This is what I get for google searching for TL and kotaku a couple times. I feel so immature.
Wtf is that thing anyway? Some ghetto lego-man? What the hell does that even have to do with anything?
This sort of advertisement repulses me from gaming culture and whatever the fuck kind of product they are pushing.
Anyone else think google ads are a total invasion of privacy? I search for a recipe with lemons in it, every ad on every page for the rest of the afternoon is about food. I search the chords for a song I'm learning on guitar, 3 days later I'm still being asked if I want the 3 secrets to becoming a guitar god in minutes. If you use gmail, your incoming and outgoing emails are scanned for keywords, so if you send your mum a recipe for a great tofu kebab you want on your plate next thanks-giving... ads for great local restaurants and award winning 5 star recipes wrap around your inbox for weeks.
I know nobody's reading my emails personally, but I'd still feel a lot better if I just had to put up with generic ads... Y'know for penis pumps or something.
Edit: I go to edit out a spelling error, the ad at the top of TL is for GoogleDocs -_-

I dunno, I do have a pretty serious case of Noob Pwning Syndrome...

If I recall correctly Facebook doesn't use google ads. Facebook uses their own ads that are geared to things you put in your profile. For example, if you change your profile to "you are interested in men", you'll be seeing a lot more different ads.

I don't use Facebook so I wouldn't know but our school did bring in this speaker who talked about how FB ruin people's lives (like their account/picture retention policies, privacy invasions, etc) lol
Anyways...does this even have anything to do with FB? I mean I know FB's is over the top in user privacy but what you're suggesting is that it's all google's fault
Anyways...just use adblock (except on TL of cource lol)

(Thumbs Up) Neighbor likes this.
No but seriously, the ads are annoying but use you can use adblock you know.

Facebook Purity is your friend.
I don't even know why you're looking at Google ads. They're text based and extremely easy to ignore. In any case, ad blockers were invented for a reason. Use them.

It sounds like the problem is smart facebook, not stupid facebook =\

Oh god, this reminds me of the stupid ads I get on Facebook. Usually, I get some fashionable clothes, shoes and crap like that. As if I was interested in crap like that...Why don't I get ads about stuff I'm actually interested in? Some nerd stuff related to SC2 or some sci-fi? So that kinda kills statement Facebook puts in ads which would be based on what people put into their profiles...as they show me stuff I generally hate to the core.

Personally, I can say I don't mind the "invasion of Privacy" (if we assume that this is actually the case) because I would rather be subject to targeted advertising than to random hit-or-miss advertising. The thing is, I'm rarely ever directly affected by ads anyway.
Also, I use adblock pro so I guess it isn't really a problem as it is.

I agree with you.
and, I lol'd hard.
Also the ads are insulting my SC skills.

It's not an invasion of privacy because you willingly give your information to them.

I don't really get ads on facebook that often. I think it's because I gave feedback saying they were offensive regardless of what the ad was about.

if you want a search engine that doesn't track you and forward your search terms to sites, use http://duckduckgo.com/

I like those ads, they're so funny XD
At least the ways they make money off of you don't involve you losing money...

If you want ads about penis pump why dont you write your mam how insecure you feel in bed

Done. Seems pretty sweet, I like how it basically just throws the wikipedia stuff right up at the top, cause that's actually like 80% of what I use google for: getting me to wikipedia pages.
I understand that by using google's free service, I agree that they do whatever they want with the info I give them (that info being the things I search for), I just feel uncomfortable about the way they use it. It feels like there's someone looking over my shoulder, which would anyone uncomfortable, and it's a constant reminder that no matter how secure and private I feel in my room now with the door closed making almost no noise, everything I do is being monitored and recorded. It's unsettling, and I doubt any of you would disagree.

Ads - block them and acquire currency.
