Greetings TL,

Today, I come with you asking for advice and feedback. I'm about to buy a mousepad because I have been lacking one for some time. I just moved into a new apartment about a week ago and still haven't had time to furnish the place fully. As it stands, I have no chairs/table yet and it really SUCKS for gaming to play on the floor hunched over. I started getting over the awkward feeling on my hands and the cramps in my wrists from the positioning, but found a bigger problem.

In this position, my mouse control has simply gone to shit. I mean its completely gone. I can't even get my boxes to draw in the same spots over and over again, its random and I have to pretty much guess where my selection box will pop up. I discovered its because of grooves on the floor where the optical mouse "jumps" very badly and sometimes won't read my slight wrist movements at all. This makes control difficult, if not impossible currently. I believe I can eliminate a lot of my problems until I can get furniture by getting a good mousepad.

So my question is: "What kind of mousepad would you prefer to use for SCBW control?"

I'm looking for something fairly affordable ($30-40 mousepads make no sense to me), but that will last me a long while and can actually optimize how my optical mouse reads. I am a high-sensitivity FPS and BW player, so I need a surface that offers great mouse control as well as speed. Any recommendations? I have to walk 4.5 miles there and 4.5 miles back so I'm trying to gather information before I make that journey lol.

Thanks in advance TL!

I reccomend the cheapest one possible. Expesive never means better when it comes to mice and keyboards (unless a few macro buttons or a bit of grip is worth the absurd increase in price to you), don't be such a stupid consumer that you fall into the trap of buying overpriced mouse pads.
Why would I play sctoo when I can play BW?

Well as I stated earlier, I'm not looking to spend a lot. Anything above even $10 for a mousepad seems ridiculous to me since its not really that huge of a piece of a gaming setup unless you're in a special situation like mine.

I guess a wrist rest would be necessary for my awkward positioning, but I'm looking to see what kind of surface would be best for sensitive mice (and offer good control) as well as if I should go with metal/plastic/rubber.

I also am looking for specific examples since I'm literally looking to go get this within the next hour or so.

^ LOL , I use a rocketfish double sided mousepad, it was cheap and just as good as like one of the expensive double sided mouse pads IMO... one side = Speed , other side = Control

Just get something nice that's going to last for a while and is easily available to you. QCK pads were pretty cheap last time I checked, and are available most places.
If you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all.

yep, get a steelseries qck variant, they're great quality for their price and you can find them in various flavors and prices

i have a qck as well. decent mousepad for the price and very durable. after about 6 months of almost constant use its still in good condition, mind you the edges are becoming a little frayed. i think it will last me another 6-10 months. not bad for the $20 i paid

it might depend on the mouse you're using. there are different pads that are supposed to be designed for types of mouse; optical, ball, laser.
ordinarily if you have a ball mouse, a cloth pad is recommended, but cloth pads can also work for laser and optical.
i have a laser mouse and i've had really good experience with 4g by steelseries; to give you an idea of the friction, it's almost like playing ice hockey with my mouse. i just find it really pleasant to use. it has a bunch of tiny reflective bumps that reduces friction and the reflection also allows the laser to get a better read. i've read that optical mice experience a lot of skips on the pad, so i'd only recommend it if you have a laser mouse.
around 20 bucks

razer sphex, or razer mantis speed are more then good.
I've tried almost everything on the market and these two pads are the best for their cheap prize! (at least imo)

I'd recommend you a cloth pad over any other surface for your characteristics.

Your characteristics (that I understood from your opening post):
1- Sensitive with your wrist
2- Are looking for a mousepad that boosts your control
3- Probably don't want to get cold
4- Don't want your optical mouse slip to corners while playing

Features of cloth pads:
1- Even though they are smooth, they provide enough friction to give you decent control boost.
2- Cloth pads don't get your wrist cold, unlike plastic-metal-rubber counterparts. With its ragged surface, friction between wrist-pad will actually warm your wrist up as the game progresses.
3- Cloth pads are actually good with optical/laser sensors.
4- I don't know if they provide extra wrist support, but you probably won't need them with a cloth pad, even with a fingertip grip. But, wrist rest is something you can get with a cheap price.

A particular example for a cloth surface is Steelseries Qck, but i don't know that many models to compare. QCK is just an S class mousepad and has cloth surface.

Did February do it too? I know for a fact that some other Korean on the stream did it before, but I thought it was not February.

Plain white paper taped to a piece of cardboard. don't want to ruin the desk. seriously most mice will do fine on plain white paper. Personally i use a Icemat the glass one becuase the metal mousepads and hard plastic ones were too loud.

If you need something in the meantime, paper works really well.

Lol I was there and I'm 100% certain that Feb did it both times since he is the only one who could pull that sort of thing off convincingly. Everyone thought it was so funny and then this mod with blue font showed up and started banning everyone...

wait, what mousepad?

I used to use a mousepad but it had this really annoying gel wristrest so I just stopped using a mousepad altogether. I find that my cheap, worn-out, 20-year-old IKEA desk works just fine with my intellimouse explorer 3.0. maybe i'd be able to tell the difference if i used a mousepad, but if i can get away feeling just fine without one i might go so far as to say that you'd be wasting your money if you bought an expensive mousepad.

Sorry for the slight bump, but I get a really sore wrist when I'm playing (As my wrist is on the edge of a table), would a cloth mousepad be fine to solve this, or would a gelpad be better suited?

I only ask as I've never really used a mousemat, only a piece of paper .

If it helps - using a logitech MX518.
