Whenever I encounter a Zerg player, I usually lose due to some form of cheese. I finally was able to take out that frustration on my previous match (took place in Metalopolis). You see, I had a hunch my opponent would go for 6 Pool, so just to play it safe, I used the resources I was planning on spending for 7 Roaches to make more Zerglings. He took down my Queen after I managed to kill every last of his Lings and since I am aware that if a Zerg player goes 6 Pool, he is practically open for attack. Just to play it safe however, I decided to scout with the Watchtowers and see if he will attempt another zergling rush, which he did. This time, I took him down with the Roaches I built and issued a counter-attack that ensured me a victory.
I have to say, playing ZvZ might be the most intimidating part of a Zerg player like myself. I have this huge tendency to fail within the 10 minute mark because of some form of cheese. Thankfully, I was able to keep a clear head and react accordingly. Though I also noticed that it is only on ZvZ that I actually spawn zerglings. Much like TotalBiscuit and his dislike for tanks as a Terran player, I have a partial dislike for zerglings (which is why I have never used banelings at all) and I'd rather go for roaches as my only ground unit and rely on air strikes by Mutalisk and Brood Lord. Perhaps I underestimated their potential. Hmmm...
Anyways, that's all I gotta write for today. Thanks and bye. :D
P.S: I should also thank the Punch Out Wii Theme for keeping me focused. Goes well with other songs on my playlist.

Holy shit you won a zvz! Congrats. Thats something that I am not able to do haha.

ZvZ is such a volatile match-up. You can cheese so many different ways and it will just make your opponents head pop in frustration. GJ on beating out the queso my friend.

I am the opposite, I am happy when a zvz comes up because I win around 70% of them. ZvZ is largely reliant on scouting because both you and your opponent have exactly the same resources and ability to do things. If you drone too much you can lose to an opponent thats making units, if you unit too much and dont attack a droning player you can get rolled over.
Your first overlord should cover his ramp so you can see what unit see is making in the beginning, and the rest of your overlords should give you vision of his attack paths to you so you know exactly what is coming and when. If the game lasts past the initial speedling/baneling it often will go like this 1 base speedling bane >> 2 base roach >> 3 base roach infestor. If you can place a lord behind his nat and periodially check how many drones are at it you can know how many drones you can make.
Upgrades on roaches make a huge difference! Don't saturate 2 bases versus a 1 base player or one who takes an expo but doesnt make drones, you wont have enough units.
I would not go mutalisk in zvz, as they can easily put down spore crawlers and then techto hydra your money wouldbebetter spent in roach upgrades and tehcing to infestor.
On 2 player maps scout on 8 or 9 so you can see a 6 pool coming then it is easy to hold off.

make defensive banelings > suddenly never lose to any sorts of zergling play

Sweet I am going to check that out when I get home from work.

I have not played BW in multiplayer, but is it that hard to win in a ZvZ? O_O

Timings come down to quarters of seconds in BW ZvZ, and if you're one millimeter out of position with your mutas or scourge you just straight up lose. As much as I hate SC2 ZvZ, BW ZvZ was more frustrating at times.

There was one recent progame (Hoejja vs ggaemo) where when they showed the replay, the commentators slowed it down to like 1/4 or 1/8 speed to demonstrate how the winner was able to win, since the result was so surprising. Any faster and the audience would not have been able to see what happened
