So I've decided to create an informative and hopefulyl entertaining weekly blog of my number one passion, music. Each week I will show case a bunch of songs from a bunch of genres that I have been listening to in the week. A reason why you should listen to it, as well as a few songs from up and coming artists that you can possibly go out and support.
I want this blog to be as accessible as possible, there will be music to appeal to all, people who want something new and catchy to listen to, hipsters who want a cool new obscure artist to impress their friends. I will try to cater to everyone's needs here.
So without further ado, This is what I've been listening to this week:
Rock:
One Wing -Wilco [Album: Wilco (2009)]
My favourite song from Wilco's new album Wilco. If your not familiar with Wilco, they are a long running American alternative rock band that's been going strong for 16 years now. My favourite band of all time, and you'll be sure to see some of their other songs on these blogs. This song has a very grimly poetic feel that you would expect from Jeff Tweedy, as well as an almost too modest guitar solo. From Wilco lead guitarist Nels Cline. If you like this I recommend the entire album.
Rap/HipHop
Rose Garden -Shad [Album: TSOL (2010)]
Canadian rapper Shad is a true rarity among hip hop artists nowadays. He knows how to make music. Many rappers and hip hop artists fall under the bridge for knowing how to write great lyrics, but not knowing squat when it comes to writing music. On top of that he's a real nice and intelligent guy, in fact he's a good friend of my High School Music teacher . I recommend this song if you want to be put in a good mood, a really really good mood.
Post Rock
I Believe In Your Victory -This Will Destroy You [Album: Young Mountain (2006)]
Living in the shadow of their fellow Texan post rock band "Explosions In The Sky", "This Will Destroy You" is often over looked for sheer epic masterpieces of music. This song packs the emotion of very dark post rock songs much like "Godspeed You! Black Emporer" with the elegant sharp beauty of "Explosions In The Sky". The best of both worlds, this song is Post Rock with gusto. I recommend this while playing Starcraft, makes you pumped as fuck.
Pop
Black & Blue -Miike Snow [Album: Miike Snow (2009)]
I'm not sure how I can classify the band itself, as when I listened to the album it seemed some what inconsistently good. However this song has a fantastic pop drive to it that carries the lyrics perfectly. I caught myself bobbing my head to this song on multiple occasions this week, I hope it does the same for you.
Electronica
I Can Change -LCD Soundsytem [Album: This Is Happening (2010)]
James Murphy really delivers on what looks to be his last album in his odd but critically acclaimed career. His charming stuffy vocals tell a tale of a romance falling apart with him desperately trying to save it with a wonderful 80's vibe you can always expect from LCD Soundsystem. I recommend this entire album if you like the "Talking Heads"
Artist Of The Week that deserve more attention
The Reign Of Kindo
There is no band I can think of that has so much raw talent as TROK yet has not found much mainstream success. The band has a great unique sound, fusing jazz, rock and even certain classical elements into their music backed by an amazing drummer.
Play Starcraft with this Song, its awesome.
And That wraps up week one, Hope you liked it
