I'd like to tell you a bit about myself =)
My name is Omri, I'm 23 years old. I'm a huge Blizz fan for a long time. I played all their games from WC2 up to now, SC2 is the first RTS I try to play competitively though.
I actually come from a fighting games background - Street Fighter, Guilty Gear, BlazeBlue, but I just find Starcraft that much better.
About my Starcraft 2 history, I started playing the game around 2 weeks after it came out on a friend's account since I didn't have enough money to buy it. We both started out at bronze (on the same account) and played around 10 hours every day and got to diamond after 2 weeks. Around that time I got SC2 as a gift from my parents and got my own account.
Since I'm a student, I don't have much time to play, so I pretty much just try to keep my bonus pool down as much as I can. When Master came out I got promoted at the same day. Currently I'm at around 3.4k Master Zerg on the EU server. I started coaching as well a few months ago for fun but since I got so many people who wanted coaching I started taking 5$/h to narrow it down. I still coach, and I enjoy it a lot =)
Anyway, another love of mine is writing. I write short stories when I have the time and one day I thought to myself: "Why not combine these 2 loves of mine? I can write a story about Starcraft!"
So I decided to write a journal-like story where a rookie marine is writing about his everyday life on some forsaken outpost and his first engagements with the Zerg and Protoss. The story takes place between the first and second game, a time of peace of sorts.
Now I'm a huge TL fan, so I thought that this would be the best place to post my story. I'm not only posting it to make it public, but also to get criticized so I can improve it with time. Maybe even an audience interactive story of sorts where you guys can decide how the story goes.
First thing I'd like to ask of you, is to find a name for the planet that our hero marine is serving on. For now it's called "Planet X", but I'm sure we can fine something better!
I'll post the first chapter here and If I see that there are people who'd like to read more than I'll start writing more chapters. One thing though before I post the story, I hardly have time to write as it is because of the University, coaching and playing, so I'm sorry in advance if I won't be able to write more than 1 chapter every week or so. The more people that will read this and comment, the more I'll be inclined to write though
So here we go!
Life of a Marine – A Journal
Planet X – day 63
"The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents."
I read that in a book once. The more time I spend on this forsaken planet, the more I'm inclined to agree with that statement.
This is day 63 on X. We're still bored to death, sitting idle all day waiting for the people in the upper ranks to order our departure already.
The stories about the vile Zergs are still the main conversation topic between men in the outpost. I sometimes wonder if all those stories are true, or if they're some fairy-tales created by the twisted minds of some poor war veterans.
There is some tension between the war veterans and us rookies. I'm not sure whose fault it is, maybe both of us. Some rookies are overconfident, taunting the veterans for their endless stories about their meetings with the Zerg and the terror they experienced. "We'll show them who's the boss when we'll finally head out!" is the common saying between the rookies. Not me though, I know never to underestimate my enemies, nothing good can come out of it.
I have to admit, the stories do seem a bit exaggerated, but you can't know 'till you see it for yourself.
Today the tension reached new heights, a few rookies and veterans traded wild punches in the feeding hall. Now this is some story here:
An old time veteran, Jack, told another war story around the dinner table while a new comer, Ned, started laughing at him next to the other veterans. Apparently, Jack and his boys didn't appreciate that some "fresh meat" is disrespecting an old war hero. Before you could say Overmind, Jack's group was all over Ned. But Ned is no fool yo, he's got friends as well.
When the FPD finally arrived, around fifteen people were already injured pretty badly. Most of them were just sent to isolation for a week or so. But the Federation doesn't take riots so lightly; Ned and Jack were immediately executed in the public hall in front of everyone, a gruesome sight. This was a sad day for a lot of people.
With all my rambling about today's occurrences, I almost forgot why I wrote that sentence in the beginning.
It seems that the more we know about the world around us, the crazier we get. I mean just look at all those veterans, almost none of them remained completely sane; they all got their little quirks and problems from their experience in the last war. I can only hope that the same won't happen to me.
Maybe it's better to stay bored instead of going to war again. Still, I can't wait to shoot some god damn stinky aliens.
Heh, I think I'll go to sleep now, early training tomorrow. Night yo.
