I recommended just asking, it tends to work.

Regardless of how you choose, it's your duty as a man to put this song on your phone and play it after the evening concludes

Kids are spoiled now a days, a few years ago we actually had to put some effort into breaking the ice afterwards lol

Do you play any instruments? Write a 30 second corny little song and sing it to her asking her to go to prom with you. Otherwise the teddy bear with a little card that says PROM? thing should work just fine.
You could also just tell her @ school while you're eating, get all serious and tell her you have to tell her something important, then kneel down on 1 knee next to her and ask. "Will you go to prom with me?"
What does she like? You can do something related to her interests?

If you're too lazy to do any of the above just give her a hug, kiss her on the cheek and simply ask her.

Also. Do it soon

You don't want to keep her waiting; the more you wait, the more impressive you have to be. Cuz she'll assume you're going together anyway, and she'll be getting irritated that you're not asking her.

Lol do people really make like special ways to ask a girl out to prom? Just ask her if she wants to go with you. If you know her well enough, you probably already know if she has a date or if she's interested in you. Unless it's like some girl you barely know etc... GL lol.
