Hey TL long time lurker here! As the title states this is Shallow Skies first recording, while we've been together for about a month. Were still finding our sound, but I believe this song is a solid foundation to progress from. I'll sum it up as metal/rock for simplicity. My brother is on guitar/bass (until we find a decent bassist) with our 2 good friends on guitar/vocals, which leaves me on drums.
We recorded in our studio - basically a laptop, cubase 4, mixer and vocal mic. The drums are electric (new pearl e pros, which are actually normal acoustic drums with special heads placed on top, not the small plastic ones your probably imagining) while the cymbals are acoustic.
The recording isn't perfect, but it can only get better from here as the band gets tighter, musicianship improves, and we learn our way around the recording process!
Feel free to leave opinions/suggestions, were pretty critical of ourselves and curious to hear what people think regardless of what genre of music they typically listen to
little more vocals and less guitar would help the recording a lot studio albums tend to have higher than guitar vocals in terms of volume. Personally I like the style, the vocals not so much but its well produced. a little more bass wouldnt hurt either.
Thanks guys! My bro agrees that the guitar mixing could have gone better. He's already been working on a different method to get a better, more defined tone without drowning the vocals for future recordings.

I agree. I thought this song had a lot of good things going for it, but it was just kind of boring. Don't take that as a put-down though, I really did think there was a lot of good stuff, like the musicianship in general. Like, it was well played, it just got boring.
I can diffidently see where you guys are coming from when you say it gets boring. The chorus does get slightly repetitive. Ironically that was the first riff of the song which led to many other more interesting riffs in the song imo. Thanks again for more input guys.
thanks guys! were hoping people might be able to see some potential in the band, and yes it's possible that a little bit of dream theater influence snuck in there aha
Will be back recording pretty soon, and I'll update this blog to get more feedback from TL <3
