I should probably be asking this on a different forum but this is the only one where I have an account.
So basically I started wearing contact lenses in the winter. They were great and I had little irritation, usually forgetting I even had them on. However, around about May, wearing contacts became very irritable. My eyes wouldn't get red but they would constantly feel irritated, so soon I just stopped wearing them and switched back to glasses.
Anyways, recently I tried wearing contacts again and there is still that same annoying feeling. I wear soft lenses, Air Optix breathable and use Optifree as my solution. Some sources online say I might need to change my solution?
Has anyone else had this problem? Contacts great for several months then suddenly intolerable.

do you have seasonal allergies?
|
Yeah I had horrible allergies in May which was another reason why I stopped wearing them. However, they died down a few weeks ago. Maybe I'm still having residual effects?

A couple years ago my contacts started feeling pretty uncomfortable and some friends recommended Clear Care solution which is a bit different from Optifree (I did and still use Optifree). My doctor said that might help and also recommended the Acuvue Oasys contacts. I just switched to those and have been fine ever since.
I don't know if that had anything to do with allergies though. You should probably go and ask your eye doctor.
Edit: I wore my former brand of contacts for a couple years before they started feeling bad.

Sounds like it's probably allergies to be honest. Does it make a difference if you wear your glasses, if not then it would be for sure.

Well when I wear my glasses I don't have any problems. I also tried wearing freshly opened contacts so they wouldn't have been exposed to pollen. The moment they went in the annoying feeling came up and I could only wear them for like two hours. Maybe I need to switch contacts or solution.

I switched back to glasses full time after high school. I only wear contacts if I'm playing baseball or something where I actually need really good depth perception. contacts were nice and all but at the end of the day it wasn't worth the random dryness and itchiness. I'm thinkin' of going lasic as well

Ugh that sucks, I strongly dislike wearing glasses . Yeah, I would just go and talk the people at your Optometrists office and see what they have to say.

IF you are looking at monitor a lot, it's no surprise this happens. I had the same thing, sat too much infront of the monitor so my eyes dried and couldn't use contacts. Also allergies might be the problem.
But i'd suggest you to see a professional and hear his opinion. There is plenty of new contacts that breaths better "in your eye" or keeps them moist. and stuff like that.

I wear contacts for more than 10 years now.I`ve had this exact problem and it turned out to be some eye infection, which untreated may last for months. I suggest you go to ophtalmogist (sp?) to check your eyes.

You should also know that there's a huge difference between silicone hydrogel vs regular hydrogel contact lenses.

I used to use Acuvue Oasys and while incredibly comfortable, they started giving me non-infection keratitis, which basically meant there was a bunch of white blood cells in my eyes because they thought there was something in my eye that needed fixing.
Anyway, i switched to regular hydragel contact lenses and all my problems went away. I wake up with completely white eyes, they're never red anymore. The tradeoff, though, is that these contacts are slightly less comfortable.
Just make sure you know that you might be allergic to hydrogel contacts and not silicone hydrogel or vice versa. Good luck.
