Hi Guys Its Bordz here. I need a new way to stay motivated at sc2 so I am trying to spice things up a bit through this blog and as of today getting placed in the NA server. So please comment about anything even if its rage at something i post provided it isnt completely destructive and if it feels right i may even expand the scope to involve other issues about my daily life. The TL community is very active so I hope to get some responses
A bit of my sc2 history
Well 1st thing is im in the best country in the world Australia and as a result I am on the SEA sever mostly, although i have been placed in 2v2 and 1v1 on NA. Currently I am only silver level in 1v1 (SEA) but generally i do not play 1v1 as I originally brought sc2 to play with a few mates.
I am a zerg player. Whilst I think there are a few issues with the race I dont feel i am at a good enough level to make any suggestions on changes. i chose zerg initially as I knew they were the hardest race to play effectively from some previous experiance with brood war and as such would progress at a faster rate when i sat down and actually tried to play them.
Currently I think that I am playing below my capacity but this is based on the number of 2v2 games I have played as opposed to 1v1 experiance. At that same note I feel that in 1v1 I should at least be gold (2's i think we should be where we are as my practice partner whilst haing moments of brilliance is pretty average). There is more to this than overestimating my skill but I will get into that later.
Part 1
Cliffs,
Hi guys,
Aus-SEA server
Mainly 2v2, trying to get back into 1v1
Todays NA 1v1 Placement and state of the servers
So the today I did the final 3 placement matches on the NA server for 1v1 (I had previously done 2 matches last year after getting NA access, can't remember the reulsts).
Basically I went 3 for 3 against a bronze, silver and gold leaguers respectively. I just have to say these matches were damned easy. Infact I could not believe how easy they were.
The 1st game was vs a protoss on LT i think (is it the one with the 4 bases, easy expo at ramp and golds at the diagonals?). I opened up with a 15 hatch, 14 pool build, placed a few spines expecting a quick attack as would happen on the sea server but nothing ever came. A few minutes later he finally pushes out with a force made up of sentries, stalkers and zealots. I scouted it and defended it pretty easily with 4 spines 2 queens and quite a few lings. It was over from this point onwards, I had map control had teched to spire and had sniped all of his expo workers with a ling counter attack. He politely said gg and left as I followed my ling attack with a muta attack on his main mineral line.
The second game was against another protoss. I messed the start of thes game up shockingly. Like to the point that i forgot to rally my workers to the mineral line. Next thing i know is that im at 10/10 supply and whilst i overpooled it messed up my game plan to go hatch 1st again( i really want to get this build right). It got me so confused that I had no idea what to do. A few lings revealed that the protoss opponent had gone forge 1st with a few cannons defending his ramp. So i migrated into a roach heavy army. I have no idea how the protoss failed to take advantage of this in someway or another (he didnt even expand esp after forge 1st). However the next thing i know theres DT in my main, hmmm ok, morphed an Ovie and it was easily defended. I counter take out his expo that had finally been built and it was all downhill from here for him. The only other notable is he tried to build DT, a gateway army and voids all from 1 base. I crushed him with mass roach in the end.
The final game was the funnest easily. I love to play against terran, terran is easily the easilest match for lower level zerg who have some idea of timings and what they comprise. It was on scrap station so i opened with 14 pool and went muta bling, built a few spines at the top of my ramp (i had expanded by this time) and wated for the 1st timing push from my opponents 3rax build. his 1st push whilst sizable was easily destroyed becuase well he ran his army to the top of my ramp where my blings were finishing morphing, the army was 50/50 ling/bling. As soon as the blings popped it was all over at teh end there was only 4 maradaurs left which were easten alive by the surviving lings. Basically from this point onwards i just out macroed the terran i was on 3 to his 2. Muta harrass did a lot of damage as the terran whilst having poor macro was greedy and didnt use a scan to see what I had teched to. As such 15 scvs met their untimely demise before i met some resistance. It was during this attack that i noticed he was trying to break down the rocks for the shorter path. This army was larger and mainly comprised of marines but he have maradaurs placed in from and behind his marines, so bascally is looked like a short fat rectangle. All well and good, provided you can have them facing the blings/lings when they move into attack. This just wasn't the case and it was sweet as I saw my blings put a giant hole in the middle of his army with lings mopping up the rest very easily. At this point i sent a ling counter attack into his expo sniped most of his workers and he called it gg.
Cliffs
Won all 3 placement i had left on NA sever
All 3 matches were very easy, 2nd game cause my opponent was pretty bad.
I need to learn the map names.
Post placement discussion
Personaly whilst not impossible to come across it is generally unlikely to face people this bad on the SEA server at slilver and gold respectively (eg they have some game plan for every matchup and can improvise reasonably well) and as such it raises the question (which was brought up in the sc2 general discussion forums the other day). Is the lower leaguers on the SEA server better than the lower leagers on the NA server?
Without a doubt the skill ceiling is higher in the NA server as everyone from SEA can play on that server without long waits at high level diamond/maste so please keep this question in relative context.
