Yo, been a long time since my last blog entry but i figured i'd make one today.
Lately i've been playing a lot of SC2 and i've come to the conclusion that i have some kind of problem with my play. Back when i played BW i more or less forced myself to play as fast as i could because it was kind of needed when you played Zerg, shitton of control groups and all that. I brought that habit over to SC2 and i think it's affecting my play, i forget to build stuff, get supply blocked, ignore sccouting information just so i can keep spamming useless actions such as flickering through control groups. I do this subconsciously mind you, if i go into a game trying to just stay calm and not spam i can keep it up until 15/18supply or something, at that point i start to get restless and begin fucking around again.
I have struggled with this since i first started playing SC2 but i can not for the life of me get over that shit. Whenever i hear people offer coaching, advice and what not i always think to myself "wow, that's cool, maybe i could finally get out of plat with a few hints here and there" but in the end i always chalk my problems down to this "fundamental flaw" of mine, how can i ever learn proper strategy when i can't even focus on keeping calm and just play the game?
Has anyone else experienced this problem? how did you tackle it? did you ever get over it? I've been playing pretty much nonstop since the beta and i'm still in plat ffs.
Any kind advice is appreciated!
Oh btw. i'm planning on continuing my second part of my "japan blog" i have a shitton of pictures to upload

whats was your apm in bw? iccup high?
|
was C- in ICCUP, was around 150-180apm.

Considering how diamond in sc2 is only like D on ICCUP, I find this hard to believe (also most players in diamond are under 100 apm).

weird, im c- zerg in bw but im still stuck in diamond. ._.

If you're playing too fast try smoking a bowl and playing I guess
-e- or play with just mouse for a while. You won't be able to spam like that
|
If you are C- with 150-180 apm, and you cant get out of platinum, its because blizzard is holding you back. Your gameplay means you are good enough already (unless you only cheesed in BW)
If you play more, you will be promoted guaranteed....
C- zerg stuck in diamond means nothing. Masters isn't as easy as it seems =/
edit: their rating system is completely hidden. theres no way to know your actual skill unless you have 0 bonus pool in masters. their system sucks.

100 apm in sc2 doesn't equel 100 apm in sc1, i suppose you know that.
just focus more on the strategy and pay attention to the fucking game. i hate people that want to become faster just for the sake of it and do not use the increased speed to do something useful with it :D.

Of course, I'm referring to APM in sc1 terms. You can easily get into diamond with just 60 APM if you don't waste any actions in clicking mindlessly.

Let me just reiterate, i'm in no way trying to spam for the sake of having high apm, it's just the way it is, i seriously can't stop it, if i could i'd love to be around 60-70apm consistently while being able to focus purely on the game.
I guess i could just mass-game and eventually get promoted but the thing i really want is just to get rid of this habit and be able to just play normally.

I suffer from similar problems- a lot of times I just have too much APM for my own good, carried over from my iCCup days (O how I miss them. Blizzard needs a CL). It's not a bad thing- just put it to use. Whenever I'm waiting to place a pool or hatch, I just watch my scouting drone and run it around looking for stuff. then when X mins come I place my Y or build a Z. A lot of times I just needlessly cycle through my hotkeys in early-mid game when I have nothing to do, but I'm usually concerned once I start doing that because in BW there was ALWAYS more to be doing, and I'm beginning to notice more I can be doing in SC2. Course, I've only had SC2 since last Monday (43-28 plat zerg). Everything with a grain of salt mate GLHF, and if you play a lot, I'd fucking love a practice partner, my next stop is the practice partner thread. EDIT: I figure I should have told you my apm, I'm usually around 250 BW APM, I don't even care about my APM in SC2, it's so worthless

You should watch your own reps in FPview, you'll see what you do right and wrong. Eventually you'll notice your wrong patterns while you game, then it's easier to fix your play. It helped me alot in BW.

This is what i'd like to do, but more often than not i just lose track of my resources and macro whenever i get into microing units, but it's nice to hear about other people with similar issues and especially people that managed to get over it somewhat

Hmm that's actually not a bad idea, i'll give it a try, but as with every other advice i fear that i'll just locate the problem, try to fix it but then just end up in this spamming-rut of mine again.
Thanks for the advice so far, guys.

Thanks for the advice so far, guys. Y'know, I've come up with a fantastic fucking exercise for some of my lower ranked friends to keep up with their scouting that I'm really excited about. Fucking say aloud what it is your scouting drone (or ovie) sees, and say what it means to your game. Out fucking loud. IDC if you're in a Journalism class like I am right fk'ing now. Every minute in game time say what you know and what you plan on doing aloud. This reminds you to stay out of the dark if you go maybe 4 minutes without any information. As far as keeping up with your minerals/gas/supply, those don't mean shit anyway unless you use them right. Don't get in my old BW habits of, "Oh I'll build a spine crawler once he starts moving out", because the maps are so fucking small it's already too fucking late. Once I started stating my scouting information ("he's massing a bunch of juicy bio behind his ramp), I started saying "Well, building a last minute spine crawler didn't work, so I'll build 2-3 and use lings to backstab". Play around with the game until you find your groove. Just know what you're up against. Vs. P I'm constantly running zlings around looking for a proxy 4 gate pylon. constantly. I usually make 4, 1 at each watch tower, 1 outside his ramp, and 1 running around constantly. I'm getting a little carried away, but I've tried this and it really helps flush out your game plan, helps refine your "gamesense", and really can tack down the source of your problems. Anyways, I got a little carried away and made one of those god awful blocks of text, but I hope maybe some of this can help you
