DexVitalitY’s Starcraft 2 - Tip of the Day #2
Tip #2
As an extension to the first tip I gave about workers and economy. Today I wanted to share something very simple and minute yet can make the biggest difference.
- Pairing Workers to mine at the closest mineral patches.
Normally, many people will simply rally their workers to a mineral patch and allow them to auto-mine. But you can do so much more than that at the beginning of the game since you will have less things to do so why not use your APM?
Try to time is so that the closest mineral patches have two workers on each one, the reason for this is when you an do this properly, you will be able to mine minerals slightly faster that your opponent, at lower levels of play, you may not notice the difference but when you have a building being built a few seconds before your opponent, you can use that to your advantage.
Another reason is... why not? Early game, there are very little things you can do outside of spamming. You will see many pro-gamers such as Liquid`HuK and most players from the Old Generations Starcrafters (oGs) clan do it also, if they do it why don’t you?
You may asking, well I don’t understand why I have to do this Dex. I will have to say that sometimes, it is better to mimic something and just try it out yourself, you do not necessarily need to understand right away, that will come in due time.
DexVitalitY’s Starcraft 2 Tip of the Day #3
Tip #3
Saving Every Unit.
There are many times when I play on the ladder, I find people sort of give up on their units in battle or when they drop. Never do this unless you know for sure they will die, but more often then not, people have the perception and think their units are goners but in actual fact can be saved.
Save even one unit, even if it is a single zergling. This is a small thing but a lot of these small things add up, if you can save a few marines here and there, suddenly you have 10 more in your overall army composition and that can make the biggest of differences.
So always try to keep your units alive, if the battle is unfavorable for you, just retreat, you may lose some of your units but better than losing it all.
DexVitalitY’s Starcraft 2 Tip of the Day #4
Tip #4
Macro or Micro?
The reason why I am saying macro OR micro is because there are still many many players out there who can’t yet handle to do both, for those who are in the high masters or grandmasters, this tip may not be aimed towards you (too pro).
Now, I have some friends who have just started Starcraft 2 not long ago and they love the game, so they watch a lot of replays and VOD’s of super gosu players such as Liquid`HuK, IMMvP, oGsMC, IMNestea etc... and they always notice their sick micro. And so when they play, all they do is focus on their micro in battles and neglect to think about what macro is.
My tip for all players, is to always focus on macro. Day9 will say this also, Macro will help you win games. Most games on the ladder simply comes down to who has the more stuff.
What is Macro?
Macro is being able to build large amounts of units at a time. One pitfall is that sometimes people feel like they need to have 6-7 barracks or gateways off of one base in order to have good macro and that is not true, expanding and planning ahead of how to spend your resources is very important and something to take into account.
My advice is to look carefully at some replays of the progamers and just copy what they do.
