I have come here seeking the infinite wisdom that is Teamliquid.net. I am currently a senior in high school and have pretty much finished up with the whole college application process with one exception- I got waitlisted at Middlebury! Now I know that no one on TL would notice if I went to Harvard or lived in a cardboard box, but I'm going to ask for your advice/anecdotes/etc.

I am planning on writing a letter to admissions telling them that Middlebury is my #1 choice, but I honestly don't know what else to say (halp!). I'm sending in my 3rd quarter grades (which were pretty durn good if I do say so myself) and my guidance councelor is sending a letter or something (idk exactly what she's doing tbh). I really don't know what else to do, but I really want to get in so any suggestions are appreciated!

If I get rejected by Middlebury I will be attending Hamilton college.

TL;DR- I'm on a waitlist. How do I get off.

Sorry to say you just have to wait... unless you plan on somehow "dealing with" the people in front of you 8].

There's not a whole lot you can do about the waitlist man. College is pretty ruthless like that. :/

Yeah, I guess I should have put this in the OP haha:
I know that they will fill all possible slots with admitted students first. If they still have open slots after all admitted students make their decisions (eg: many of those students choose to go elsewhere) then they will start accepting people off the waitlist. Therefore, it is entirely possible that not a single student will be accepted off of the waitlist.

I was just wondering if there was anything that I could do to make myself more appealing (for lack of a better word) to the school if they have to resort to accepting waitlisted students. . . without killing anyone

Waitlists = very unlikely. Just think like you're going to Hamilton, and if you get into Middlebury it'll be a nice surprise.

You just have to wait and pray that you get that call from the university... Theres nothing you can really do except hope that others who get in decide to go elsewhere. There is hope though, my best friend in high school was on the wait list for Princeton until like the very last day and then he got in!! so it can be done. Good Luck!

You can send them a letter of intent saying that they are your #1 choice, if you would go 100% if they accepted you. You can actually send multiple letters of intent, and even call their admissions office to ask if wait list spots have opened up. Be proactive, and demonstrate your interest. There are two possible outcomes: one, they get annoyed at you and ignore you, or two, they get annoyed at you and accept you so you'll stop calling. Of course, don't be an ass about it.

I've heard of some people getting into medical school off the wait list this way. Just make yourself heard by the admissions committee.
