Right. So you're probably wondering who I am. I'm certain that if I were you, I would also wonder who I am.
So who am I?
My name is Samuel, and I'm a seventeen-year-old zerg player from Sweden. I'm currently living in Malmö, but will likely move to Stockholm in the next year or so, I'm also a decent guitar player.
That about wraps up the boring part of the introduction, so lets get to the fun stuff!
I'm a computer nerd (duh), and my gaming history includes Warcraft 3, DotA, WoW, HoN and currently SC2. I've only played HoN competitively, in the Dreamhack tournament where we got absolutely smashed by a team who was actually good, FnatiC.MSI.
I've been playing SC2 since halfway threw the beta, but I've only been playing ladder for a few months.
I'd decided before I even started playing that I was going to be Zerg. I had a little bit of knowledge since I have played threw the campain in the original SC, and Zerg just seemed the most appealing to me. Just the idea of over-running someone with a massive blob of genetically enhanced bugs was too good to pass up.
So what is the purpose of the blog? I can hardly brag about how i 0WN Z3H N00B5, so why am I doing this? The reason is quite simple. Every year I go to the Dreamhack festival. I'm going there this summer, and I want to participate in the SC2 tournament, so I set a goal for myself. Before I go to Dreamhack, I'm going to be in Diamond division. Of course my end-goal is #1 Master League, but for now I need an easier goal, so my first step will be to reach Diamond League.
That's where the blog comes in! Here I'll be writing about my progress, how my laddering goes, and how I think I could improve. Every post will be accompanied by a few replays, so you guys can give me constructive criticism on how to improve my play.
Hopefully this will not only help me improve, but also give me some motivation to actually play even when I'm getting blasted into dust and then set on fire. Yes, that is a reference to immortals and colossi, which I really dont like (especially the colossus, yuck).
How do I go about improving my play, I hear you ask. Well, theres a few things I try to do. First, I watch a lot of my own replays. I try to note things I can do better, and try to play better next game. I watch Day[9] Daily and IdrA's stream regularly, and I often download replays from good players and steal their builds (My ZvT is almost a complete rip-off off DIMAGA, with my own version of the late game).
Before I end my introduction, I'm going to explain where I think I stand as a player. You mighty pro's probably have no idea what gold division means skill-wise, so let me enlighten you. I've gotten to the point where I actually start to get it. I have decent attack timings, I'm starting to understand how the matchups work and how I should be playing in different situations (losing my whole fucking base!). My macro is getting better, so I can actually keep my money relatively low. Simply put, my mechanics are beginning to look A-Okay.
Now, let's play some Starcraft!
