Alright I got this game about two months ago played with some friends in some custom games then finished the campaign. Well about two weeks of that crap I set out on my epic start of my ladder experience. Started watching multiple streams and really getting into this game. Well I got stuck into Bronze which didnt bother me a month later Silver and yesterday I finnally after about two weeks of straight ladder I got into GOLD. Hell ya got so excited I almost puked right on my new Marauder keyboard. Texted all my friends, took screen shots and had the best victory dance since I graduated. The real question is though how long did it take you guys to get out of leagues when you first started out is a month slow or fast.

Was in bronze for about 2-3 months and silver for about 1-2 months. Currently sitting at rank 1-10ish gold.

It depends on the previous knowledge. After release it took me about 2 month to get from the gold where i started to diamond. For my protoss smurf (i suck as toss) it took the whole last weekend to get from silver to platinum.

The more you play and the more you concentrate on learning, the faster you improve and get up the leagues. There are people who have been bronze since release, but since they are still having fun they don't care.

It's different for everyone, but the most important factor seems to be how much time you invest into learning about the game. If you're watching streams/tournaments, analyzing replays, and thinking about the strengths and weaknesses of different strategies and how to counter them....then you're probably going to go very far. If you're able to jump leagues that quickly, it means you're doing the right things

With about 500 games played in bw I got placed in silver as I had no knowledge of any of the units or BOs. But since I had mechanics I could easily get up to diamond/masters in a few months, maybe 1-2-3 something. I think ranking up from one league to another is really good motivation from a game design perspective, which you are evidence of haha. However I'd say improvement is more linear than like a stair which it looks like with people making hops to higher/lower leagues.

Good luck~ I'm sure you will be in master or grand master league one day if you keep playing that much.

I bought the game about a month ago as well! I started out in platinum and in a few days got to diamond. Since then I've been moving close to top 10 diamond. I've been watching sc2 since it came out and playing bw at D+ though. Above post is quite true, you just have to concentrate and focus on improving during the games as well as outside them if you want to get to the higher leagues.

I had no previous knowledge coming into Starcraft 2 other than some campaign from Starcraft that i used to have on the good ole N64 hehe so it sounds like I'm getting better at least (sweet). My hope for this season is to be in diamond by the time it ends but i barely sneaked out my gold before this one ended so who knows. Also I'm trying to get into the little daily tournaments they have here on Team Liquid which are awesome and really fun but so far all I've been doing is getting Roflstomped by platinum's and diamonds.

I started out in gold and within 2 weeks I was in diamond. I've been in diamond since then. And I bought the game at release. 400+ games played in that time.

I never really tried to improve. Just a casual game now and then. I think I improved so dramatically in the first 2 weeks because I started off not knowing all the units let alone what my opponents buildings meant. Goes to show how far mechanics can get you

Grats on the promotion.

I got promoted from gold on Friday and then again to diamond in 3v3's. I've not played 1v1's for a while. Still gold there so I guess its something I should work on. The climb from decent gold to low plat is p small so if you keep improving you will get there.

I got into gold from the start, but it was a bit too high for me. After loosing a couple of games i got the hang of it and went straight to plat. I have to say i played a lot of 1v1's with a friend of mine who alrdy had the game for a couple of months and i really wanted to beat him fast so i improved a lot in the beginning :p.

edit: congrats on the promotion ofcourse

So far I've won about 180 and so far the only motivation i have right now is to get to masters hehe and maybe win a tourney or two and see where that takes me probably no where but it would be really nice to say I've won something for all the countless hours spent laddering, watching streams, almost every day9 daily on record and a bunch of other peoples casts. It would just be a really nice thing to have some kind of win to put towards all the improvement I've seen in myself through my replays.

Those saying "1-2 months", etc. aren't really helpful to the topic. That's as vague as it gets. Realistically, giving an amount of hours per day would be much more helpful.

Hehe just getting a response was good enough for me. I so far have been about 4 or 5 hours a day for the past couple of weeks really getting hardcore into the game. Actually its more like 10 or 15 of just Starcraft content though with all the casts, replays and streams though with the rest sleep, eat and custom map breaks.

Been in highest league for all time i played... except after first placements which placed me in gold (plat was highest at that time during beta) then i got promoted a few games later. I was C broodwar, so not awesome but not terrible either; it probably counts for something. But i don't think i've improved that much it's really hard to tell.

got placed in my 1st league and promoted in about 50 games. So maybe 2 weeks? However a lot of people are stuck in their divisions for a long long time. Good job on climbing the ladder so quickly ^^

Hehe, played since April 20th and with 180+ games won in Bronze I'm still not playing more than 2 games a week vs Silver-leaguers, a little discouraing but I'm hanging in there! Want to masters play in some day. ^^ Or the future's counterpart, lol.

It feels Like the system isn't acknowledging my skill, though . I think I would do pretty good in Silver-league. Oh, well. I'll just keep laddering.

I'm still in diamond 2v2 >.>
I'm at 42-16 or so and started out at 4-4 in plat (my m8 bombed my 2v2).
I've been playing like 50+ 2v2 past week or so and my moving average mmr is seemingly not within masters yet ((
Don't think I'll get promoted to master 2v2 in s2.

In 1v1 I'm in Master (placed in copper in beta till diamond on the end of beta for a total of 2 months in beta since I took breaks) and since release diamond (highest league) and in master since it was introduced.

I have been taking breaks from time to time which didn't do me good at all Overall I play on average 3-4 games a day and since holidays has started I've been playing 15+.

it took me about 1 to 2 months to get out of bronze but then like a week and a half to get into gold.

Since retail: placed into gold and got into diamond less than a day later. That was a couple days after the game's release. I got promoted to master league the first day it was introduced.
That wasn't any act of God. That was an act of pure human fuckery.
