I realize that Starcraft 2 has its completely own competent (well, kinda) ladder system, but I'm surprised something similar to ICCUP hasn't sprung up for it yet. I'm not going to pretend to know how long Broodwar was around before the original ICCUP popped up, but it'd be nice to see something like this happen for SC2.
While Blizzard's ladder is great, there is so much mystery around it that the league your in is relatively worthless. Pro's don't really ladder a whole lot (referencing Naniwa's interviews) because the maps in the pool aren't used for tournaments anyway. So it would be great for the community if there were a system that used current maps that were regularly seen in tournaments. I mean how awesome would it be to play Belshir Beach and have it matter?
I think this would create a more understandable ladder system (because people would know how they move up/move down vs. the current shroud of mystery over Blizzard's system) and we would see pro's joining in. If a pro was, say, an A+ player playing against an A or A- random community member, that would be great for the community!
I'm full aware that blizzard considers the current ICCUP for Broodwar to be a violation, but ultimately, who cares? It worked in Broodwar, no reason for it not to work in SC2. It wouldn't even really need to be hosted on a separate server (therefore being allowed by Blizzard terms) just have a system implemented where you play a game, report it with a replay, and the system updates your ranking. Now a separate server would be nice so that all of this would be automatic, but ultimately not necessary.
...or am I the only one that thinks this : /

Making a reliable server and ladder system for sc2 seems to be a lot more complex then the battle.net servers that are made quite often for brood war....
|
i think this would be a great idea, for instance the SC2BW has a system in place which tracks your winrate and gives pts/removes pts according to such like iCCup
personally if this system went up i would rarely ladder

But that's what I'm saying, it doesn't even really need done. Just a system designed to when a player reports a game as won/lost, it parses the replay attached, confirms the win/lose and adjusts the players points/rank/whatever accordingly. it could use the same parsing system found on many replay sites. After that, adding points to the winner/subtracting from the loser would be relatively simple.

In order to make SC2 work with ICCUP they would need to emulate the BNET2 protocol. There wouldnt be any documentation on this so early. We wont be seeing SC2 on iccup anytime soon.

I wouldn't ever ladder either. I think it would be just a lot more enjoyable.

Hm. That needs a website, but other than that, pretty much what I'm looking for!

should this go up, i would think it would also be a far more accurate indicator of skill than the ladder, there are many good players who i have practiced with who are stuck in lower leagues than they should be skillwise (macro games at least) granted they are bad at holding allins lol...
the iCCup system for ranking is one that i have loved and one that works i would love to be able to go onto their site and see what my winrates are and how many games i have played per matchup, and to have a pts setup i actually count on to be accurate (i feel bonus pool takes a lot away from the accuracy of pts within the blizzard ladder

i didnt see that, that is exactly what im looking for :D:D:D it sounds sick
edit: oops double post...didnt realize i wasnt adding this on as an edit >.>

why do these threads still pop up? you can't make your own battle.net, since the protocol is not open. why do you think blizzard removed LAN? to get rid of such alternate servers so people solely play on battle.net

I think I remember reading that esl started their own ladder for sc2, not sure how it works but I think I read about it on their site.
Got it: http://www.nationalesl.com/us/sc2/1on1/ladder/
HAvent read the rules fully, but it looks like it's based off some matchmaking system too.
Will have a look at the notbl too, looks quite cool even though it isnt totally done yet, and the channel seems to be full of people.

Because people are dissatisfied with the current ladder experience provided by Blizzard.
Im also surprised that no one has created an iCCup equivalent for SC2. Options like NTBL might work out, but having another server ‘feels’ like the best option to me.

Also, if there is a SC2 ICCUP ladder, there are still alot of people will not satisfy with that as well. You cant satisfy everyone

Won' happen. It's been said (at this point) by I think every single admin.

Blizzard would never let that happen, they've made it pretty clear that they want to control everything involving SC2. That being said I would love to play on an ICCUP SC2 ladder so I could actually see my losses and not have to deal with the hidden MMR bullshit.
|
I'd just love to actually know where I stand. In ICCUP, I knew that I needed x more points to make it from c- to c. That really gave you something to work towards. Now, nothing's meaningful- 1st place in a diamond division just means I have the most bonus points of the people that haven't made it to masters.

2 months ago or so, a website named Darer.com put up their own DotA ranking system which is based on their client. On the same website there is also a SC2 section, but it has been "under construction" for a long while. I wonder if they are really trying to crack it somehow, or just use some kind of a replay system...

no that's not the reason, i am talking about the people who still don't know this. if they'd knew what i wrote, they wouldn't ask the same questions again and again eh?
