I'll start off with the lows and end with the highs.
First off, i've always been a competitive gamer, not in the sense of ever being a contender or a pro but simply as an overall attitude that I take with me. It doesn't matter how much better you are than me, I expect to win and am disappointed if I do not come out with the W. Now in previous games that i've played which include wow, WC3 frozen throne I definitely had this same competitive aura about myself but it was more internal frustration which I kept to myself. SC2 on the other hand, i've put in a lot of time to become a strong player doing things such as refining builds, carefully going over strats and constantly trying to fill in any holes that show up in my gameplay.
On the other hand, something about SC2 has led to a lot of anger which gets thrown at my opponents at the end of games (Many times I will not GG on stream, where as on ladder i've been a bit of a douche towards my opponents). I'm not sure if this has been towards the flaws I personally see in the game right now, such as perceiving the balance to be off or if it's just the heightened sense of competition I have for SC2. For example, I feel like zerg balance is completely sqewed with infestors being too strong and some of the other units a bit too weak. Consequently, if I lose to infestors I rage. Terrible habit that i'm trying to overcome because this anger leads me to tilting very hard. Tilting is my single biggest issue towards taking another step and truely breaking into gm's. Not only is it annoying because of the losses but just simply knowing I shouldn't be screaming at my opponents for shit they don't deserve at all.
On to the highs.
A few weeks back I was invited to the calgary entertainment expo for a showmatch with a fellow calgarian who most of you know as xsixmkengyn. It was an awesome experience given that it was not only my first time at such an event, but also because it was the first time i've ever had the experience of a large crowd for something I feel i'm good at. (I used to play badminton and hockey but aside from tourneys I really was a mid tier player at best, and this only includes alberta). Being in front of hundreds of people and being able to showcase a few of the things i've learnt over the past 10 months was a lot of fun, and while I took home second place in the match and 50$, the experience alone was worth more than the money received.
Lastly, I took home my very first prizepool in a competitive online tourney which is a great result for myself having to go through ONEwbc and colRSVP to get to the finals. I eventually lost to rootddoro in the finals but I felt no shame as his PvP was very good and while I had some great opportunities to take the series to 3-2 or even win (I lost 3-1) my lack of experience at times and ddoro's strong standard play was enough to take me out in the end.
Heres to hopefully a continued success in SC2 and a better attitude towards the game in general.
I will be adding posts as further highs and lows come along.
