I don't make many blog posts but I felt that this was a good time to make one, recently I have become extremely bored with SC2, and found myself going back to Brood War to find that old nostalgic feeling, and I got that feeling and some, I actually now enjoy playing BW even more than I did before I stopped playing about 6 - 7 months ago because of SC2 Beta.
SC2 Is a fun game for me but I'm beginning to think that that is all it has to offer me, and even that doesn't offer me much, because I always find myself getting bored and not really having anymore fun on SC2 after a few games, I'm sure this is because I mass gamed so much since the beta, I've played over 6K games since beta I know that much.
My problem with SC2 is I guess the staleness of the maps, the dynamics of the game, it all just seems way to easy, or maybe a better way to put it is way to ' simple ' . That doesn't mean that you will win every game though, it's just the meta game , unit counters and everything is so simple, and then the whole giant armies colliding at once and whole armies just destroyed in a few seconds rather than the ' fillers ' ( I guess you could say ) in between battles in BroodWar, like for instance a Tank push across the map , inch by inch, battling your way with precise siege and unsiege to get to the desired checkpoint, I mean that can happen in SC2 as well but not to the same extent, it's just mostly giant armies colliding and just bassically simple massing of units.
I played Zerg in SC2 , this is probably one of the reasons why I get so bored of SC2 after losing so many times because of what I feel is small stupid mistakes , it becomes really frustrating and discouraging when you lose games all the time as zerg that you don't feel like you should have lost, after that happens a few times I bassically just lose interest and then find myself half ass playing and losing more which just causes me to get so bored and frustrated I just return to a game that I actually enjoy regardless of whether I win or lose , probably because of the difficulty, and the reward I am presented if I am victorious in battle.
I'm not sure if this will be the end of my SC2 gaming , I actually know it isn't , I guess I will just take a much needed break from SC2 until ( crossing fingers ) they release the new maps, which I hope will be soon.
I was thinking the today about BroodWar and SC2 and I thought... In my mind the majority of all the foreigners in the scene went to SC2 because of a few reasons, money, And because also they want something new, or maybe they want something easier and cannot take the pains from carpal tunnel anymore..Would I play a game that I might be a lot better at because of the simplistic way of the game but not enjoy it as much, or rather play a game that I love and enjoy but am not as good at?...The point is that this has been bothering me so much bassically since I started playing SC2 and I have finally come to grips with my true thoughts, I enjoy playing BW a lot more than SC2, even if it is a harder game to play (especially after I've been on SC2 for 6-7 months X_X )
I've been streaming BW almost every day now and I plan on streaming it every day because I check the streamer list a lot of the time and sometimes I really see 0 ZERO bw streamers, and i'm like wow...a little piece of me dies inside.. but it's time to revive myself, the spark and revival for my love of the game has already happened, so I am very happy right now. I just wanted to share.
There has been a lot of BW streamers though so I am happy for that, I'm glad we have BW streamers like hirosue, sayle, spacemarine, fedOr ( my personal favorite for the 1a2a3a restream OMG so funny ) , ect ect.
I want to figure a way help the BW community here on TLnet, while iccup is down this weekend I was thinking about having a bot in op TL-west , get games going, play / obs, maybe host a tournament and help get people some games vs some good korean players on west.
P.S. - The one thing that I feel I benefited from playing SC2 is that I mass gamed as Zerg, and now I think I am going to come back to BW as Zerg, that kinda sparked my love for the game again, a race I've never really played, it is so much fun too. My highest rank was B- before I started SC2, but I'm sure it will take me a long time to get back to that level. Thank you Teamliquid.

Well with the lack of sc1 vs sc2 threads recently i assumed everyone have kept the angst inside of them for too long and now they finally had a place to let it all out lol.
It was all sarcastic though, seeing as every "discussion" so far has been at least semi-retarded.

Why not change your race on sc2 if you uncomfortable with zerg? Maybe zerg isn't the right race for you. Perhaps playing random for a while to find your 'true' race.
Oh, and please do stream BW, I'll definitely watch if I have time.

because like I stated before I've played almost 10K games as zerg since beta, I don't really want to just start all over playing protoss or terran even though it would be 100x easier than playing Zerg in SC2 . :-P , and plus.... I just enjoy Broodwar more than SC2... I dunno it's just how I feel. :-P

i should make my own blog but i'll just post here instead maybe.
i feel like sc2 has a number of problems with it.
in SC1 standard a-move units did not do much damage. they were needed as the bulk of your army. but shot for shot they wern't very good
atleast not when you compare them with the other units
these are the units that required control. reaver/HT/defiler/spider mines(kind of)
these units did a ridiculous amount of damage in a huge area, or had the potential to swing a battle shockingly wide in their favor.
the easiest comparison is colossus into reaver
reavers doing 100 damage a shot, huge splash radius. but super fragile, super slow, each shot was 25 minerals, had to constantly produce ammo for it.
good reaver shuttle micro would make or break your harassment/push and while the colossus holds that same sort of role (if the colossus die your army becomes weaker by a huge amount)
it's just an a-move unit that can walk up cliffs.
it's traded damage and splash radius for mobility and survivability.
i feel this is trademark of the new blizzard and the way they now balance their games.
"Equalizing"
if you look at wow almost all class specific skills are no longer unique to that class. every class has a silence or interrupt for example.
it seems like Blizzard looked at units. nerfed what they were good at and buffed what they were bad at.
what this has left us with is alot of boring units that have little to no potential.
the only things i can really think of that provoke excitement in spectators are
mass storms
so many banelings
this is a sad thing
my other concern with starcraft is the food cost for units is too high. they could do day9's suggestion of raising the food cap to 300. maybe that would work. but. i actually think the problem lies in Blizzard wanted to make lots of big cool eye catching units.
Thor, Mothership, ULTRALISK(god they are big)
these units cost a truckload of minerals. gas and most importantly food.
armies are tiny. unless they are pure gateway or something like that.
what would i like to see in maybe an expansion to change the game in a positive way?
well im not sure how you would change the colossus to be more interesting. infact almost every new unit blizzard has designed is kind of flat. theres nothing to do with them. which is very worrysome.
i'd like to see less strength in a-move units and more strength in the use of abilities/position/control
i dont think the game is boring because it's too easy due to MBS or automine. theres just nothing to do with your units bar attack move. simply because it's the best/easiest way to crush your enemy.
races should be overpowered. each race should have their own thing a player can do that just seems ridiculous. but not just anyone. skilled players.
balance should be obtained by an equal amount of "overpowered" on each race.
then we'd have an exciting game.

I totally agree that all terran / protoss units are so overpolished and some things i cant come to grips with like the mothership... it just seems like an irrelevant unit when looking at zerg's units lol

yea thats cool, I'm curious why you didn't just go back to broodwar, even though all the awesome work you and your crew have put in to make SC2BW for the people who like it better, it is absolutely amazing work, even though I prefer BW itself more.... cant say again how amazing you and your crews work is

I totally appreciate what you're talking about here. I played Brood War a long time ago -- in 6th grade, against friends only, with nr20. Basically I was a noob among scrubs. And now as a 2800 master zerg I find myself watching nrg.GoD's stream more intently than any others; the sounds and animations are perfect, the apm is orgasmic, and the strategy is SO refined.
Good blog, but I have to admit after reading it I rofl'd. I expected you to be D+ at most, then you reveal you were B-
