Yesterday I had the chance to play in the Team Liquid Open #9. It was really fun and I actually made it into the Ro8. However as cool as it was to get some points for TSL 3, something else happened... something amazing!
While I sat in my chair waiting for my next opponent I messaged Hot_Bid who is a amazing admin here and i said "hey whats up sexy beast?" he replied "wait for an admin to msg you". So here I am waiting around thinking well I geuss I'll get some scrub like Fakesteve to come help me out here... and then IT HAPPENS.
I get an invite from someone named Rich. I just got chills all of a sudden. Could this be just some random staffer named Rich or was it THE R1CH. This was the point in my life where I the young Starcraft 2 player would meet the wizard and obviously he would take me in as his apprentice and my life would turn awesomer.
First thing I ask is of course "hey are you r1ch?" he replies so casually with "yea thats me". At this point I start just randomly telling him how awesome he is "hey man your like the most amazing computer guy I've ever seen, maybe I could like add you as a friend and if you need anything let me know!" Because of course I know once he adds me and gets to know me, I will begin to learn the trade secrets..
Here is where he teaches me his first lesson, he replies "sure you can add me". At this point I think YES I've made it. I have finally arrived in this blissful magical place. I then sit there trying to find desperately a way to add R1CH to my friends list. However he is only chatting with me at this point. He hosts a game as a referee and I play and I win 2-0 vs. Attero. At this point I realize hey I still haven't figured out a way to add R1CH.
I tell him this "hey so I need your code to add you!" He replies just click on my name and add me! At this point again I the fan was ecstatic and overjoyed. Clearly he would bless me with his friendship. However his first lesson was not so simple. I tried and I tried, just like those 3 pigs in that story to add him with just his name on chat. I TRIED MAN I TRIED. However in the end just like that linkin park song "I tried so hard, but in the end it doesn't even matter".
I couldn't find a way to add him and I was too embarassed to explain to him I couldn't find a way to add him. So clearly his first lesson on my path to gaining special computer abilities is finding a way to add someone via just chatting with them. Also I can now use this strategy with other scrubs who want to add me, but who I dislike. With very little effort on his part R1CH has taught me so much already. I hope someday all of you reading this will understand how awesome R1CH makes the world.
