this five-track EP plays like one epic suite (you should really try listening to it straight through). sounds to me like an ode to winter / getting caught in a snowstorm. eerie synths everywhere, driven by percussion and sort of lilting vocals. shoegaze influences. "They Will Grow" and "Set Sail" set the mood for "New Space", where this EP really takes off
in the vein of: M83, Grouper, Yeasayer, Telefon Tel Aviv, Sigur Ros

the one item I'm trying to pick up in anticipation of spring: a varsity jacket (aka baseball jacket). I've had a surprisingly tough time finding any without obnoxious branding (for example). the few worthy options I've turned up:
- BB Baseball Jacket: $168 is a right price, and despite this being BB the fit looks pretty good (BB recently decided to stop cutting all its clothes for 70-year-old fat cats). as basic as it gets, which I think is perfect for a staple like this. you're definitely going to want to pick out the "fleece" logo embroidered on the front though. few things fuck up a badboy look more than sheep swaddled in finest fabric.
- Golden Bear x Unionmade Varsity Jacket: $198. the buttons are v.cool, also kind of dig the stitching around the pockets. the two wool versions are more wintery. both are also really attractive, but much more expensive.
- Temple of Jawnz Winter Varsity 2010-11: ToJ is a garage-scale made-to-order outerwear shop that conducts business mainly by email and through its threads at styleforum and superfuture (read more about the brand). pros: custom made means a perfect fit and your pick of colors; jacket's insulated so you can get some winter wear out of it; ToJ has a ton of hype around it, which must mean something?. con: $350 (which is fucking expensive, but actually not outrageous considering custom made and also-pricey competition)
- Stewart & Strauss jackets: sort of cheesy, wholesaler-type online shop selling generic high school letterman-esque jackets for $170 plus customization costs. fit isn't going to be that super (though the tall sizes are promising) but the myriad of custom lettering options is a big draw. something like this is tempting.

6. The New Division - The Rookie EP
Stream it free / buy it for $5
The New Division's music is about as original as their name (not original) but it's also pretty dang good. satisfying throwaway dance-y disco beat synthpop that's just barely more goth than sweet 16 party (so you won't be embarrassed to put this on blast next time you have a bunch of drunk friends over). every track is solid but the real bangers are "Festival" and the single "Starfield".
in the vein of: New Order, Delphic, Moss of Aura, Hot Chip, The Killers?
