I am not a great poster, and not much of a contributor to Teamliquid. I did at most a couple translations back in the day my last being when July finally got the golden mouse. And generally I admit my posting history is really bad.
As SC2 announcement came and brought influx of new users, I felt as though the TL that I first known when I joined died. I do know many positive things came from SC2 such as Day9 TV, TL becoming bigger than ever with their own HQ, etc.
Yet... I feel as though the general quality has gone down. Enough to make a bad poster even like me cringe sometimes.
Therefore I ask the moderators for another purge!

I agree completely. The posting quality went way up the last time there was a purge. I think a new one would really help the environment in General and Starcraft 2 in particular.

TL is such a fantastic community, and things like this are completely necessary to maintain some form of integrity.
Now if only we could get an exterminatus on the General forums...

Back to lurking, but lurking GOOD posts.
Although, the highlighted posts in SC2 strategy seemed to have upped the quality a little bit, in a subconscious or conscious attempt for people to try to get that kind of prestige also.

Everyone loves the purge, but everything goes back to normal after about a week. Mods are banning like 20 people a day already these days.

(i cant remember what year that was) and back then i couldn't post half the shit i can now. i think i've been banned once on this account (if any mod can pm me, and help me get back my account that i used on tl.net years ago, i'd love you forever) for posting a shitty one-liner in a live report thread for idra vs jinro, haha. the slow decline in posting quality is unavoidable once many people start posting on the board. everyone remember when /b/ was actually original? and everyone lurked /b/ with photoshop open so the epic threads were full of original content? go on /b/ now. forced memes and reposts all day. popularity makes everything shitty (even things that were good, /b/ and teamliquid for example) which can easily be chalked up to the fact 50% of humans alive have under a 100 iq.
p.s not to say that teamliquid completely sucks now, but any mod, knows deepdown in his heart, the forums aren't anything like they were years ago. its a damn shame.

Purge? That sounds a little extreme. A dozen users are banned on a daily basis. The moderator staff is huge now.
Those purges took place when the internet, TL, was a much smaller place. Now that TL is sponsored, and is the forerunner in an exploding scene, a purge sounds like pretty much the worst idea.
Maybe they worked in the past, but they certainly aren't the future. Think crusades. I think the current system works. Banlings are here for us.

If we somehow removed all the content that added literally nothing of value or interest, TL threads would be 1/4th the size and 100x better quality reading. I share the same view as you that someone dumping the unorganized contents of their brain RAM (particularly if someone else already said exactly the same thing) is just as bad as (or worse than) any other offense that happens.

And reason's like this are exactly why we need another one. For people asking what is a purge, just think about what the word means.
It's just a more devoted effort to cleaning up shitty posters I suppose, which the mods seem to doing a pretty good job of now a days. However putting a title of something, and fear into people's hearts is always nice.

I too support the idea of a purge - post-sc2 posting was much more...wonderful than its current state.
