Hey guys, it's been a really long time since I've been on this site. I miss when I used to go on TL about 50 times a day and watching the latest games but college sort of changed that.
But what I wanted to talk about was that I am going to NYC for 4 days and three nights, some friends and I are staying in Chinatown but we are probably going to look around. I am bringing about $280, do you all think that is enough? And what are some recommendations, I always hear friends telling me to go eat eat eat eat eat but I also want to go shopping a bit.
And any advice on buying stuff in Chinatown, or should I not buy anything there because everythings fake? Thanks guys!

Shopping? For what?
It's not like chinatown has much cool merchandise. It's all shitty little toys or fake shit (which is totally still usuable), but really, chinatown is all about the food.

Chinatowns are great, makes me feel I'm back in China, in some small fishing town, and back 100 years.
It seriously felt just like that.

Sometimes the stuff is so fake that they are funny. I had a north face jacket that said north faith. It lasted a pretty long time and i kept getting asked about the jacket too.

$ is enough for food and to go out drinking, etc. Depending on what you want to go shopping for, may need more for that. Don't think there's much shopping to do in Chinatown, but if you're looking for good deals on designer clothes and such, Century 21 downtown (across from WTC) is pretty close to china town.

The large section of bootleg stores are on Canal Street, but there isnt that much to do there except for eating. If you want to go shopping thats on Broadway... Up and down SoHo.
Dont forgot to eat the little egg-cakes from the street vendors! They are a great sweet treat!
edit: The egg-cakes are like the size of melon balls or something along those lines, it should be easy to spot the vendors.

Yeah man... Flushing has amazing food. I go there whenever I can, which is not often enough.

Flushing, Queens. That is the place to be.

Whenever I go to Manhattan, I go to New York Noodletown http://www.yelp.com/biz/great-ny-noodle-town-new-york
The roast pork or roast duck on rice are both excellent. Also, if they have soft shell crab, get it! It was a totally new experience for me, and thoroughly delicious.

I live about 2 miles from chinatown in brooklyn.. There are some awesome eats all over the place in nyc. the best rule of thumb is to go for the hole in the wall restaurant that looks like its been there for years. if you go to a franchise you will get franchise food.
Actually there are some ridiculous restaurants in Brooklyn as well. It all just depends. What kind of stuff do you have planned?

Ok thanks guys for suggestions and advice!!

$280 is definitely enough for dining and some fun things(karaoke & lan(very very small & are fps focused)) Booking a hotel room can be expensive.

Manhattan Chinatown food is cheaper and better than Flushing food, unless you want Korean bbq.

K-town near Herald Square, like $25 for a plate of meat and sides? You probably pay $75 to feed 4-5 people.

Flushing is known for Taiwanese food - if you want Cantonese, Szechuan, Hunan etc. stick with Chinatown
