I recently decided to get back into the game on a more regular base. And it was hell... seriously. Some people said before, that the first matches after a break are gruesome, but I'd never expected it to be so bad.
In the first games I just forgot about everything... missed overlords, messed up build orders, APM slow slow slow. So I got demolished, wasn't even close.
It took about 15 games until I noticed I was getting a little closer back to my old shape and it started to feel good again. But in these 15 games I seriously thought about dropping the game forever and focus on something else.
So if anyone is in the same situation right now or laters... just stay strong. It really seems it'll take ages until you get back into your old shape, but actually it's faster than it feels
Another thing I noticed that despite my mechanics being lacking, my playstyle and understanding of the game still changed/improved. It's like my approach to the game totally changed.
I used to be a very passive macro style player who spent most part of the game on defending and then overwhelming my opponent in the end. But the last games I was experimenting with drops (never did them much before) and put a bit more aggression during the early phases on my opponents. Or change my gameplan altogether if I think it would work.
For example I played a fast expanding Toss and I just couldn't help but notice that his building and cannon placement is totally vulnerable. So I decided to go for earlier roaches and put pressure on his expansion. In the end I won with that push and he started to flame me for it. Now my question is, should I feel bad for exploiting his weakness? Or is it his fault for never scouting and just having bad placement?
I'd post some replays, but currently at work.
Well enough ranting, so gl and hf on the way up your ladder!
