Tip #10
Using Drops
Since the start of Starcraft 2 in its beta-days, the game has evolved quite a bit and the game has become more dynamic and macro-based whereas earlier, ie the GSL Season 1, many players won through cheese.
But as the game has evolved, many good players nowadays have started to incorporate dropping more to harass or even doom drop. This goes for all three races. Terrans have always utilised drops with their medivacs, they have to make them anyway so why not use them?
As for Zerg, we have seen the use of the overlord drop more where you will find that zerg players are dropping all sorts of units in their opponents base, roaches hydras banelings lings etc...
For the Protoss, we have yet to see many use their warpprism unit more but one player that does use it a lot would be White-Ra, and he uses them quite a lot to warp in zealots and dts to harass the economy of his opponent, more often then not, he wins because of this.
So. A tip to everyone. Drops are great. You have to analyze a situation in your own game and decide if the opponent is unsuspecting of a drop. Drops won’t always do large amounts of damage, and this next point is very important.
Save every unit, I had another tip of the day talk about this and I see this quite a lot. Someone drops and then leaves everything there to do its damage and die with honour. NO, do not do this, if you can pick your units back up you can always use them more efficiently another time when the opponent may not suspect.
Pitfalls
When dropping make sure you are not dropping a good portion of your army in the enemy base unless you are going for the kill. I have seen many of my opponents drop my base with half their army and I simple go out take out their base and then go back to clean up their drop. You have to make sure when you drop you can protect yourself.
