this five-track EP plays like one epic suite (you should really try listening to it straight through). sounds to me like an ode to winter / getting caught in a snowstorm. eerie synths everywhere, driven by percussion and sort of lilting vocals. shoegaze influences. "They Will Grow" and "Set Sail" set the mood for "New Space", where this EP really takes off
in the vein of: M83, Grouper, Yeasayer, Telefon Tel Aviv, Sigur Ros
the one item I'm trying to pick up in anticipation of spring: a varsity jacket (aka baseball jacket). I've had a surprisingly tough time finding any without obnoxious branding (for example). the few worthy options I've turned up:
BB Baseball Jacket: $168 is a right price, and despite this being BB the fit looks pretty good (BB recently decided to stop cutting all its clothes for 70-year-old fat cats). as basic as it gets, which I think is perfect for a staple like this. you're definitely going to want to pick out the "fleece" logo embroidered on the front though. few things fuck up a badboy look more than sheep swaddled in finest fabric.
Golden Bear x Unionmade Varsity Jacket: $198. the buttons are v.cool, also kind of dig the stitching around the pockets. the twowool versions are more wintery. both are also really attractive, but much more expensive.
Temple of Jawnz Winter Varsity 2010-11: ToJ is a garage-scale made-to-order outerwear shop that conducts business mainly by email and through its threads at styleforum and superfuture (read more about the brand). pros: custom made means a perfect fit and your pick of colors; jacket's insulated so you can get some winter wear out of it; ToJ has a ton of hype around it, which must mean something?. con: $350 (which is fucking expensive, but actually not outrageous considering custom made and also-pricey competition)
Stewart & Strauss jackets: sort of cheesy, wholesaler-type online shop selling generic high school letterman-esque jackets for $170 plus customization costs. fit isn't going to be that super (though the tall sizes are promising) but the myriad of custom lettering options is a big draw. something like this is tempting.
4. Skateistan
When I'm skating on the streets, I can feel people questioning my right to skate. Their opinions are meaningless to me.
The New Division's music is about as original as their name (not original) but it's also pretty dang good. satisfying throwaway dance-y disco beat synthpop that's just barely more goth than sweet 16 party (so you won't be embarrassed to put this on blast next time you have a bunch of drunk friends over). every track is solid but the real bangers are "Festival" and the single "Starfield".
in the vein of: New Order, Delphic, Moss of Aura, Hot Chip, The Killers?
this is a friend's cool little music blog. just a couple posts every few days, and always something good — she'll keep you in the loop on what's the buzz in indiemusic + some electro from time to time too. perfect if (like me) you shy away from most mp3 blogs because they post 9000000 shit songs every day (and how're you supposed to know what's actually good?)
I think these kids are pretty efamous by now, but just in case: check em out. especially above, singing Ariel Pink's groovy "Round and Round". it's really sweet how into the music they get. kids are cool.
As an addendum to the Osirian Portal clip, you should also check out from Dragon Gate USA, featuring more internationally known wrestler Akebono.
Of course, if that style of comedy wrestling is what you are interested into you should check out chikara as they have been head-to-head with PWG for best federation of the year for the last 3 years. PWG is where you want to head if you are more into "it's always sunny in philadelphia" style promos.
I totally knew you were going to post Davendra Banharst video. Personally I love his music and I totally see someone as awesome as him with a girl like that.
I saw it on NOWNESS.
Edit: I kept the "awesome post as always" because it usually takes me a couple of days to go thru everything but I just had to post that comment :p

You know, you're right. he's an accomplished musician and I'm sure a pretty big stud...I think what threw me is just that she's so curvy, I'd expect to see her with a much less scrawny guy
I am so drunk right now but this is great. Also it's the first time I've never heard of the posted album so I'm really fucking excited to listen to it after I'm done listening to this Washed Out.

Washed Out is great music for being drunk. but lately every time I get wasted I've been playing this video over and over. give it a shot:

yes! I always notice that drumbeat now (since reading about it). for example
edit: your soundalikes are all good, I never thought to compare "Two Weeks" with that rap song despite knowing both...

Off the top of my head, "Love's Easy Tears" by the Cocteau Twins, the second half of "Strings" by Asobi Seksu, the second half of "Looking for a Rainbow" by Talulah Gosh, "Vox Humana" by Deerhunter, "Just Like Candy" by the Jesus and Mary Chain (along with a few more songs off Psychocandy), "Eighties Fan" by Camera Obscura, "Gentle Sons" by the Pains of Being Pure at Heart, and "What's a Girl to Do?" by Bat for Lashes all use the "Be My Baby" beat - and I at the very least love all these songs. The beat seems to announce a splendourous, nostalgic puppy love from the first snare, if that makes sense.
"Shine Like a New Pin" by Camera Obscura is also a total homage to "Take the Skinheads Bowling" by Camper Van Beethoven, but considering the pun that's probably intentional.
Oh yeah, there's also "Canon in D" by Pachelbel. That's one one-hit-wonder that arguably never left us.
I was looking at that awareness test thing, counted the passes right, but in the middle I thought to myself "wasn't the black team also just 4 to begin with?". Did not notice that one of them was a moonwalking bear tho...
I remember last time when you showed us everything is a remix! :D Was actually watching it today since I was cleaning out my bookmarks! There was a really awesome Wool Baseball Jacket from Express that I was thinking about getting, but apparently it's sold out now. I agree that they are pretty cool though
man I've asked a stranger to take my picture so many times...never once considered the "grab and run" risk. I guess it's lower now that digital cameras aren't expensive.
Have you heard this mashup of Crave You and 'Paris' by Friendly Fires? It is absolutely dynamite, and my favorite iteration of either song. Just thought you might enjoy since you posted the original.

pretty cool actually, these songs do sound quite similar so they go together pretty naturally. thanks for sharing!
Friendly Fires has a new album soon I think — I'm excited!

I don't get it. Tried to google around but couldn't find an explaination. I know nothing about philosophy.
It's a play on the phrase "to put the cart before the horse," or to do things out of order.
Rene Descartes is a prominent rationalist philosopher. He said "cogito ergo sum" ("I think therefore I am"), which is rational philosophy's "Love Me Do."
The topic is about a guy who thinks that prominent pornstar Lexi Belle is in his class. He wants to know what he should do.
Someone says that he should ask Lexi Belle, on the Internet, if she likes philosophy and if so which philosophers. Then he should go up to this girl in his class and namedrop those philosophers, whereby he'll better facilitate the achievement of orgasms with this attractive pornstar's doppelganger (if not the pornstar herself, as this plan's success hinges on the lemma that this girl and Lexi Belle both like the same philosophers and are as open-uhmminded sexually).
Someone else responds to this idea that this is "putting Descartes before the whores."

"Just like Candy" = "Just like Honey." "Cut Dead" and "Sowing Seeds" are the other tracks on the album. I came up with pretty much the same list except I haven't heard of Gosh and I don't hear it in "Strings". "Eighties Fan" is the first song I heard this beat in and for a long time I thought Bat for Lashes had ripped them off.
What's your opinion on Deerhunter? I liked Cryptograms but hated Microcastle and everything after. They're actually a pretty terrible band I realized.
