I need to take a break from Starcraft, im a top 8 random master and have been playing too much and just getting worse.

I bought Minecraft a few days ago, it was really fun figuring everything out and stuff but got boring quick.

I'm not exactly sure what kind of game I want to play. Usually I always play the competitive games where everybody starts at the same level and the better player wins.

I think I want to play an MMORPG, but something new.. not like WoW/Rift. A futuristic MMORPG would be sick. Not EVE. I want it to be first person... I liked WoW a lot then hit 85 and got bored. Got to like 20 in Rift and got bored because of all the aggro...

I've played soo many games and I kind of want one thats not that competitive, something just for fun. Doesn't have to be an MMORPG, can be something competitive xD. Just want a cool game to play!!! I hate old games...

Any tips? <333

Give some fighting games a try.
Super street fighter 4 AE, marvel vs capcom 3, and mortal kombat 9 are some popular ones right now.

Competitive and skill based.

Dwarf Fortress my friend, that is all you need.
Never fear the darkness, Bran. The strongest trees are rooted in the dark places of the earth. Darkness will be your cloak, your shield, your mother's milk. Darkness will make you strong.

Personally, I suggest something that takes the edge off of StarCraft II, not replace it with an equally intensive game. I see Minecraft didn't work for you, so let's shoot in another direction.

Have you considered singleplayer games? It doesn't seem your suit but they're both seclusive (meaning no pressure to improve or need to thrive above others) and gives you an enjoyable time.

What kind of games do you like or is it only MMORPG? Might I suggest Global Agenda then?

I'm not really a fan of single player games, but if its really good I will play it. I loved Mass Effect 2. I've usually on played FPS and MMORPG games, SC2 was one of my first RTSes.

I played Global Agenda a lot during the beta, tbh I'm not sure why I stopped playing... I think it was because the game was dying and there weren't a lot of people on or something. I'm not sure if this is still true.

It's a bit true, not going to lie. Just seemed right up your ally. Hm... off the bat, I can't really suggest anything for you. I'm about to play Bulletstorm, no idea how it fairs, but it looked like fun (so I figured, why not?)

Did you only play single player minecraft? There's a lot of cool smp servers out there and some great creative ones also. I recently found a new server called siegecraft which has blown me away.

Yeah I was just looking at Bulletstorm, Red Faction Armageddon, and Brink. They all look pretty cool.

I played single player and hosted a server with my friend and I. I joined a few public servers and they all looked mainly the same.. Tons of random people building stuff everywhere xD.

As for a MMORPG-ish game, what about Witcher 2? RPG without the burden of being an MMO.

You'll like the Witcher 2 then. It's what Dragon Age 2 essentially wanted to be.

You should either play LoL/DotA/HoN or BW/WC3. I would pick one of the latter two.

You said that you played minecraft maybe you should try some cool mods for minecraft such as...
Industrial craft heres the link: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/184263-166-industrialcraft-v720/
So whats industrial craft. It's a mod for minecraft that lets you build all sort of new stuff like generatos, lasers, circuites, nuclear reactors, chainsaws, cables, windmills basiclly everything that has to do with electronics its pretty cool how much things you can do in this mod if you don't know how to fill your time I strongly recommend you to try it.

It aint anything compared to Dota.

Get Dota if you can. If not pick up some random single player game that has had good reviews. Try FF7 :D

Well i dont really know why you have to play a game, why not find something else besides games until you feel like playing again?

But if it really has to be a game i'd suggest a single player one, something like Borderlands, Terarria, or Frozen Synapse.

Those would be my 3 picks. Just browse steam and pick a game.

I know this isn't along the lines of what you say you're looking for, but whenever I need a break from SC I just play flash/browser games. They're free, come in every single genre out there, many are actually very well polished, they have endings so they don't suck up your entire life, and if you don't like the one you're playing, just quit and find another one!

As said in page 1 if you're looking for a great competitive game, you should get into Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition, there's no better time to do it since it will come out for PC on July 7th (on steam), also this is EVO 2k11 season, the biggest fighting game tournament in the world so you should probably check it out to see what the scene is like, it's not too late to get into it

I just downloaded Sanctum from steam and started playing a couple days ago.

Really good game based on tower defense combined with first shooter. (Should I build a gattling gun tower...or should I upgrade my massive sniper rifle?)

Although I'm not sure it will give you a huge number of hours of play...but its easy to pick up, costs $15 max, and can certainly occupy some of your spare time effectively.

So many games out there. I like to play the old games once in a while. Have you played Fallout 2 or the baldur's gate series? great games. Maybe Duke Nukem or quake - just for the fun of it . Or diablo 2 to get excited for upcoming third.

EDIT: nvm, you hate old games I guess

These are two games you prolly already have, so why not go play them again?

L4D and L4D2. They're great games, fun and semi-competitive. You can own nubs without the stress from SC2, and with all the visceral pleasure of massmurdering zombies.

Golf? Surfing? Fishing? Build a car? Walk around the world? Dunno.. maybe it's time to just turn off the computer. I doubt there are many games that will keep you interested after playing Starcraft at such a high level.

Minecraft gets real old if you do single with standard textures and no mods.

if you want to play single, try the NOW pack, which is a compilation of the best mods around. It adds a whole slew of new mobs/baddies to the game, new items, diversifies the ores you can collect, adds furniture, stained glass...

The site (below) also has an adventure map, which is pregenerated and has a ton of dungeons on it.

http://skylands.goonygoon.com/

Up until recently, all those mods were only for Single PLayer (SSP). But because the owner of the server I play on is a mother fucking wizard (or employs wizards), we are implementing all that stuff tonight. And we have probably one of the prettiest worlds you'll find around

http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3373040&userid=0&perpage=40&pagenumber=1

One of the dudes is putting together an imgur gallery. It's way short, but the thread is littered with more shots.

Fallout is indeed a great game. New Vegas is also worth trying out, though it's basically Fallout 3 with some improvements and some blemishes.

Would Civilization IV be an appropriate suggestion? There is no greater time-sink than the Civilization franchise of games, and Civ IV is no exception. There are tons of mods out there for Civ IV that should greatly extend its replay value.

This may sound weird, but usually I just cool off by playing modern warfare 2.

I find it a bit more simple and chill compared to starcraft.

King's Bounty is an incredibly relaxing single player game and can still be challenging if you play it on impossible straight away. There's nothing competitive about it tho and it's mega old school :p
(very similar to Heroes of Might and Magic).

Otherwise, Street Fighter all the way!

Yeah LoL ist pretty much like dota, but a lot more noob friendly and the community is nicer (not better - just nicer). Its much more team based than Dota or HoN, because the fights are slower and there is not so much damage (you pretty much don't get oneshot by a single hero). I dont know if it's a good game tho if you are playing it alone. Its best when played as a 5 player group hanging out in skype.

As for bulletstorm: Played though it, but it only lasts you 2-3 days. Its fun tho.

Definately play through the 2 Mass Effect games (and wait for number 3) and check out some indie games like Trine (like lost Vikings if you know that one, just with beautiful graphics)

Im kinda in the same situation as you: looking for games the whole day. IMO it was WoW: Gaming had never been the same again after I quit it. Before I could spend 150 hours on games like Final Fantasy or Oblivion but somehow now everything bores me off after ~20 hours.

For the people reccomending Street Fighter: Is there any collection of guides that helps a complete noob getting into it? Im very interested, but have never played fighting games seriously (xept Soul Calibur 2 a lot against friends) and every tutorial I find seems to be somewhat advanced (terminology like "frame traps", "mixups" etc). I know there is a SF 4 thread, but maybe OP is interested too

edit: typo

The best way to learn those terms is by watching a bunch of vods and just googling every term you don't understand from context. At least that's how I learned. But here's a nice glossary of common terms in fighting games:
http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Appendix:Glossary_of_fighting_games#Cross-Up

Shoryuken also has a nice guide:
http://wiki.shoryuken.com/Super_Street_Fighter_IV

Edit: If you're looking for vods there's a lot of places to look. I personally frequent frame-advantage.com, but there are a lot of other great sources.

try some FPS, i usually hate FPS (or rather, console FPS) but i like military ones like Homefront, Resistance, CoD, Battlefield, etc.

You can also try DotA

Could try Killing Floor. $20 on Steam, fun casual zombie shooter, co-op, LAN, dedi's, single player, class system, fun weapons, including chainsaws, crazy maps, low minimum specs.

Kinda has the oldschool shooter feel to it.

This guy made a pretty good series of videos aimed at people just like you, who are kinda lost on the various guides/forums on SRK/Eventhubs, this seems to be a pretty good tutorial for beginners and you should check it out (the guy has a strong accent but he does a great job at explaining )

Tribal Trouble is a simple RTS thats a lot like SC1/SC2 and costs like $30 I believe. Theres a demo on tribaltrouble.com if you want to try that out first.
