I was struggling in all 3 matchups.
But sadly I'm climbing the ladder at an alarming rate.
Now people say blah blah blah I'm Diamond I'm so pro.
I am sort of guilty of that, I always was like well, I'm in diamond, so I'm decent, so I can probably give some sort of advice. I've been proven sorely wrong.
Let's go through all 3 matchups, and talk about why build orders are so damn important.
TvT: Probably my weakest matchup at the outset, it's become probably my strongest. I was wondering why I was dying to all of these really strong high tech cloaked banshee stuff. Turns out I looked at the replays, and I could have killed them like 23 times. So I'm watching Trump's stream. Decent player, good streamer. He keeps on pushing with 7 marines, a tank, and a viking/medivac (depending on scouting) and then expands.
I tried this build, and so far I haven't really lost a game. I've scouted the bio rushes incoming, and have dealt with them with bunkers, and have stomped greedy builds flat out. Just walk in with a medivac, tank, marines, and you basically have the game.
This is disturbing because this is a totally non all in, not terribly aggressive at all push. These people need to take it into account, and it's saddening I'm matched with people that can't hold such a basic push.
TvZ: Formerly second weakest matchup, I've also had a lot of success with a build that LuckyFool suggested. It's quite the awesome build. Reactor hellion expand, but get banshees. It's a fairly awesome harass oriented build, and the banshee comes out in time to hold most roach openings. Even when I've macrod really bad, I've been able to mostly stomp zergs. It's another thing where people simply suck, and I didn't realize how badly I sucked.
TvP: Formerly my strongest matchup is now my weakest. I think I've hit a sweetspot on the ladder where people do know good buildorders. All to the order of proxy stargate, four gate, or 3 gate stargate... Essentially have been like 40% win rate in the matchup with a two rax expand (especially to void ray play), but have on about 70 percent of macroishey games. Any advice on holding 3 gate void ray with 2 rax expand?
I've had an epiphany recently: I suck pretty damn bad. All I need to do is learn a build order, react accordingly, and macro well, and I'll be in masters. It also shows me how damn bad I am. If equivalent people are losing to my ill executed regular builds, something is off.
What do you guys think about all of this. Could I make it to Masters with only 3 builds? How bad does the average diamond player suck? Why does this tank marine thing own 90% of terrans?
Btw, made rice like everyday this week. Sticky rice ftw.
