn't play online (we didn't even know it was possible) and we weren't any good at all. We would lose against any AI and would not make more than like 10 workers no matter how many time game would last.

Damn, man. That's awesome. Gamers who play Starcraft 2 at that young an age. Give it time and they might be the progamers of tomorrow.

You should update your blog with their progress versus the AI and maybe on ladder. ONE WIN on the ladder will be a great accomplishment! But until then, good luck with your teaching!

Agree with that, as well as posting replays maybe, I'd like to know how far it goes.

My dad taught me to play chess when I was 7 and I think I was able to beat him pretty quickly. I was pretty damn good when I was a kid, only really lost to adults at the chess club. No so anymore.

I'm never teaching my kids to play chess because it would be too humiliating to lose to them, lol. Kids seem to aquire proficiencies very easily if taught at a young age. OP is on the right track to training the next Flash.

I've been trying to teach SC2 to my 7-years old son... but he likes Zerg more, so I can't help him much there, since I play Protoss. Little bugger... ;(

"Cute"?

Am I the only one who thinks teaching children/infants how to play SC poor parenting? The game is rated T for a reason..it's war with gore, blood, and death. I can't even imagine letting my 8 year old sister watch a full game of SC...heck PLAY the game. You can say all you want that it's not that bad and you can reduce violence and that you are teaching kids not to be afraid of this stuff...but when you're teaching your kid how to play online war before he can barely frigging do basic tasks such as writing or reading...you should know that's pretty messed up.

Yeah just a bit, only 1/7th of the age rating.
