Phasewalker
Prologue
Ten years ago, a vessel of unknown origin was tracked heading towards the Terran home world, Earth. Derelict in nature, all attempts to communicate with it ended in failure. A detachment of marines and various scientists and medical officers were dispatched to intercept the spacecraft, ascertain it's true nature and lend assistance to its crew if possible. Upon closer inspection of the vessel, they noticed that it's design was similar to the Protoss' Carriers. The curious thing about it, however was that it appeared to be created by human hands. The hull was made from metals commonly used by humans, and it's engine ran on Terran technology.
The team entered the ship to a dead silence. The crew appeared to be non-existent, and signs of a firefight were visible on the walls. The team began searching for its missing crew, only to lose all radio contact with Command HQ after a short firefight. The next day, the shipped that brought the group to the ship issued a distress call before retreating back to Earth. When the team had left, it had consisted of twenty soldiers, six scientists and four medical officers. When the ship returned to Earth, however only one marine and a lone medical officer was in it. Within weeks, a virus that had contaminated the marine broke out, spreading rapidly throughout the planet. Within a month, eighty-five percent of Earths population had succumbed to the virus. In an attempt to escape the plague, survivors boarded the vessel that appeared just a couple months earlier. Taking control of the vessel, the survivors plotted a course for the Korpolu Sector and set themselves into stasis for the trip.
Nine years passed and an official investigation was launched into ascertaining why Earth had gone silent, but no answers were found. The vessel, now labeled EBE-01 was tracked as it moved into orbit around the newly reconstructed planet of Mar Sara, and as it crash landed into the outskirts of its new capital. Unfortunately, one of the passengers had been infected with the virus and turned on the rest of the survivors while they were awaking from cryo-sleep. In less than two years, Terran space had been all but overrun with the infected from this new virus. Under the command of President Raynor II, Terran Space had been declared a disaster zone, and all movement in or out of it had been blocked. Ships caught trying to slip through the quarantine zone were destroyed. The Protoss began to aggressively control their boarders as well, shooting at anything that resembled a Terran vessel, hoping that the virus would not spread any further. Terran High Command placed Admiral Yuri Shurkov in charge of cleansing the plagued planets of the infected.
Chapter I
Sirens were blaring throughout the hallways and corridors of the Battlecruiser Yumira. The sound of shuffling papers, hurried feet and frantic voices was almost defining to Yuri as battle stations were called over the loudspeaker. From his captains chair he could see magnificent explosions riddling the landscape of what once used to be Mar Sara, blackening the skies with dust and debris. A chill ran down his spine as he remembered when the infection first hit, but quickly brushed it off. His ship had successfully completed it's mission to rescue President Raynor II and a handful of other political powerhouses. As he began to give the order to leave orbit around Mar Sara, his second-in-command handed him a few sheets of paper which contained orders from Command to destroy certain key Terran technologies left behind on the planets surface; equipment declared too sensitive to fall into Protoss or Zerg hands.
The Admiral thought to himself for a moment before making the call to leave them and bring the President to a secured location. Yuri looked to his communications officer and told him to order the rest of the marines who had been, "volunteered" to stay behind to carry out the secondary objective. Communications Specialist Jackson informed the Admiral that all military units had been overrun, meaning a complete and utter loss of control over the planet. Yuri sighed then started to give the order to jump to warp, but was interrupted by the cries of his Chief Medical Officer, Susan Davis.
"Admiral please wait! We may be able to complete our secondary objective. My brother, he is down there still. He can take care of it for us if you were to send him the coordinates!" She exclaimed, a worried but sincere look on her face.
"I am sorry, Susan but we can't allow that type of information to be looked upon by civilian eyes. I apologize about your brother, but we must leave, now!" The Admiral said with sincerity in his voice.
Davis reached into her pack and pulled out a file, handing it to the Admiral.
"He is no civilian, Sir. He is a specialist in these types of situations. I urge you to use his skills." The Admiral looks through the files.
