An amazing panorama of one of mankind's greatest works of art. There are some minor odd details with the composition but it's still breathtaking.

Btw. why were so many people in the old days naked? oO well, if you go way way back humans were in rags because there probably weren't many artisans except basic leatherworkers. if you look up the victorian or elizabethan times they were incredibly repressive, and those times still influence us to where we stand to some degree today. maybe they just weren't as ashamed as we are now? as well: artists often wanted to describe humanity in different forms, I suspect your example and others are good examples of artists wanting to show humanity in its most base and essential form, uninhibited and unchanged by its evolution technologically and socially. just an off-hand guess though edit: took out some annoying idks

Btw. why were so many people in the old days naked? oO Why have I never asked that question? I don't think people wore undergarments back then, so they'd have robes on, but they wouldn't go out in public nude. I'd like to add another question for the scholars out there. Did people really look that fat in the past? The people are all muscular but they have a lot of fat on them. I understand fat was attractive as it showed wealth, but really...? showing god with a beer belly? I can't really understand the art either, so it isn't doing anything for me. Cool technology.

The paintings almost never represent common people, why would you ever get that idea? Obviously nudity was frowned upon in those times but those represented in the paintings are usually celestial beings. The musculature and nudity are just like symbols of perfection.

Btw. why were so many people in the old days naked? oO Heh...they weren't. The thing is, Ancient Greek artists, as part of their general ideas about aesthetics, had an obsession with the 'ideal form' and proportions of the human body. Thus, there are many Greek sculptures and paintings of naked human figures (usually male, though not exclusively) intended to show the ideal proportions and the perfection associated with it. This is by no means the only type of art the Greeks created; but many of the very best and most prominent artists created works of this type, and these works constantly survived disproportionately (it's worth keeping in mind that the copying of famous or well-regarded art was very, very common in the ancient world; so the more popular a work was, the more it was copied, and the more chance it has of surviving to the present day; in fact, there are many works which we have only in the form of copies today). During the Renaissance, everyone and their brother became obsessed with the classical artists, especially the ancient Greek ones, and also with their aesthetic theories. Recovered Greek and Roman art was all the rage, and everyone wanted it. Artists emulated the technical processes, settings, and mileius of these works, creating mythological-themed work. Doing naked figures demonstrated technical proficiency, and also served to give works the 'classical' look prized at the time. Nude figures thus came back into prominence with a vengeance at this time, and artists used them frequently, going even to rather absurd lengths to include them. There's more that could be said, but I think these works speak for themselves. Domino Gloria.

Note there aren't really any naked women in old sculptures. and one of the popes in the 1600s thought it was a good idea to start covering up the art of these masters with fig leaves O_o its also nice to think that whole continents were conquested just so The Church could just convey how great god is. Just think of how many people died for each painting lol
