My 2v2 partner and I are terrible. Really, really terrible.
I've never taken the time to go through SC2's arbitrary ladder system, but I've played quite a fair share of games - at least, enough to know where I stand. Personally, I'd rank myself in the high platinum, low diamond-ish range. As for my partner, a solid platinum. But together, we play like a couple of bronzes. In real life, we're practically best friends, but you'd never know it, because on battle.net, our teamwork is completely out of sync.
Is it frustrating? A little bit. Sometimes I cry a bit to myself after losing a game, knowing how I could completely destroy both of the opponents in a 1v1. But we stay 2v2 partners despite our consistent losses because we love playing with each other. We love experimenting with things like sharing control of units, flooding the map with 200/200 zerglings, or 2gating games, just to see how much anger we can evoke from the opponents.
Because at the end of the day, it's really, just a game. You play to have fun. Yes, as with all things, sometimes you may be frustrated or angry, or want to rage quit, but there really should be no excuse for the bm (especially since there has been so much of it on battle.net lately). Simply put, don't play a game if you want to be a douchebag. Play if you want to have fun.
But enough of the banter. Here's the story.
My 2v2 partner -let's call him George- and I met purely because of Starcraft. I've been playing it practically all my life, but never really knew of anyone else who did, so I kept it to myself. Then just a year ago, I met a friend who told me he was a SC player. I almost fell off my seat. I didn't realize anyone else even knew about the game, much less played it(Keep in mind, this was before all the SC2 hype). And through this friend, I met more and more people who shared an enthusiasm for gaming. It was like I had discovered a hidden network of amazing nerd friends. I finally had friends to talk to about my enhancement shaman with or complain to about my terribly low APM. I swear, I had a mini nerdgasm.
But I digress. Back to "George". We always knew of each other, but were never really friends. I played against him once in Starcraft1, but never again until SC2 came out. It started off as us just playing together every so often, just because we always saw each other online. And then we realized we had a class together and everyday, our conversations would be about starcraft. Why? Because that was the only thing we knew of each other. Besides us sharing a common interest in starcraft, we were complete strangers.
But eventually we got out of our pure geek phase and to sum it all up, he's pretty much one of my best guy friends now... Sorry to be anticlimactic, hehe. So... yea, it may be just a game, but god damn, it's an amazing game. Without it, I would have never gotten as close as I am to him right now. So why did I put you through the torture of reading all of that? =P Partially because I wanted to introduce myself to you fellow TL-ers (Hi!), but mostly because I wanted to be able to share this with you guys...
One day in class, he starts doodling intently on a piece of paper. 15 minutes later, he gives me this. + Show Spoiler +
Despite how it looks on the picture, it's actually pretty small. Roughly about 3x3 inches in size. But nevertheless, I replied with a high-pitched "AWWWWWWWW" and a huge smile. I still have the drawing (somewhere) in my notebook right now. How do I return the favor? With this. It's incomplete, but you get the jist of it. + Show Spoiler +
The moral of the story? If you do something nice for a girl, she'll return the favor 10fold. If you learn anything from this tediously long blog post, let it be that (=
EDIT: My 2v2 partner saw this post and was a bit angry that I didn't give his name credit. His name is actually Raymond. RAYMOND. There, stop complaining, ya ungrateful fool ^^
Maybe I'm a sucker for romantic stories; but this is raelly really cute ^^ Now don't you go making this for him and the next day falling for a criminal! Oh, and keep us posted on the reaction EDIT: Oh, and now the big question is; is it ZNF?

LOL!
If only things worked out that way eh? It'd be soooo convenient wouldn't it?
Psst...my name is Kevin.
And by the way...George isn't your 2v2 partner right? I thought your partner was that guy you get into a bajillion arguments with over the dumbest things....>.>
Please go and clone yourself. A girl that plays starcraft or returns kind gestures is becoming harder and harder to find these days. A girl that does both is kind of a unicorn... Very cute story btw!

That's the video I got my name from! My Tauren's name used to be bebexhearts (don't laugh I was in middle school!) and one of my friends said my name reminded her of the little kid, so voila (=
I have no idea who Smix is, but I think I should take it as a compliment? I'm surprised that venonium even knew that I was friends with ZNF. Tehehe.
lol ur story is exact same as mine... My best friend is someone I met and started hanging out with purely because of SC. At work someone asked me if I played any games I said I play this game called Starcraft every now and then (this was before I was serious bout being good or cared or anything)
His sister overheard me and was like "omg you have to meet my brother he plays it like 8 hours a day" lmao instant best friends... then I really got into SC after that.
I've also ended up meeting a girl in person that I met on bnet through gaming together. Eventually we became friends and talked every day and ended up meeting in person and actually had a little "thing" for a while. Oh SC what would we do without you

not get so many B's and C's in school is what i would do
Did anyone else read this as the other side of this site's many "girl blogs"?
I can almost hear "George"/Raymond furiously typing one of those up about the girl who's perfect for him but doesn't see him as anything more than a friend =P
Whether or not that's actually the situation is irrelevant imo, because this blog is 3x better when blindly assuming that's true.
I can relate to the 2s randomly going horribly. I've played with some amigos where we screw around with odd strategies like 1gate FE into void rays etc and lose all over the place. Got put way below where we are in 1v1 because of it, and now if I just 4gate it wins 100% of our matches. Trying to win with only infested terrans, on the other hand, is just so much more rewarding that I can't help but trying =)
If I drew my 2v2 partner a teddy bear I think he would have the same reaction (and we're both dudes!). I can't say he would make a giant bear in return, but he recently started casting games and might do one of mine
I wish more girls shared your "if you do a good thing for me I'll return in 10-fold" ideology, but a lot don't. Luckily my ex-girlfriend was one of those and, even though she didn't play starcraft, she didn't give me a ton of crap when I'd hop on iccup while she did homework. Sometimes she'd finish homework, realize I was still playing, and sit on my lap or flash me to get my attention! She was definitely a keeper (too bad it didn't work out...).

smix is another girl on the forum who's been translating alot of stuff for the community. when she made a blog she took a similar pic at like the same angle
edit: lol nvm wasn't aware "george" found this thread. it would be an awkward question
Haha I have a feeling you, like a lot of other people, were about to ask me if we intended on being more than friends?
Sorry to disappoint and be anticlimactic once again, but no. I titled the blog so, because there really is a lot of love between us. But it's all purely platonic. I treat him like a little douchebag brother. He, along with all of my other gamer friends, treat me just like one of the guys. Tehehe. I just realized how cliche that sounds.
But I'm glad to hear that there are others who are just as grateful for Blizzard as me ^^... except for the whole grade dropping thing. I sympathize )=
