I have been in love with the SC2 scene since I got my beta key and discovered TL early last year. I haven't felt the need to post much because I feel most of the time I have little to add to the conversation, but that has changed recently with all of the drama over Geoff leaving SOTG and the circumstances behind that. I, like most of the community, was upset that Geoff was leaving since I loved having him on SOTG, but I knew that he had made this decision and thought it was the best thing for him to do. So I just accepted it and move on. Until earlier this week when the infamous SS of Geoff talking to Sir Scoots popped up and started a drama shit storm in the SOTG thread leading it to be locked. It honestly leads me to ask... why? I understand you are upset that Geoff is leaving and you want to know everything about what happened, but honestly that won't change it and you have no right to know. People live their lives and do what is right for them, it is how the world works. We as a community don't need to know every detail of why things happen. It is a very childish thing in my opinion to go complain on the forums because a business, which these progaming teams are, was doing business. Companies are worried about their own interests just like people are. If being on one show was hurting Geoff's game and not making him any money, why would he stay? Do you think that pros in other sports would co-host a show every week for free? I don't think they would! People have lives to live and other obligations, like Geoff's real job, you know... BEING A PROGAMER! He is focused on HIS JOB like any adult, and the team is focused on their employee doing his job, like any business would. To think that our community is so self absorbed and full of itself that it has to bitch and complain every time someone does what is right for them is ridiculous. We are fans of people playing a video game professionally, that doesn't mean we have to act like children and ask why every time something doesn't go our way. It feels like we are 10-year-olds being told that we can't have candy for dinner, and when our mom says no we look up at her and ask why then pout for the rest of the night. People have to live their lives, just because they are in the public spotlight doesn't mean that they should explain their every action. Geoff announced he couldn't be on SOTG as a host anymore and that is that. Understanding the situation does nothing but make the community look bad. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that it is "hurting e-sports" or anything like that. I just think maybe we should take this as a sign. That maybe as a community we could grow up and stop being upset when things don't go our way.
We have a right to complain when a stream we pay for lags, we have a right to complain when a commercial is 10x louder than the broadcast we are watching, we have a right to complain when we are lied to, but we don't have any right to complain when a player wants to be a player instead of a co-host.
I want to make it clear, I don't think that this will kill our community at all. I just think it could mature and become more about loving the game not about acting like children when things don't go our way.
Again thank you for reading my silly rant, and even though I don't know any of you personally, I still love every single one of you because we are all nerds that play the same amazing game.
