(Good title, weak tale btw )
So today I decided to dress up all nice, because I wanted to. I wore some jeans, a button down shirt and decided to top it all off with a nice blazer I bought the other day. I go to school and all is well, I guess. Everyone looks at me like I'm some sort of weirdo dressing up all nice just to go to a Macroeconomics and Perspectives of Business & Society class, but I felt comfortable and fucking sexy (I'm humble, aren't I?). I can safely say I was the most well dressed person in the room even including the professors.
After class, I stick around and talk to a couple of friends and then decide to go back home. I live off campus and I pass by the biggest indoor mall here in NJ on my way home from school every day, so I decided to go shopping today.
In every. fucking. store. I went to, I had someone ask me "Do you work here?" Holy shit did it get annoying as hell. Since when does nicely dressed person = employee? Is it really that hard to believe someone cares about the way they look? ._. I lost count at about 19 "Do you work here?" questions. I didn't even bother counting the people that didn't even bother asking if I worked at the store or not. That would more than double the number of people that bothered me while I was just trying to do some damn shopping. I'm also pretty sure there were at least 4 people that didn't believe me when I said I didn't work there since they kind of stomped off all mad.
I think the lesson here is don't go shopping while dressed up. Next time, I think I'm going to wear sweats and a plain white t-shirt while I go shopping. Maybe then no one will bother me.

Waiters dress up nicely too, you know.

I was nowhere near a restaurant though ._.
I was in a department store shopping for a new shirt.

At some stores, if you are dressed cheaply/not very nice, then the staff won't give you quite as much attention because they figure they won't make much of a sale from you. If you walk in looking rich, then you get waited on hand and foot. Keep in mind this is only at some stores. It'd be an unfair generalization otherwise.

It means you dressed up like someone who works at Gap or Polo Ralph Lauren?

Pics please so we can see this suave looking mister.

I think the jeans + shirt is the most store-work fitting combination. If you were dressed nicely, but in suit, people wouldn't make that assumption,

This has happened to me when I'm walking around some clothing stores.. @_@ I'm like, "My clothing looks nothing like the stuff in this store... <_<" xD

Hm my friend was buying his coat in the winter and first he asked a well known-celebrity guy if he works there and could help him. The guy was very polite and not mean at all regarding his status, only laughed a bit and said he is sorry, he doesn't work there.

the jeans were what ratted you out. if you really want to be sharp then dont wear jeans man. Suit up!
Your a student people can think you work at a mall selling clothes. Get over it.

Next time just say yes and add that the store is currently giving out massive discount if you buy more than 500 bucks. Then you have them choose the expensive shits, walk them to the counter, tell them you'll brb and leave and enjoy the embarrassment from a far corner ...

That happened to me only I was just wearing a polo, and 3 different people asked me if i worked at the store (1 lady asked me to use my phone so i pulled out my cell phone and extended it to her and she was like :O and then was like oh i thought you worked here). From that day forward I understood what it meant to wear a polo and the power and responsibilities of wearing one.
Also I wore that same polo to homecoming and a bunch of girls loved me down of the floor. true story
