I'm going polyphasic again! This ought to be fun
So by now, most people know what polyphasic sleep is. In a nutshell, it's a sleeping pattern where you sleep more than once a day, the most popular being 6x20m spread out through the day.
The past few weeks I've had the most irregular sleeping pattern. Some days I would sleep 2x3hours and some days I would sleep like a rock, but I'd end up staying up all night and sleeping through the day occasionally, and that's just weird. So instead of forcing myself to sleep at a proper time every night (I hate sleeping, feels like a waste of time), I've decided to go back to being polyphasic. I've done this before, only being on the Uberman schedule for about 3-4 weeks with a few lapses, before realising that these sleeping patterns don't work with high school. Who knew, right?
Another cute part of polyphasic sleeping is that lucid dreams become more common and vivid. I just love lucid dreaming, especially with 20 minute naps. It feels as if you've been sleeping/dreaming for an hour or more. Such a great feeling.
Although I want to try the Dymaxion sleeping pattern for curiosity's sake, which is 4x30m naps a day, I hear this is impossible or quite close to it. Instead I'll just be going back to Uberman (6x20m) and once I'm comfortable for a few weeks, I might try and readjust to the Dymaxion pattern.
The reason I'm making a blog is because it's one of the best ways to keep track of lapses and it also helps in staying focused and not giving up.
If anyone wants to join me, feel free to do so! There's only two requirements.
1. No strict schedule for the foreseeable future (like high school or work). College can work if your timetable allows for it. The first week or two must be absolutely free, as you will literally be too tired to move.
2. An alarm clock.

I'm a little confused about this. I would go mentally insane with just 2 hours of sleep per day.

I thought that too. I'm not going to pretend to know the science (if there is any) behind it, I just know that once you're fully adjusted, each nap feels fucking fantastic.
|
Always wanted to try properly I tried but was too busy to keep it up. Actually wrote a little paper about it. Might try again in the vacation but with lots of connected classes it just won't be possible.
|
You might want to double check but I think the program you want to do consists of 6x20min naps instead of 4. Edit: My bad I was thinking about Uberman.
Good luck!

I was thinking of doing this, but I'm in high school, the best idea I had was to time the sleep cycle so it fits into lunch >.>, and adjusting to it during the summer, but it seems much easier to do for university

So you just spread your six 20 minute naps throughout the day however you want it?

Hi youngminii! Gonna spend all that extra awake time grinding heroics?

Usually it's every 4 hours, but sometimes you can delay a nap by an hour and then compensate for it later by having closer naps.
OP I would love to join you but as it turns out, polyphasic sleeping doesn't work in middle school either!
[and I'd like to keep growing :D]

It's all about the Uberman sleep schedule. Very difficult to pull it off but if you can then the benefits can be enormous.

it doesn't really work and is very unhealthy

And about it being unhealthy there worse unhealthy things people do to themselfs on daily bases, like smoking, not getting enough sleep on a normal sleepling schedule,t but still expects to function the whole next day without any resting time. Not working out and getting obese etc.

I tried doing this once and never felt so miserable

I've been following 2/3-nap everyman (with a 4.5-6 hr core) for around a year now. I know it's not "optimal" (I'm not getting that much more time), but I like waking up early and going to sleep late. Also, the possibility of brain damage scares me If any newcomers are gonna do it though, I'd recommend:
1. Ease into it by getting used to taking naps through the day AND having a full night's sleep, then slowly cutting down your core sleep time. 2. Eat a lot.
