I don't know about anyone else here, but whenever I leave my house, I wear a baseball hat. To this day, I honestly don't know why. I've been doing it as long as I can remember. I have dozens of them, but usually only wear one, then switch up when it gets worn out. Right now I'm sporting a University of Florida hat.
I always take all of the stickers and tags off, and like to curve the brim of the hat. But more and more, I see people (usually younger) wear hats with a straight brim, and with all the stickers on. And every time I see it, I get a bit ticked off.
I mean, it looks so stupid. The straight brim is bad enough, but leaving all the stickers on makes it look like you shoplifted it or something. Why do people do this? And why is this considered cool?
-_-

it's a fashion statement. it's been around for as long as i can recall. just let it go

I think it looks cool. It's just a recent trend. Why do people following any fashion trend do it? Why does any trend look cool?

If you sport a baseball hat often, the girls around you will notice this very quickly and think you're trying to hide a baldness problem.
The reason why kids wear those hats like that are because:
1. They're kids 2. Soulja Boy does it
Haven't you also seen the shirt and pant stickers trend? The way they buy it is the way they wear it, price attached.

I just don't understand. Leaving the tags and stickers and stuff on just seems asinine to me.
Edit: I am eighteen, I don't think that anyone will believe that I am going bald.

Dude, this has been happening for the past 5 years. You certainly need some catching up to do.

This is absolutely ridiculous, of course they won't automatically assume that because he's wearing a baseball hat often he's trying to hide a baldness problem. They will think he wears a baseball hat because he thinks it looks good on him.

Why the HELL would you wear a UF hat? UF/Gainesville is one of the most boring places in all of Florida.
Well I do know why you wear a UF hat, since you need to fit in I guess.
-edit Shit you are only 18? Take off that UF hat my friend and learn to live your life starting today.

Someone explained to me that baseball cap = curbed brim and no stickers
Other types of hat now = straight brim and stickers

I like the colors. And alligators/crocodiles are my favorite animal.
And I live in Michigan. So I guess I look a bit out of place with it
Edit: What do you mean by "learn to live your life?" ;/

One of my professors at my school wears a baseball cap no matter what he is wearing. He showed up at a conference last weekend in a suit, but he still had his trademark baseball cap on.
i don't think he ever takes it off

There was this guy whom I graduated with. He always wore a cap to school, every single day. Heck, he even presented his senior project with the cap on.
It seems as though it can become an addiction, much like anything else can.
I wouldn't be impressed if he told me he showers with it. To me, he looks like this without a cap:

I absolutely LOVE a straight brimmed hat. And with the stickers still on too. Maybe i'm just odd. I don't think I could ever wear one, but the way guys wear them, *thumbs up*
I wouldn't be able to tell you why it's popular though.. It's been popular for quite a long time now, though. o_O

People who live in Gainesville all have one love, and that is University of Florida's football team. Wherever you go (in Gainesville) there is UF Hat, UF shorts, UF t-shirt, UF sweater, and UF crocs on, and this is the fashion here all year round every day which makes life here pretty scary.
What I mean by "learn to live your life" is exactly how it sounds. Like this thread for instance, what is the point other than gathering if other TL members agree with you or not. If you are ever confused about whether you like something or not in life all you have to do is stop caring about what other people think and start thinking about yourself.

I think it has to do with the hat being or appearing "fresh" (not as a synonym for "cool" but rather "brand new") in that a baller can afford a steady supply of fresh shoes, hats and shirts.

That's...a bit creepy. It sounds like some kind of cult.
And no, it's not that I want confirmation of my opinion, I really just want to know what is so appealing about this fashion trend, because I do not understand it.

Gator fans are only fans when their team is winning too which is pretty backwards. But like I said earlier do you REALLY want to know what is so appealing about this fashion trend? Is it interesting to you? I'm pretty sure BroOd has it with the fresh n so clean look idea its very common in low income areas to buy cheap stuff new to look nice like white T's, and these flat brim hats.
This item is what I would call a Lovely Item, something that you wear so people are like "oh that's (insert name here), you can tell by his choice of hat for today". Everyone does this from the poorest to the richest of people, people just want to be noticed.

Lol welcome to today's youth fashion among the used-to-be thugkids.

It isn't considered cool. Some consider it cool, yeah.
|
I have a big head and long hair. Hats don't concern me.
|
They wear their hats like that for the same reason they buy sweaters with fucking dollar signs on them. It's a sad attempt to say "I just bought this, like ten minutes ago, with my money, some of which I surely still have".
To be honest I wouldn't really wear a baseball cap in either style. I used to like them I guess but I was a kid and it was the 90s. Something about it seems passé.
|
I've never been a fan of hats. I don't look good in them. I'm not a fan of totally neutral style choices like the typical baseball cap, either.
I will say though, that the straight brim + sticker thing looks great with the various clothing styles that go with it. It's just a fashion choice, and a bit of a fad, I wouldn't call it alarming for any reason at all.
Out here in LA, the straight brim thing has been around for years. You'll get used to it.

i thought the stickers were to signify that it's not a fake, but a "real" brand hat or whatever, since fakes don't come with those stickers obv.
i don't really see it in canada often though; must be more widespread in the states
|
Hm. I think it's around in Canada too. I have a friend who does it and he's 23 now I think. He owns a ridiculous number of hats...
I on the other hand, have no concept of trends and am the epitome of uncool. I like to think that it's so obvious I don't follow any fashions that I must have a strong sense of individualism and that makes me cool, but that's probably wishful thinking.
|
I don't like wearing regular hats much. I like to wear a beanie everywhere i go.

Why is it that the moment i read the word "fresh" in the context with a cap, i can´t think of anything else besides
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/6umKf.png)
?
It doesn´t even has anything to do with what you wrote ! (And to make it even worse, NOW i i think about the fact that it is nearly impossible to whip your hair back and forth with a cap... I´m probably going nuts oO )
But to stay at least a little bit on topic : when i see price tags/stickers still attached, it looks just stupid to me... they may think it looks "new and fresh", but to me it just looks like they forgot it... its almost as getting your t-shirt the wrong way in the morning because you are too sleepy.
But hey, so is fashion trends... there have been worse (anyone remembering Buffalo shoes from the 90´s ? :D)
|
Well most short haircuts look pretty boring imo, so unimaginative people (or kids whose parents control their hair) need some sort of removable head fashion. I always assumed the no stickers/curved brim was a practicality thing instead of fashion, so I don't really see the conflict.
The hair thing is an assumption, I have longer hair and hats make it look stupid : \

It practically disappears after that since everyone grows up and finds out that a ballin' hairstyle (or a more fashionable hat) is better.
|
On February 19 2011 07:13 JeeJee wrote: i don't really see it in canada often though; must be more widespread in the states Yeah, you must not hang around too many.. "hang out" areas. I know where I live, the main Skytrain stop in Richmond they hang around, the mall, Metrotown, Pacific Centre, a lot of North Van.. A lot of the guys do it. Like I mean, a lot. xD
|
I think hats with flat brims are popular now because it's fashionable to look like a spoiled 16-year-old brat who thinks the only thing that matters is how his high school peers perceive him and that the best way to be perceived is as a spoiled 16-year-old brat who thinks the only thing that matters is how his high school peers perceive him and that the best way to be perceived is as a spoiled... (ad infinitum)
tl;dr (as it should be, being infinitely long and all): I can't stand that trend and think it looks incredibly juvenile and vain.

He's balding pretty badly, eh?
|
This is nothing new, is it?
I was having some beers with a friend one time and a young(er) lady walked by with one of those oversized lids - straight-brimmed with the stickers still on. He proceeded to pull it off of her head and put a 'V' curve in it. I don't think he would have gotten a stronger reaction from somebody had he kicked a pregnant lady in the belly - she absolutely lost it.
|
The stupid "keep the sticker on" thing is driving me nuts as well. Damn punks..
|
I heard "hat" and got immediately reminded of Team Fortress 2.
Anyways, this seems to be an interesting fashion trend, though I'm so removed from the rest of the world that I have yet to see a widespread example of it.
Back in my old high school, hats were against the school dress code, so I often wasn't able to examine any fashion trends for headgear.
|
yea this trend is pretty douche. I make my own hats with paint markers on trucker hats. I do graffiti type writing and/or characters.
|
The worst is when you're sitting beside someone on a sunny afternoon at a baseball game and the reflection off their fucking backwards hat stick is shining in your eye throughout the game. FFFUUUUU.
