Well. I am currently attending high school, I am probably one of the stupider kid in my group of friends. I don't know why but when I look all my friends seem to be doing better than me, even in life. I average about a C-/+ depending on the term, like last term I basically failed physics and while my friends all got like B's and I am like what the fuck. Even in school my friends always seem to think of better things and stuff while I always think of stupid stuff. I don't do stupid things. I just say them without thinking it through, I don't even know why. Even though my school life, I relied on everything with my friends, I basically put my education in their hands, I always copied off my friends homework, on test i study but do bad/fail and the only way through life for me is cheating and it sucks! And in term 2 i am basically averaging out a C- in Chemistry and a D- in Biology and a B+ in Math. My parents want me to average a C+ in everything but it seems so hard, and procrastinating is like the only thing i can do right. I am always out of the loop in life, even with my parents it like uhhh wTF? Is it maybe becasue I started playing video games at the age of like 10 and got addicted :S? Even when it comes to the logical things in high school, i always seem to fail them and I can't quit playing video games... I honestly don't know why. I am the average kid but I am not special or anything. I want to do better in life, but i just don't know what is holding me back.. is it video games or just me?

You need to read some books, stop playing videogames, and get your fucking life on track. Reason? Good grades in high school determine if and where you go to college, and life without a college education is hard, take my word for it. Just because your parents want you to average a C+ doesn't mean that should be your goal. You are a student and have only 1 important task in this world and that is to learn and get good grades. You need to start taking life seriously, and that means sacrificing things until you raise your grades.

It's neither you or the video games. It's your mindset on the situation. If you only focus on the negative aspects of your life, they naturally appear amplified out of their real proportions. Trust me, plenty of people out there live far less meaningful and productive lives than you. And when it comes down to you, you give life meaning, not your friends. You are the reason your life is important. Don't compare yourself to others. Life isn't a competition. It's a miracle. Don't ruin it for yourself by obsessing over something as impossible as perfection. There will be points in life for almost everyone where they are pushed back against the wall and have nowhere to run or hide from their problems anymore. It will seem unbearable. But you can overcome these. All you have to do is get your mind out of the runt and pull yourself together. I wish you the best.
Also don't mind the trolls or people who can only articulate their advice in harsh vulgar.

Sounds to me like you're just lazy...

Bro, I was in the same situation as you. I was a lazy dumb kid with no friends though. My grades? 30%. I failed my 9th grade and only got 60s until the end of high-school (I did my classes in french, so it was very hard).
Why don't you tell us what you want to do in life? Can I guess that you don't know? I didn't know and it was a large reason why I didn't do well in class, no reason to since I had no aim, goal or motivation. My sole motivation was to finish and get out as my father would say.
My best suggestion, learn to reward yourself. Everytime I finished studying a large portion, I'd reward myself with a game or with food or something. It worked for years and it still does, it requires a lot of talking to yourself and self-control.

acknowledging you have a problem that u want to fix is the first step
i can't really give you good advice, but i'll offer you my thoughts just know that every move you make is your choice. you could choose to play games right now if you wanted to. you could procrastinate if you wanted to. if you really wanted to raise your grades, you probably could.
its just a matter of when you decide to put your first step forward =P

In my blog, just a week or 2 ago, I'm kinda facing a similar problem, though our cases are quite different. Learn to give up somethings, because even though you might not think it now, school is definitely worth giving up time for. Why else do you spend close to 8 hours at school everyday? It's worth it in the long run, and putting hard work and effort into it will go a long way. Stop copying your friends and do your own homework. That way studying is a lot easier. Also with biology its mostly memorization and if you don't do your homework, your not gonna retain anything.
You kinda answered your own question, but I must ask how many hours do you spend on gaming...? If you can't quit learn to cut down

If he was lazy, then why would he complain about it? The mindset doesn't match your characteristic.

Don't judge how good your life is based on the grades you are getting.

LOL what???
Complaining is the hallmark of the lazy...

I would say some lazy people complain and some don't. You are both wrong

Complaining and not wanting to do anything about it is.

Drop the games bro; take it from someone who played too much during HS and regrets it. Priorities mate, get em right.

Haha i can tell you that i am so lazy, but i realize it and i hate it. I always complain that i just cant get the motivation to do certain things, and it pisses me off. I really think you need to set goals for yourself on what you want to do, and then force yourself to do it. You are the only person that can make yourself do something!

There was a part of my life during which school just wasn't for me. It's probably a different period though. Through high school, I averaged a B, but from 17 to 19 in uni, I couldn't actually get anything done. I failed a bunch of classes because I didn't care - and you probably don't either.
I worked and played poker for a while until I decided to go back to school. Now I'm a B+/A student and I'm not any smarter than I was before - I just have the correct mindset.
To be honest, I don't even do my homework and give very little effort outside what's absolutely mandatory... I'm the very definition of lazy. For instance I'll solve 1-2 of each type of problem in math, and that's how I came out of both my calculus classes with very respectable grades - even quite far above average - this is especially impressive since I'm typically very bad at mathematics. I spend 15 minutes on it per 5 hours of class, which is literally 20 times less than the specified "study time" suggested by the course outline.
I really have no suggestion other than find a way to make yourself WANT to pass. If you can't do that now, tough it out until you make it through and hopefully someday you'll have an urge to know stuff.

Calling him lazy and leaving it at that doesn't help him at all. OP, I think it might help to examine why all of this is bothering you to begin with. What do you want to do with your life? I think you might lack motivation just because you don't see any reason to put effort into your school work.
Don't try to force yourself to study just because your parents are pressuring you to or because you feel dumb compared to your friends. I don't think that'd be very effective. Instead consider how you would like to spend the rest of your life; indeed, high school does much to determine it. Is a life with some sacrifice now and more reward later (better education means more money) more appealing to you than a life spent with only the immediate future in mind? And this is a serious question. I know a very intelligent guy who chooses to slack off in school and get high every day because he doesn't want to die without having enjoyed his life.
It's your life. Consider all your possible courses of action with their implications and choose wisely.

i used to be really fucking lazy, it sucked. i didnt do as well as i could have in high school and i sometimes regret it now. but i managed to overcome my laziness (unfortunately this happened after i was out of high school).

ok a few things...
1) it's good that you realize there's a problem 2) stop copying off of friends' notes, cheating is bad. 3) stop procrastinating. easier said than done, i know. set reasonable goals, like study math for 30 minutes before i do xyz for 30 minutes. then study chem for 30 minutes, etc. 4) games are NOT the problem. do you know how many academic ballers are on TL? it's your mindset. don't blame the games, blame your lack of self-discipline.
basically, you need to take ownership of your life. you're in high school, you aren't a kid anymore. chances are, you hate it when adults are condescending towards you. but guess what, there's a reason for it. once you can show you're in control of your life and are heading toward a positive direction i guarantee things will be better for you in all aspects of your life.
good luck.

Wanting to understand and asking for advice seems like a fine start.
