I'm not gonna lie. I was waiting for the day for him to win an OSL/MSL and bump this thread.

Not really curious about whereabouts of Ma-trash. Contrary to other players involved in scandal, there wasn't single redeeming quality about his participation. Had to post this since surprising number of players seem to feel sympathy.

Man, it feels like it happened such a long time ago but the event was felt uniformly by community as perfect betrayal at the time. Very emotional.

After his fall from grace here as a well-established bookie, nowadays he could probably only find employment under the new don (Z)Action as a mid-level enforcer.

I'd feel more sympathy for some of the other progamers, but not Savior.

Like... how about Yellow? (Z)YellOw[ArnC] didn't throw a single match. He had denied the offer initially. It was found out that he had even told (T)Justin not to get him involved in something like this again. He put a sincere apology up. He still lost his license.

Savior, on the other hand... He's the one who 'recommended' match-fixing to several other progamers. He denied everything at first, claiming that he had not directly approached any of the progamers but just casually suggested it and passed on information. He emphasized that he was not directly involved in the betting, which is why he got an extremely lenient punishment. Unlike the other progamers who had made one terrible mistake, he didn't put up an apology until two months later. He backstabbed his coach - the guy who trusted him until the end and ended up voluntarily resigning and quitting esports. This is the guy who used his own personal money to buy uniforms for his team, btw.+ Show Spoiler +
Coach Cho Kyuu Nam:
Savior plays well in practice, but he never performed when playing in actual games.
He buys a lot of brand items nowadays, maybe his mental state isn't very healthy?
I was thinking this when Investigators started investigating.
When this happened, Savior went on his knees and said.
"Coach, It's really not me. Please believe me"
Savior who was already suffering from his lack of performance was also being swept by this...
So I took him out of the roster, put him on a sick leave and told him to go home and rest.
ON the internet, there are terrible people who are spreading rumors that Savior is the criminal.
Those Fomos bastards even used Savior's silhouette on their pictures.
Things died down when I told everyone that It is 100% not savior and that I will sue anyone who spreads rumors.
When all of this is over, Savior will finally resurrect. Fighting.

Where is there any possibility of redemption here?

I joined Teamliquid just last year but I visit it since 2007 I just used to lurk a lot but I knew the broodwar scene thanks to savior and naturally knew teamliquid by him.

He was my inspiration for play broodwar and love it, just like the way I do it now.

Koreans get butthurt for the slightest of things, i never ever really saw koreans forgiving people for breaking laws no matter how small.

In korea when you do something really embarassing or bad, people tend to go underground. Literally translated 'submerging', they keep to themselves and only keep in touch with family and closest of friends. Given his meteoric fall from grace, i wouldn't be surprised if he has done the same. We probably won't hear anything about this guy for a while longer. Anyways, i don't think he has a future in esports anymore so he'll probably just work on different things.

If he wrote a book I bet it would still sell tonnes! But I think Jaeyoon is the type to be too humiliated to do so. I got the impression he was a good guy and was really suffering with everything in his interviews. Something tells me an in depth version of his side of the story would incur sympathy from me.

Indeed, rich and famous but still wanted more, so tried to drag the sport that got him where he was down into the mud to get it. Truly deserving of sympathy.

I think that's way over-simplification. Wasn't it found out that he was just a go between, not actually involved in rigging matches? Much more, players that were involved were begging him? After reading his interviews, I got the impression he had some kind of inferiority complex. He was always talking about how he wanted to be cool and especially in his interview with boxer, they both related to the nerd to famous impact on their lives. For a kid that age, hanging out in the wrong crowds might have seemed pretty cool. I mean how many people think it's cool that Rekrul plays poker with shady characters (though of course he does so for fun, not to take their money)? It seems to me Savior was a person desperate for approval, which fueled his desire to win, but also caused him to do things he really shouldn't.

Of course he shouldn't have done it. Of course players shouldn't have asked him to do it. But dangerous people can be very influencing on one's behaviour... You get involved with that kind of stuff, it's hard to get out, just like Jackie Chan in Shinjuku Incident ^^

I 100% agree with his ban from playing in the leagues. I'm one of his biggest fans and I really liked him and was affected emotionally by his games. Seeing him slump was really depressing. Seeing him win one game or show good play in a game he lost really got me excited. He was a good player, and nobody can deny that. I think he wasn't a bad person, which could be debated. I think punishing him as a deterrent to future players who might think about it is also important. I'm not a Crim major so I don't know how effective deterrents are in a situation like this (I guess they're probably useless, given the deterrent of being shunned was already obvious), but to do nothing would have at very least been even worse for the image of eSports. However, I think only a few months later, we've forgiven the scene and people know this is just something all sports go thru at some point on their way to becoming something monstrously popular.

edit: not to mention if anything caused his slump, don't you think it might have been guilt for what he'd done? Maybe, maybe not, but it's something that'd be really interesting to read about if it were the case A sort of moral tale about how doing bad things destroys one from the inside before you're even caught. So yeah, don't be so simple minded.

All I have to say is that any future tournament (foreign or Korean) that would allow the match-fixers to participate will immediately lose all legitimacy in my eyes. These guys don't deserve to make any more money/fame off of Starcraft.

Hwasin is widely considered in Korea one of the most attractive progamers. Girls used to go CRAZY for him.

I was really shocked to hear the matchmaking scandal and that Savior my favorite progamer (forever and ever) was one of the masterminds behind.

Haha, I feel sorry for the guy that he gets this much shit over entertainment. I can understand why he big wigs would be really pissed but the regular fans? Chill. It is just entertainment.

But gawd...this thread made me watch all of his highlight videos and get chills all over seeing him organize the barbaric zerg in such a well coordinated manner and hearing all the cheers and seeing the large crowds. That was the Golden Age of Brood War for me :D
