I've been wary of having any expectations for NASL, I'm all for hoping it goes well and that the e-sports scene expands, but i have my doubts. Ignoring the whole voting for players and not just having an open format problems that i and so many others have with the current outlook, it's looking alright. Now my first and foremost question: whether it would be worth paying for. I had the same dilemma with gom before eventually spending on access to the paying user features, including the discounted old seasons. While that was a cut out of my budget, I currently consider it entirely worth it. The thing is, if I cut into my budget (and bandwidth) for NASL as well, well that was money i could have used on other things, when i already have gom access. On bandwidth too, most of the qualities available on NASL according to what i heard a while back sounded too good for my dodgy Australian broadband (both speeds and download limits). I did check out the payments for NASL page, and i'd have to borrow a credit card and pay a friend back or something, because it doesn't accept paypal, which is my only means to pay online myself On-top of all this, i don't even watch MLG as is (and im not sure why, i just don't); so im curious, what do you guys think? Edit: oh sweet; I'm a lurker now!

I really don't think that MLG can be compared to NASL, because imo, MLG were definitely not prepared.
as for NASL, since it will be streamed on jtv, I'm most likely assuming that it will be also available on 720p and lower res for those who purchased season pass, because I can't see myself streaming at 1080p - else it'll be too laggy. Another reason why I purchased season pass is because there's absolutely no way that I'm going to be watching every single game, every single day. Specially on weekends. so VODs are definitely a big plus

One more thing to add to the above poster - the games will be casted from replays AND prerecorded, so there's no major connectivity issues to deal with unless your internet is inherently bad.
|
afaik its prerecorded, but not casted from replays...
also, i dunno if he was referencing mlg's tech problems (cuz that's what stands out first to most people right now) rather than just the fact that he's never watched major NA tournaments, which wouldn't help judge the value of one NA tournament.
Personnally i'd just wait, maybe try and catch some games on the free LQ (if timezones permit), and mostly wait to see the reaction from the community. I mean, i think it lasts like 3 months, you got ample time to decide wether you want to pay or not, plus you'll get the vods for what you missed if you do miss something incredible.
So yeah, i'd probably wait.

The games will be casted live, so when X plays Y, Z casters will be watching and casting live. It just won't be broad casted live to ensure no one stream cheats. Also, they will take the casts and put it through post production work.

Peter, its not casted from replays!

What I am still wondering is where all the money is coming from for the NASL. Did they ever explain that?

You know what would be brilliant? If there was actually no real funding but they made this such a huge event that they made the money during the tournament then paid off the winnings with that new found money. It would be a risky and bold move but it would be possible. I mean, how many private millionaires are running around throwing their money around like this? Personally, I smell something fishy. I trust Incontrol and all that; however, who knows who is pulling the strings behind the scenes.
I realize my thoughts are somewhat conspiracy theorist; however, when they refuse to tell you who donated almost half a million dollars and just say 'dont worry about it, it's some rich private fund', they are just asking for people to speculate and theorize what they want.
Like I said. I smell something fishy.

If I heard correctly, iNconroL said they are looking on allowing paypal payments for the stream. He isn't the almighty but he does hear a lot of things. For only $25 dollars I would say its safe to say with the NASL schedule you will be getting your moneys worth, if you've seen the schedule thats already put out.

My only issue is how well the presentation will be. If it is good I will buy the pass.

Currently I'm picturing it being like the EG master cups, if you are familiar with those. I'm just sad that iNcontroL won't be able to cast on Tuesdays as that is his game day.

Like I said. I smell something fishy. The scenario you're describing is actually not brilliant. It would be illegal, because it would be a scam. I'm not saying that this is what NASL is doing, I'm sure they have money, I'm just clarifying that schemes like these are a short hop, skip, and jump from being sued. See: Ponzi scheme, Pyramid scheme, etc.
