Get a very famous individual interested or involved in ESports. I'm talking Hollywood famous. This is the fastest way to expose a large number of people to the concept of competitive gaming on a large scale. This growing interest will in turn attract bigger sponsors. Which will inevitably cause ESports to grow.
The alternative would be for someone who is already involved or interested in ESports to take special measures to expand its audience. This means that people that are already interested in ESports and possess substantial assets or social clout should take measures to expose the scene to the general public.
I would love to see the day the likes of Michael Cera or Shia LeBeouf promote ESports or even just express interest in the scene in a passing comment on a talk show.
Yes, it's far-fetched. No, it probably will never happen. But I was thinking about how anything gets exposed to people very quickly and I realized it is always a television personality, a news report, or it is spread virally through the internet via popular websites.
Just a random thought.
EDIT: Hell, we should do our part: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=173711

Hm, that might work, but LET'S DO BOLLYWOOD :D I really really want to hear some Hindi commentators now :3

eSport is growing faster than we can imagine and i would be scared if it will grow even faster. just give it a time. And there is a lot of celebrities playing WoW. i know WoW is not eSport BUT ! famous ppl are playing it. I cant remember who told it but i saw some videos about it. I had Daniel Redcliff in my guild back than, well not for sure but he sounds like him SO MUCH.

@seRapH plus we could have a tastetosis, day9, husky, teamliquid etc... Bollywood dance number!
@NIINO WoW can be an E-Sport but I know what you mean most of the celebrities who play it don't play competitively

I think esports is about as big as it is going to get, (at least in the near future, I think it will definitely continue to grow over time) and I'm ok with that. The people that would be brought to esports by some star mentioning it would be a flash in the pan, and we might retain a small number of them before the next big thing took away the rest of their attention.

Start calling progamers by their real names like the Koreans do. That is how to expand and help eSports gain acceptance as a viable sport and career choice.

Well I'm glad you think it's going to grow over time, but there's no system in place which allows for easy access and causal exposure on a massive scale. That is the ideal place to be in for any product in my opinion. I'm just trying to consider the best way to get there for competitive Starcraft. Also, I think you're right about the kind of audience that would be attracted by a star's casual mention of ESports. What I really had in mind was for some figure who already has access to the general public to actively promote ESports.

If we call all the koreans by their name as opposed to ID, I would never be able to keep track as to who is who.

This is one of the biggest and easiest steps we can take! I have been supporting this opinion like forever! Please all bigger new portals, stop writing just their nicknames, if you have to, write their nicknames between " ", but first and foremost state their real names!

Big potential in Mila Kunis for celebs who used to play WoW.

How would that change anything?? Most people here can't pronounce the names correctly. How does that make it more legitimate or anything
