Hello! My name is Lester "DocNemesis" Ramos. Well, not exactly DocNemesis. I was actually going to go for the name DocNemQuisitioN based on my Starcraft II character.
I have played my share of RTS games. My very first game was Red Alert and I played that game on both the PC and the original Playstation and I loved the heck out of that game, especially when playing as the Soviets at the time.
Anyways, after Red Alert, a couple of years later, during my high school years. I was introduced to a game called Starcraft. However, I never had the chance to play that game because my older brother hogged the hell out of that game and all he ever did was use cheat codes. Because of this, I was never exposed to the world of Starcraft (see what I did there?) as I would have liked. Then again, my brother never attempted to check out the community in Starcraft at the time because our dial-up connection way back was flat-out terrible.
While I have never played the first Starcraft, I was exposed to something just as good in my opinion. Three RTS games to be exact. One was Warcraft III:Reign of Chaos, next was Red Alert 2 and then there was Battle Realms, which might be in my opinion one of the most overlooked PC games out there. I played the living hell out of those games in single player and it was through two of the three games I mentioned that exposed me to multiplayer. Me, my brother and an old friend of mine fought against each other in Warcraft III and Battle Realms and I was usually on the losing streak. I haven't played any RTS games since.
Last year, when Starcraft II came out, deep down, I was enticed on buying it. Then I read one review regarding some of it's flaws at the time. You see, I live in the Philippines, in the South East Asian region. Playing against other countries like the North American regions was impossible at the the time til a patch was implemented to resolve that issue. Ever since, I have tried hard to save up my cash only to end up getting wasted away on snacks.
My interest in Starcraft II was still within me. At one point, I asked a friend of mine from Austrailia to see if he can let me have one of his guest passes, which he has. After a couple of days of downloading the client, I was finally able to play the game (at minimum settings) and I was for the most part pleased.
After the trial expired, I checked to see how much the full game costs. It was still 3,500 pesos! That's about the same price as a friggin Collectors Edition of Civilization V, hell even higher than that. So, I went for the alternative approach and bought the game pre-paid. I beat the campaign after a week or so, and I was pleased. Then I played online through the practice leagues and some custom matches and I still sucked. Thankfully in this day and age, the internet can help me out in how to hold my own in Starcraft. Though by the time I got everything almost figured out, my month expired.
It was there, I couldn't take it anymore! I wanted Starcraft II so badly I could almost taste it. It takes a while for me to get a job since I still have an interview at the school I sent my application to ( yeah, I am a High School Teacher). So I decided to do the unthinkable and sell my old junk. And I got plenty of them to sell. I accumulated the funds and resisted the temptation to buy junk food with that money, and it was there, I finally got Starcraft II. Since I can now access the NA servers due to last year's patch, I decided to stick with my NA account instead. I am playing the single player again (it's a habit of mine) and I played a bit of the practice league, and I believe I got two wins so far from there which was kinda nice for me since I felt like I am actually somewhat competent in Starcraft. Though that might change when I am through with Practice and stared going for the Placement Matches. I would definitely get my ass handed to me in less than 10 minutes if I do not know what to do.
Anyways, that's my story from a first time member here on the TL community. Thanks for reading and I hope I can learn everything I need about Starcraft through here.
