This strategy works really well on this map. We've done it at least 6-7 times and won every time. Of course it's probably a terrible strategy, but it's really fun.

On the map monsoon, use 2 terran, 1 protoss.
The protoss goes for an early expand and constantly makes phoenix of off 2 bases. (usually 2 stargates is good until the 14-15 minute mark).
One of the terran goes mass tank.
Now here's the fun part, make a proxy planetary at the choke point. Don't build it too far forward. You want them to attack into the choke.
Using the mass phoenix to attack and have air dominance and constantly harass. I usually reccomend waiting until you have about 8 phoenix because after you lose the element of suprise you lose the huge advantage. Always go for zerg first. They are the most dangerous in the late game so hit them first. Usually when i have 8 phoenix i can take out all of their queens and take out about 16 workers, then go overlord hunting. Don't stay more than 30 seconds in the base and then hit the next guy. Hit any terran next. They like to make turrets. Don't be suprised if you can't do anything to the terran. Finally hit the protoss. Protoss probably won't have a forge and you can enjoy taking out all of their workers. Once they build static anti-air, then go around harassing.
The 2 terran need to hold the choke as long as possible. Eventually you will probably be maxed. At this point terran can do for high tech stuff like thors.
Making a sensor tower is good too, so you know when to pull scvs to repair. The tanks though are what hold it off and since they are unlikely to go mass air because of the phoenix you can just sit there.
Usually after i'm maxed as protoss I go either carriers or high templar depending on our opponents. Also you should be upgrading protoss air throughout the game.
Anyway, enjoy this strategy. This choke on this map is so tiny it's funny. This strategy doesn't work very well without phoenix, but i'm only mid diamond so I don't really know anything.

interesting strategy, sounds cool I guess I'll try it out with some friends

Er, off 2 bases you can support 4 stargates of phoenix.
Also... =\ What if they just mass expand themselves.

I prefer the proxy hatch into queens and spine crawlers =D Basically you build a hatch in their base or right outside, and spawn a queen and drones/lings and spread creep so they cant build cannons etc. Very funny ^^

The map only supports 2 expansions per person.

Once you are fully saturated then yeah, you need like 3-4 stargates ( i'm usually constantly using chrono on the stargates). Usually with my extra minerals i'm making some zealots and sticking them next to the planetary in case it falls. The thing is you can't mass expand on this map. Each player only has 1 expansion + 2 side golds, but you can't really hold it against the phoenix harass unless you make tons of turrets everywhere. When they do take the gold, just kill all of their workers and use drops to take out any buildings. Since they don't have air it's really hard for them to hold it.
Killing zerg is really the most important part of this strategy. Corrupters -> brood lords absolutely destroy this idea. If you are going against like 3 zerg then i really doubt this strategy will be effective at all.

haha yeah, we were just pretending we were doing the funday monday 1 unit strategy. I said phoenix, one guy said tanks and the other guy said planetary fortress. It worked surprisingly well so we kept doing it. Only works on this map though.

I almost forgot to mention that I like to transition into mothership. Plant your mothership on hold position over the planetary fortress and enjoy.

random update. I have found once your opponent has spent significant resources in turrets, spore crawlers, etc, switch to carriers. Unless they have specifically gone viking already (which is not a good idea against phoenix) then basically you get clear skys for your carriers to just go kill stuff. Don't lose your carriers.
|
this will die to pretty much all early pushes. which are the dominant strategy in team games. so....
|
So, I've done this several times again (with 2 bronze players as partners) and still have yet to lose a game.
Switching to carriers and adding a mothership is definitely the best way to guarentee victory. Slowly use your carriers and mothership to pick off their units. Since you spent only a little money on the 2-3 PF's in the middle of the map, you should have tons of resources available the entire game.
